Good system for the price

Pros: nice complete kit and easy setup
Cons: tech support
Model Number: DVR16-3000
"I recently switched from the Lorex system due to the lack of true D1 recording. I will say this is a good system for the money, however there are a few items which I feel Swann was lacking. The ability to adjust the head assembly to get a straight image when having to install cameras in a tight location or brackets at an angle would have been nice. The camera's that come in this kit are only 65Ft night vision which means realistic quality around 45 ft. Swann Tech Support is friendly, however not very knowledgeable or considerate of customers network environment. Recently engaged their support for poor resolution on a couple of cameras. After working with support agent in the Philippines for over 30 minutes on a remote connection, he tried to convince me that the quality he has been trying to fix is expected and normal even though he admitted during the support that it looked very fuzzy and pixelated. Then all of a sudden, the Tech starts changing the IP addresses of the swann system and then on my router he starts making changes to port numbers and a few additional settings without my consent. There was no connectivity problems. After having to almost climb through the phone to get his attention and have him stop what he was doing, i asked what the heck he thought he was doing and he told me that Swann found the system worked best with this specific IP Address (not having a clue about my network and what I have connected or what security I have implemented) and that port numbers he was entering were better than what they recommend in the setup guide. When I questioned why, he had no explanation."

Nice picture but DVR falls short

Pros: good picture quality
Cons: terrible tech support, not able to remote into the dvr and make changes.
Model Number: 700 TVL
"I purchased the Swann DVR system because I wanted a new security system with more cameras and better resolution. I had a QSEE 8 channel system. I purchased it and started setting it up. I must say the picture quality was better than my old QSEE system but that was the only good thing about the system. I had some tech questions and the tech support was terrible. I think whomever I was speaking with was reading answers to what most likely matched my questions. I felt like they had no clue.
In my opinion the DVR fell way short of my expectations. I plugged the system into my network and then logged into it from my computer. It's always much easier to use a real keyboard to type in camera names like "back door" rather than using the mouse and an onscreen keyboard. The first thing I found was that the password can ONLY be numbers. No letters or special characters. That seemed lame. The next thing I found was that there are may features and functions that you cannot change remotely. I wanted to 'tuck' the DVR away in a closet and then be able to control it from my desk. Some things can be changed remotely but not everything! What, I have to hook a monitor up to the DVR in the closet and stand there in front of it making changes to its settings? That is crazy. The good thing was that I could box it back up and take it back to Costco. I did and purchased the Samsung security system that I am much happier with.

Well built - beware of support and compatibility!

Pros: great image, solid built cameras, 2tb hd (lot of rec space), fan cooled, easy nav menus, lots of setup options
Cons: no remote control included, no dvr management with osx mydvr software, osx software has an unfinished look, mobile app has no access to dvr recordings, fan is a bit noisy, not compatible with any wireless mouse, very green tech support staff
Model Number: Package: 700TVL (DVR Model# DVR16-3000)
"I have spent considerable time with this system and here is what I have learned!
The unit has great, well built cameras. The 2 domes are not PTZ cameras (i.e. they do not electronically pan, tilt or zoom). Also, the domes do have a halo in night mode as the IR leds reflect off the plastic cover. This "pro series" system comes with NO REMOTE control and customer support wanted to sell me one for $5 + $6.95 s/h.
The Mac OSX software (MyDVR) does not allow any remote access or management of the DVR and looks unfinished. The SwannView Pro mobile app only allows live view and recording on your device, but no access to search DVR files.
The DVR does not work with any wireless mouse (confirmed by Swann Tech Support), even though manual suggests using one. System also comes like a kit in a brown shipping box that contains several plain white boxes.
Other than the above issues, the system seems well built. Love the aluminum housings for the cameras - very solid! The DVR is large, but is fan cooled which tells me it has more of a pro duty cycle. The menus on the unit are easy to nav and setup and it has great options.
Tech Support Experience - ask all of your questions at once, as they always have to put you on long holds to find an answer. I could not talk to an actual technical person!"

Swann Best System for DYS

Pros: great price, excellent pitures., great warranty at costco
Cons: none so far
"Buy this system without hesitation. If you want a system that is going to work as advertised, this is the one. Customer service is outstanding. I only called once for a minor issue when I received the system and Andrew took time to answer all my questions. He even gave his extension # to reach him directly if needs be. I didn't have to call him back as everything works okay so far.
Setting up the unit could not be easier. The hardest part of it is running the cables. I bought couple 100ft QseeRg 59 siamese cable from Costco which work great. However, picture quality at 120 ft ,(combining 2 x 60 ft of cable provided by swann ),was as great as Q-See cable. It took my son less than 10 minutes to download swann view in my LG 4G smartphone & his Samsung Galaxy S4 to view live pictures from 7 cameras already installed.I am hoping swann or Costco will have a promotion on the Swann Pro-series 760 so I can buy 4 more to cover couple more blind spots.I strongly recommend this system to anyone who is shopping for a new system. Buy from Costco no one beats their price & warranty.

Excellent Video

Pros: cost, simple setup, impressive video quality
Model Number: Swann 16 channel D1 DVR
"I had this system installed by professional installers who at first said these kit security systems were a joke but he was impressed after the install. The video resolution is better than some of the so called pro grade cameras we have at other locations. We used an external power supply box as well as pro quality Siamese cable rather than the included cable. The DVR is simple to setup following the well written guide, the Apple and Android apps work great too as does viewing in a web page.
I've purchased several pro grade DVRs that can't do everything this Swann unit can. For the cost of one of those pro DVRs you get an entire system.

Lots of problems

Pros: price
Cons: everything else
Model Number: D1
"I have had this system installed for almost a year and it gets worse every month. One camera has failed and the DVR is terrible. I use this for a second home and the remote interface is poor. Can't even reset the system remotely which it needs constantly. recording stops after about a week and cant get it back until I am there to reboot. The Mac interface is virtually useless except for live viewing which I do on my phone. I have spent about 5 or 6 hours on the phone with Swann since installation. The pricing of theses is attractive but you are really buying junk."

Excellent value and good customer service,

Model Number: Swann 16 Channel D1 700TVL
"I bought this to secure my hotel and so far I couldn't be happier. Initial setup wasn't too bad, I ran into a few problems along the way but their tech support was always there willing to go the extra mile to help me solve my problems during setup. I can say that I have no regrets in choosing Swann for my hotel security"
