A new OS with a new experience.

Pros: a bold new os that unites desktop pc with mobile, goes beyond keyboard/mouse input, storage spaces a leap in data management, welcome to our connected world
Cons: user will have a learning curve., deeper dive required for some features., many drivers and applications must be updated.
"I built a new PC in October that is capable of supporting 13 HDDs with the purpose of waiting for Windows 8 which removes limitations of supporting HDDs known as Storage Spaces. Original build was running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit. My PC build included a motherboard that was already Windows 8 Certified. To make your transition to Windows 8 as smooth as possible, please run the Microsoft upgrade assistance first which can be located in the Microsoft Windows 8 website. My brand new PC build resulted in several requirements to remove some drivers and software that were not compatible. Also, I highly recommend reviewing all device drivers and applications for updates that are available for both Windows 7 & 8 before upgrading. If the driver or application update was compatible with both Windows 7 & 8, I loaded the updates before proceeding to Windows 8. If the update is only compatible with Windows 8, I loaded on USB memory drive and downloaded the updates after installing Windows 8. A visit to my motherboard manufacturer’s website resulted in finding all the driver/application updates that were required.
I purchased 3 hard copies of Windows 8 Pro and performed a flawless transition on the new PC. I also downloaded the Windows Media Center Pack from Microsoft. Windows 8 does represent a totally different user experience that is best with a touch capable monitor or the new Windows 8 touch mouse that is just now coming onto the market. Old fashion keyboard/mouse operations can be easily learned from the Microsoft website that gives details how to duplicate keyboard/mouse functions. This is a wonderful forward step for Windows that begins to build one platform for all types of devices. Once you become familiar with Windows 8, you will be very pleased.

windows 8 = non-productivity

"Steep learning curve to learn a new UI. If you spend more time downloading groovy, colorful apps, yakking with your friends, AND have a touch screen, Win 8 is for you. But don't you already have this functionality with your phone? However, if you use your computer as a productivity tool; if you work in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, video editing, programming, gaming, etc., than Win 8 is NOT for you. It is non-productive, non-intuitive and involves large movements with your mouse and many more clicking steps, potentially resulting in carpal tunnel. Win 7 gets you to the same place with fewer clicks. Microsoft has taken more control of your computer leaving you with less control of your computer, and MS will not allow you to downgrade to Win 7 unless you are a business enterprise. Microsoft is more intent on preserving market share instead of providing a genuinely usable and productive product. They are pushing app based products to increase their revenue stream plain and simple, which does nothing to improve on customer/consumer productivity. There is a reason Microsoft is pushing this product at a discounted upgrade price. Don't believe the hype."

quite a change from Windows 7

Pros: easy installation., has drivers for newest hardware.
Cons: learning curve on interface.
"Whereas Windows 7 did not recognize some of my computer hardware (was forced to go to vendor for newest hardware drivers), Windows 8 installed just fine. Possibly I made it easier by first installing Windows 7 on a new hard disk, then immediately upgraded to Windows 8 Pro. Hence no pollution by virus protection and other software glitches inherited from all my Windows 7 applications.
I think I will like the Windows 8 interface, but prepare yourself for a new world. It seems to be mostly oriented toward touch screens. I don't yet understand the virtues for a mouse driven system."

Windows 8 PRO from Windows 7

Pros: nice box
Model Number: Window 8 Pro
"Don't bother trying this upgrade yet. I have a an 18 month old computer that fails to make the conversion. It loads from the disc, reboots then comes up with a message that the "install failed." Numerous other complaints online about this. >>> and yes I turned off my firewall and virus software.
...I understand that it may be possible to do a clean install ; and then manually install your files. I'll wait another few days before returning this disc to continue my research. LOL

Windows 8 is a great OS but not perfect

Pros: fast and stable
Cons: exclusively graphical tablet like start menu
"Windows 8 is indeed faster booting up than Windows 7 Professional, which is what I upgraded from. Microsofts big mistake is thinking that the whole world uses tablets and orienting this operating system to a tablet like Menu on a laptop. It did not give me access to all my installed programs. So I found a free hack that gave me back the Windows 7 start menu with the option of an XP start menu also. Now I would not hesitate recommending this new OS from Microsoft."

Windows 8 Pro

Pros: all my programs worked after installation!
Cons: had to reinstall the wireless printer driver.
"This is the first Windows OS that I've purchased that was NOT an absolute hassle installing and getting your old programs to work. I installed over a Windows 7 OS so maybe that had something to do with the ease of the transition. My old programs worked beautifully. The only thing I had to reinstall was the driver for the wireless printer."

Basically fun to use

Pros: outstanding software & hardware compatibility, multiple choices for accomplishing something, works as well with a mouse as with touch, tiles launch apps and convey information, mostly fun and involving to use, apps crash cleanly leaving os just fine, start screen internet explorer is a good design
Cons: windows 8 store apps still primitive and crash, start screen internet explorer fails on some sites, tiles used only as launchers take up too much room
"Windows 8 is an excellent start of something new. Except when Windows 8 Store apps crash, I really enjoy using the OS. At least the apps crash cleanly and the OS still works fine. It is as easy to use on my desktop with a mouse as it is on my tablet using touch. Every legacy program and device I have tried works perfectly."

Best Windows ever!

Pros: easy to learn, boots up fast, great added service for music, cloud storage with live, if you have a touch screen it gets even better!
Cons: internet explorer 10 is still inferior to chrome, it is different and new that is scary to some.
Model Number: 704941
"This windows does what so many users do, put everything on the desktop. But instead of a Desktop you have a Start screen with live tiles. Yes it is different, yes it is new. But, five minutes and your over the curve. 10 minutes and you have a custom screen that reflects what you do!"

Windows 8 A breeze

Pros: quick and simple
Cons: something to get used to
"Heard how bad 8 was supposed to be for desktop users. Not only was it a quick 20 minute install, the new interface is a breeze to navigate. 2 thumbs up!"

Pros: excellent price considering the cost of previous, versions and upgrades
Cons: only works with windows 7 or higher version, had to remove several key features before install
Model Number: Microsoft Windows 8 Pro
"Windows 8 was difficult to install and had to remove several key features like Webcamera, and fingerprint signature before it would install."
