Ruined by Windows 8

Pros: good color
Cons: windows 8 made this machine totally unuseable., w8 does not support pop3 email accounts.
Model Number: HP ENVY 700xt desktop
"This was a good machine at a good price that was made totally unusable by Windows 8. W8 may be fine on a touch screen tablet but it is real garbage on a desktop machine with a mouse. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT !!!"

So Far So Good

"Product was very easy to set up out of the box. I connected 2 monitors and needed no card and computer recognized them immediately. Have had only one freeze requiring a reboot in the first 2 weeks. Pretty fast and durable."

Fast, Quiet, Upgradable

Pros: fast, easily upgradable
Cons: windows 8 has a learning curve
Model Number: HP Envy 700XT
"I wanted to get a desktop since I already have a laptop from work I can use for when I need a portable computer. It seems a lot of people now write off desktops in favor of laptops, but for the money you get a much faster computer with a larger screen for the same money. It's also far easier to upgrade to keep relevant for many years.
This HP Envy has excellent specs and is incredibly fast. Windows started up in about 10 seconds to the login screen, then another 10 to login to the home screen. The hard drive included with mine was a Seagate Baracuda 7200 rpm 1TB drive, overall a pretty decent HD to be included in a pre-made computer. I threw a Samsung SSD in and cloned the OS and program files to it. It's now ridiculously fast, about 3 seconds to login/home screen. Windows 8 has a learning curve to it, but overall I like the look, time will tell if I switch back to 7. 32gb of ram and a 4gb graphics card make this a pretty decent gaming/photo/video editing machine. Don't expect it to play Battlefield 4 on max settings though. If you want a true "gaming machine" you'll need to upgrade the power supply (only 300w included) and get a better graphics card and you'll be good to go.
The keyboard and included mouse are decent, and necessary for setup since windows won't recognize your wireless mouse/keyboard until it's setup. I'd invest another $30 and pick up a Logitech keyboard/mouse combo.
This computer ships from HP's factory in Mexico, I ordered it on a Sunday and it arrived the following Saturday. Not too bad on shipping, wish it was faster for the $30 shipping charge. The computer was packed nicely in a box, there was one small ding where the plastic was slightly dented on the computer case, you wouldn't see it unless you were looking for it though. Everything else was perfect.
I paired it with an 23" screen, personally I feel this is the best size if you have a single screen and sit about 2-3 feet from the monitor, anything bigger is hard to look at that close."
