Good computer except for noise!

Pros: good price, nice features
Cons: noise!
Model Number: Dell Inspiron 660
" Do not buy this computer if you want one that is silent. (I know they exist.) I've had several Dell Inspiron 660 Desktops in the last six months. To make this review relatively short, I will only address the last two, both with noise issues. After a Dell technician replaced the power supply, two fans, and the DVD drive (in two visits), on the first computer, the CPU still made a noise. Dell sent a new CPU which also makes a noise. After running the thorough diagnostics test on both PCs, computer #1 had a code which meant that the hard drive needed to be replaced. That CPU has been returned to Dell. The diagnostics test, which is supposed to take 30 minutes to run, takes 4-5 hours on computer #2, but the results indicated all tests were passed. However, it concerns me that it takes such an excessively long time to run this test. But my biggest complaint is noise. It makes a noise when turned on (I'm told this is normal although my old PC is totally quiet). I can live with this initial noise, but the replacement CPU made a gurgling sound half the time. After replacing the power supply and a fan, this improved but is not totally gone. It's not all of the time which makes trouble shooting difficult. When it's not gurgling, it's great, but when it does, it's distracting. I don't know whether to keep it or not. I've spent many hours on this problem over the phone and with the technicians trying to get this resolved.
If I only rated Dell customer service, I'd rate them 5 stars (until a week ago). The case manager indicated that he'd work with me until this was resolved to my satisfaction. However, it appears even customer service has given up, as I have not heard from them (despite leaving two messages) for over a week. I just want to know if they intend to make this computer right. If not, I need to make a decision regarding returning it to Costco before the 90-day deadline. It's really a nice computer for the price. I don't think that a user should have this much difficulty with a brand new computer. I had a Dell with Windows XP for seven years that ran perfectly. I'd just like the same experience now. "

Pros: fast, sleek, great value
Cons: none
" I mentioned Costco because I think the system comes with more options and software through Costco and for a better price than through Dell, even though the majority of reviews on here are from Dell. **One note: I just realized that this package is a little different than the one I purchased, which is not listed on anymore. My system was $100 cheaper, but came with a 23" monitor, and only 1TB harddrive, everything else is identical**
We purchased this system mostly because we needed more computing power and hard drive space to keep up with home videos. We also do a little bit of graphic design, and music editing. We have had the system for about 3 months now, and haven't had any problems. The CPU is fast, the memory is more than adequate, and it seems to be performing properly. Windows 8 does take some time to get used to. I would consider myself a pretty tech savvy person, and Windows 8 had me scratching my head for a few minutes. It does have a "Training Video" to help you learn the basics. And word on the street is Microsoft is updating to Windows 8.1 later this year which among other things will bring the "Start" button back, and it will be a free update for all Windows 8 owners.
Overall, I would highly recommend the system. Apparently Desktop PCs are on the way out, but I prefer the comfort of a full keyboard, large screen, and easy upgradability. Case is sleek looking, USB speakers are adequate for watching internet video.
The wireless internet works great. I originally had it plugged directly into my router for optimal speed, but later found out that it was just as fast over the built-in wireless connection.

Dissappointed in DELL

Pros: costco's 90 day refund policy
Model Number: Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop with Intel® Core™ i5-3330 3.0 GHz
" As a repeat Dell customer I purchased this desktop recently (Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop with Intel® Core™ i5-3330 3.0 GHz). Unfortunately, as with many of the other reviews all was "ok" with setup, but within days started to have many problems...spent 1.5 hrs. on the phone with Dell tech (25 min. on hold)...had to schedule a Dell tech to come to the house 2 days later. After 2 hrs. of him doing his thing & he also had to call the DELL help service himself (also put on hold over 1/2 hr.)...he couldn't fix the same sort of problems others have mentioned. I returned product back to Costco. "
