Satisfactory, could be better.

Pros: good manufature's warranty, good sound
Cons: windows 8, backlit keyboard is not automatic, low contrast unimpressive display / screen, does not seem like 900p, 5 minutes to boot. 15-20 min boot for updates
Model Number: HP ENVY dv7-7323CL
"Wanted to buy a laptop with a big screen and back-lit keyboard. Apart from having Windows 8 instead of Windows 7, this had pretty much our minimum requirements. Needless to say... We find Windows 8 to be very very very very inconvenient.
Airplane mode will properly disable WIFI. However when you turn Airplane mode off, WIFI does not get enabled by default.
Also, I wish the display was a lot better though. Only seems to have a good picture in a very very dark room. Even then, black does not look black. When using a bright background or word processing or view a website with a white background it's not pleasing to the eyes. You can reduce brightness but then white turns to grey and contracts becomes worse.
The backlit keyboard is not automatic; you need to strike a key to enable it and it will stay on even if it's day-time and bright outside."

Love It!!!!

Pros: sound quality quad speakers w/subwoofer, solid case, nice display, wonderful keyboard, lots of ram, finger print reader, beats audio
Cons: power cord
"I almost didn't buy this computer after reading the reviews, but I'm so glad I did anyway. I love it.
It has an internal sound system that is amazing for a laptop--quad speakers and a subwoofer. I use it with a USB mixer and mic system to record voice--it worked awesome right out of the box. I love the Beats system.
The computer's decked out with 8 gigs of RAM--Windows 8--and enough storage for me. (I back everything up with an external drive, so I don't need as much storage on board.)
The display is beautiful and works well in the daylight. I have an office with huge windows and it doesn't diminish the quality at all.
The case is top quality and feels solid, but light. The keyboard is recessed with a nice plate to keep too much lint, dust and hair from falling in. The keyboard also feels good under the fingers. The internal mouse works like all internal mice.
The computer isn't heating up at all, it has that special cooling system, which seems to be working great!!, but the power cord feels a little warm....not sure why...and it's one that sticks directly out, rather than "T" shape, which I'd prefer, but these are minor things. Just be careful not to bump it a lot.
So far this computer is wonderful. I've used it nonstop for the last two days and loaded all my productivity software and haven't had a single glitch. All the RAM is keeping it running fast. For the price, I really can't imagine being more happy."

Near Perfect Except for...

Pros: backlit keyboard, intel processor, beats audio, screen size, keyboard size and layout
Cons: touchpad buttons do not work, windows 8 interface
Model Number: HP ENVY dv7-7323CL
"I was very excited to see this machine for and on sale at my local store. It had all of the specifications I have been looking for:
Backlit Keyboard
Multicore processor by Intel
Expandable memory
Beats Audio
After a couple of days of installing MS Office, Adobe CS6, Corel Suite, and Visual Studio 2012, I was quite disappointed with two things: Windows 8 (ARGH!!!) and the touchpad buttons. It has been nearly impossible to left click or invoke anything with the touchpad buttons. My only solution is to purchase a mouse or external touchpad. Why should I have to do that with a new monster of a machine? I thought it was a configuration issue with the driver. No such luck because there is no way to reconfigure the touchpad. The driver app is not programmed to provide that type of support. Except for the all important ability to interface with the PC using the touchpad, this would be an amazing computer. However, I must return the system in hopes of it getting repaired in a timely manner. I hope they do not lose my software. As I am writing this review, I decide that I may have to call the software companies and request my licenses get released and uninstall everything before I ship it out. Another ARGH!"
