Not Costco Worthy

Pros: solid birch, sturdy frame
Cons: poor design, flimsy desktop, poor manufacturing, cheap plastics and accessories
Model Number: Item # 790356
"Let me preface this review by saying that the products that I buy from Costco I have come to expect to be of superior quality in terms of design, usability, durability and performance. In my opinion, this product fell short in several categories.
First things first: The frame and structure of the loft and media cart are solid. The birch has a good feel to it and just enough natural imperfections to make it look great. The color matches other birch furniture I have purchased elsewhere. Once assembled, there is no doubt that they will last.
This is how I found the product deficient:
1) Instructions are subpar. Being an engineer, I have assembled countless amounts of furniture for family and friends, and without a doubt these are the worst instructions I have ever come across. Diagrams are not to scale and the parts not labeled. In one case, a part that looks like a short board is actually a long board that looks twice as long in real life. It adds to build time while you figure things out.
2) Some Pilot Holes are misaligned. Pilot holes in several instances were not properly aligned and I had to re-drill them myself for the pieces to fit properly. This was observed on one of the legs of the loft bed assembly which was supposed to line up with the desk assembly for stacking, the media cart was misaligned in several places, as was the safety/ladder assembly. Additionally there were some holes that contained T-Nuts and these were not at the expected angle for alignment, and in two cases the top of the T-Nut was sheared off from the factory resulting in a cam screw being lower than what it was intended to be for proper assembly.
3) Desktop is flimsy. The desktop is composed of 2 pieces of composite wood held together by 3 “cam screws and locks” (which is a poor design for a load bearing surface). The locks are cast from a weak metal and I broke two of them during assembly using a hand held screw driver. I had to add a plank of hard wood underneath to brace the desk and remove the play at the inside corner of the desk that would likely be bearing the most amount of weight.
4) Plastics and accessories are cheap. The plastic on one of the wheels from media cart broke the first week. I’m not opposed to calling for a replacement piece, but in the end it’s just going to be replaced with another cheap wheel. I just took off all the wheels and called it a day.
5) The media cart drawers don’t have any drawer guides. You know when you open a drawer and it slides smoothly in and out of a dresser. Well that does not exist in the media cart. When you pull a drawer out of this cart, it just hangs there and teeters at an angle, almost threatening to fall out. It is held in by a weird latch on one side that looks as it was designed by an amateur carpenter. This does not convey quality.
All that being said, my son is very happy with this loft/desk which we made “cool” with fancy lights mounted under the bed. I, however, cannot in good conscience recommend this as a Costco worthy piece of furniture. I will not return this item, but next time I will probably purchase this type of furniture from a different manufacturer/designer (although still probably from Costco)."

Good Quality Product

"The quality of wood is good ,need two persons and almost 3 hours to assemble. It would be nice if there is numbers on each pieces which are also be shown in figures in manual accordingly. One most needed recommandation is that, as the underneath study desk is too short in height,it must required one custom sized foam or rubber stripe which can cover overhead wood, and kids would not hurt themself while trying to get out .Everything else was perfect and no one can compare costco's home delivery!"

Great product, but hard to make

Pros: sturdy, good amount of head room for desk area
Cons: difficult to make the bed, narrow ladder steps
"I bought two of these beds for my 7 & 4 yr old boys, as a space saver for their small rooms. The construction of the bed is SOLID! It will definitely last through years of use. The desk area is very spacious & the "clock" shelf is really nice to put a bottle of water on during the night.
I have 2 minor complaints. First the bed is difficult to make. I end up needing to have my husband help me put the mattress on the floor so I can change the sheets because even at 5'6" I can't reach to put put the bottom sheet on. Second the steps up the ladder are on the narrow edge of the wood so it hurt the boys feet when they climb up.
I think the beds are great and I think they are a great value for the price, other beds we looked at weren't as sturdy. I have recommended these beds to neighbors already.

Quality product, quality company

"This is a quality piece of furniture that has held up well to the rough housing of our son. One of the hinges did break on the media cart door, so I called Epoch to see if I could get a replacement and that is when I had one of my BEST customer service experiences ever. Don't hesitate - great product, great service!"

Awesome Bed

Pros: sturdy lasts for years!
"My husband and I bought 2 of these beds for our sons 5-6 years ago and they are awesome. The bed is sturdy, has plenty of storage, and will last as children grow up. It can also be taken apart to make a twin size bed if the loft is no longer wanted/needed. I would recommend this bed to anyone interested in a loft bed."

as advertised

"We purchased two of these for our 6 and 4 year old. They love them.
They arrived on time, Two large heavy boxes for each bed, Directions were good and clear, it took about 3 hrs. to make the first bed and 2 for the second. Using a screw gun with an allen wrench adapter. Every thing fit, the part kits were complete. (don't loose anything there are no extras) Had to de-burr a couple holes, much better than I could have hoped for.
They are well built and I expect them to survive at least into there teens.

Great Space Saver

Pros: very well constructed, ample desk space and storage
Cons: rails on ladder are narrow but manageable
"Purchased two of these loft beds for our pre-teen boys who share a "not-so-large" room. Each now has his own space, desk, and storage. The beds and media cart went together well and are constructed nicely. We had a bunk bed (also purchased from Costco) by the same manufacturer previously and it was still in great shape after 6 years. We looked long and hard before ordering this loft bed and we couldn't be happier! Shipping was quick and each bed came in two very heavy boxes. No parts missing or damaged. Bulletin board and peg board with racks, alarm clock tray and printer shelf are great bonuses too! Just an overall great product."

"My wife and I shopped local furniture retail outlets for similar items. This product is solid, easy to assemble, and at a great price compared to what we found elsewhere."
