Model Number: Toshiba Satellite S75 Laptop Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz
"I purchased this laptop from Costco last week (October 04, '13) because it has great specs for the price, but unfortunately the touchpad is faulty on this unit.
Other no-button touchpad laptops work fine but this laptop cannot distinguish between a button press and a cursor movement, and so, it is nearly impossible to manipulate anything requiring that you press and hold a mouse button whilst moving around the cursor.
Consequently, it is impossible to use this for business purposes if you are writing, highlighting text, moving around email windows and document windows, and other such things.
"What a super laptop! I have been using laptops for years and this one is terrific! It is loaded with features and power at a great price. My last 2 laptops had a problem with the touchpad and cursor having a mind of their own sometimes. Toshiba has solved this with the F5 key. By simply pressing F5, I can lock and unlock the touchpad. This is a marvelous feature if you are doing any lengthy writing. I was fortunate to have a computer savvy employee show me the F5 secret - otherwise, I would have been in the same shape as the other reviewer who were unable to use their computer because the touchpad was locked. To use the F5 button for other functions, press the Function key along with F5 (to refresh the screen)."
"I read the review of this product which indicated that the touch pad was bad on the laptop she/he purchased. I honestly thought, "So take it back and get one that's not defective. It IS Costco after all; they'll take care of it." After fighting with the one I just bought for 2 hours, I'm inclined to apologize to the previous reviewer. He/she is right. The touch pad is fracked. Not sure if I'm willing to try to let Costco remedy this, since it seems to be a wide spread issue."
"I purchased this product and could not get past the startup page due to the fact that the touch pad was inactive. I called Toshiba Tech support who had me go through a number of maneuvers including a complete reset of the computer (ie F12) which did not fix the issue."
"I'm new to the Windows 8 OS, so it took a few days to get used to the new screen. I wasn't going to buy the 17.3" notebook because the last one I had weighed about 9lbs. But after noticing that there was a huge discount on this laptop compared to its sister laptop, the 15.6in, it was a no-brainer. Look at the weight between the two. They are identical in performance, etc. The only difference is the screen size.
The speakers are awesome!
If you travel a lot, then perhaps the 17.3in screen is too much. But, if you just need a laptop that you move only occasionally, then this is the one, especially for the money.
A few things I would have liked would be a keyboard that stayed lit when plugged in, instead of lighting up after pressing the first key (I often can't see the first key, so I press the spacebar to get it to light up).
Also, a Blu-Ray player would have been great.
All-in-all, this is a good laptop in this price range. And I purchased the extended warranty for another 3 years. That puts a 5 year warranty on the laptop and covers it even if I drop it!"
