Pros: fast, solid, great value, lighted keyboard, much better sound quality than my last laptop
Cons: none so far. adjustment to windows 8
Model Number: Lenovo U510
"I am very happy so far with the computer. It is fast smooth and I really like the lighted keyboard. I am getting used to Windows 8 over time and in general I am very pleased with the performance. Windows 8 is much better than Vista. I still love XP, old habits... I have been able to easily network my two XP machines to this laptop as well as my printer."
Pros: speed, backlit keyboard, screen, sound (decent but no laptop has great sound), sleek and thin construction, distance between keys, features vs. price
Cons: win 8
"I have had this laptop for about 6 weeks now...
Everything everyone says as far as style and looks I agree with - GREAT. Plusses include speed (the small SSD over the top of the large HD seems to make a big difference), backlit keyboard, nice and bright resolution, sound (when compared to other laptops I tried, but keep in mind they're all tinny), sleek and thin construction and looks. The keyboard keys are nice and far apart. The keyboard has a bit of flex to it, but nothing problematic. I have had no issues with the mouse like the others seem to here, other than in combo with WIN8, it's really touchy and I haven't been able to figure out all the "finger commands." But I suspect it's more WIN8 than the laptop.
FYI - for anyone who has had a Lenovo ThinkPad - while this seems pretty well constructed, it's not built as rugged as a ThinkPad , but it's also not ThinkPad priced. It is still, IMO, way better built than other comparable laptops out there in this price range.
Folks, if you are a business and internet user and the older WIN products are familiar to you, let me tell you - WIN8 just plain sucks. I am told it is much better with a touchscreen. Maybe so, but how many touchscreen laptops are available out there for a reasonable price? Moreover, I can no longer find a WIN7 option on new laptops. I therefore use a USB mouse, which is better at controlling WIN8, but still not great. I'm waiting for the day Microsoft wakes up and realizes they have a dog in WIN8 and fix it - much like when they went from Vista to XP.
So I would recommend this when considering price/features, construction, looks and what else is available out there. Besides, the Costco return policy makes this decision a heck of a lot easier because you have the option to buy this and return it within a reasonable time if it turns out not to be what you want."
Model Number: Lenovo IdeaPad U510 Ultrabook, Intel® Core i5-3337U 1.8GHz
"I am happy with the computer, but do wish that I could have ordered it to be delivered to the store. I also wish that I could have customized it and not purchased it with the virus software it came with."
Cons: dificulty controlling the mouse, windows 8...so frustrating!
Model Number: Lenovo IdeaPad U510 Ultrabook
"I should have paid attention to the negative comments about this computer. I, too, had mouse problems: left and mouse clicks did not work. Costco replaced the computer, and this one seems okay. I still struggle with the mouse, i.e., sliding along lower edge to return to previous screen."
Beware Touchpad Issue with U510 - Chk Lenovo Forum
Pros: irristably sleek and beautiful
Cons: sheer misery with uncontrollable touchpad
Model Number: U510
"It seemed to good to be true...a Lenovo with outstanding specs for the price. My previous 2 laptops were Lenovo and I was always thrilled.
This machine is a beautiful devil. Gorgeous finish, great layout, but the touchpad is simply uncontrollable, and unfortunately Lenovo techs in their support have not read their own forum and are not aware that this is a "known issue."
Check the Lenovo Customer Forum before moving forward. As much as I regret it, looks like I'm going to return this one."
"Ordered this laptop on 24th, received it on 27th. Spent the whole night trying to connect to wireless network, but failed. Called Lenovo support, they remote logged in but could not get the issue resolved.
Wireless connection to any b/g/n network had a range limited to the room where the router is located. Was forced to return the laptop the next weekend.
Thanks Costco for the worry free shopping, but really disappointed with the concierge services and the product quality."
"Nice looking unit, but looks don't help a computer function. Wifi rarely connects, or when it does it is intermittent. The unit is very slow, and on the third day of use, the system crashed and never powered up again. The machine I received was a complete piece of garbage, I should have took heed to the reviews I read on this site and Lenovo's own web site. However, due to Costco's great return policy I took a chance and found out for myself that the reviews were accurate. Upon returning it, the Costco rep said alot of the Lenovo Ultrabooks have been returned because customers have not been satisfied with the product for one reason or another. Don't waste your time and money on this unit."
