Love it!

"I was condisering getting a sun-setter but to save some money I went with this and I am loving it! If you're trying to shade a large space - this will not do it... but for just me - in the middle of the day when the sun is at it's worst on my deck - this is perfect and I love how I can roll it around to move it wherever I want shade. It could probably shade one or two people max. I guess you could cram more people under the shade - but comfortably it can shade two people. I filled each canister with a 40 pound bag of gravel and topped each canister off with water. If you have high winds like we can get in PA - this won't go anywhere (unlike some of the cheaper models you would find at home improvement stores with the same amount of umbrella coverage). It would take a lot to knock this over! I've only had it up for a day - some of the other comments mention rusting after a year on the metal portions... I will have to wait and see on that. So far - great purchase without spending an arm and a leg. I am very happy to be - under my um-brella ella ella eh eh eh! :)"

Excellent, but couple of improvements would help

Pros: fair price sturdy construction easy adjustments
Cons: too small wheels flimsy base cover
"This came in two separate boxes, one for the base and the other for the umbrella. The instruction sheet had both pictures and text, so it was not at all difficult to assemble. Except, it was really tricky, even with two people, to get the umbrella to slide on to the base.
We love how easy it is to adjust, open and close. The retractable wheels are a great idea. However, our patio has foot-square tiles, and it is a little difficult to wheel these over the grout cracks. Larger wheels would be a big improvement.
We filled the containers with water, so the base is really heavy, and am sure it will stand up under strong winds.
The plastic cover for the base is pretty flimsy. My wife has to stand on it to adjust the top angle, and I feel it may crack after a while. Should be much stronger.
The crank provided is much more sturdy than the one shown in the pictures. We keep it in the base when not using, to prevent sand and dust from getting in the socket. I went to their accessories page to see about buying an extra one to keep on the pole. The cost for one is $36! We will use just one.
It would also be a big improvement to have the metal pole some lighter color, as the black makes it extremely hot in the sun.
All in all, we love this thing for the large size of the canopy and the easy angle adjustments.
The shade it provides makes a big difference here in the Arizona desert heat."

great umbrella

Pros: size and mobility
Cons: rust and plastic base starting to crack
Model Number: Portofino Signature Resort Umbrella #175290
"Like the gentleman from the March review I have also had a concern about the base crank area rusting. I find I can use steel wool and a little wd40 to remove it but I don't think for this price it should rust to begin with. Also after just 6 months the plastic cover over the base is starting to crack. Other than these problems I think this is a great umbrella and love that it can be moved around so easily."

Great umbrella - minor issues after 1 year

Pros: easy to adjust and move as needed.
Cons: rust of the base crank adjustment.
"Overall, this is a great umbrella that provides a significant amount of shade, is easy to move and adjust, and has replaced our need for a back patio cover.
It was easy to set up and both my wife and I are able to easily raise and lower the base, adjust the angle of the umbrella or move it across the patio.
The downside is the adjustment of the base - the crank configuration (in the base) immediately started rusting. It still works fine, but it is a concern that it could be an issue later.
Overall I recommend this umbrella as it seems well built and works great after a year."

Great Umbrella!

"Easy to install and looks great! Had to call manufacturing company for question and they were very responsive. FYI: For vertically challenged individuals, be sure to remove packaging material from inside the umbrella before inserting in pole!"

awesome... almost tooo easy to use

"Not only does a six year old operate these umbrellas, he pretty much put them together upon arrival. Four screws, and some water. Simple....Just had to have the twelve year old help lift them high enough to set into base. For they are heavy, well built and perfect in color, not too light, or dark. Couldn't be more please overall."

Execellent Umbrella

"This is a well built umbrella. Easy to assemble. Easy to use. Very sturdy. Used clay cat litter for base and has been fine in light to moderate breezes. We liked it so much that we have purchased a 2nd one for our backyard area"

Great Umbrella

"Purchased this umbrella after a bit of research and am very happy I did so. Delivery was exceptionally fast, ordered on a thursday and received on the following tuesday! The umbrella is huge! Very nice coverage, and the retractable wheels really make this umbrella unbeatable. Very Stable in the wind as well. Used sand and water in the base and it seems to be holding very well."

Great so far

Pros: easy to assemble, easy to operate
"The assembly was very easy. The only hard part was the lack of useful directions (though, not really needed.. it's pretty obvious). It came with two major parts, and a packet of bolts. It is a bit difficult to place the 8' tall umbrella onto the stand just because of its sheer height, but once that's done.. it's assembled. The cranking, rotation, and tilting of the umbrella is remarkably easy. I was afraid I would not be able to do it since I am short and weak, no problem. I've only had it a week, so far, so good. I get a little nervous with the wind coming by as not all the metal and plastic parts seem like it will last the test of time, but you never know. So far, it's great."

Big and substantial

Pros: big, substantial, heavy
Cons: expensive
"Nice, big umbrella can shade huge area. Includes umbrella cover at no extra charge. Under the base cover there are 4 large plastic containers that need to be filled with rocks or water to weight the base. I bought 4 bags of pea gravel at the big home store nearby. Each bag contained 0.5 cubic feet of pea gravel and 1 bag fit in each bin very nicely. Assembly was quite easy, but it does take 2 people to get the umbrella portion up into place on the base. The crank works easily and it can be moved around on my deck pretty easily, tho it is HEAVY! This thing is not going to blow over, though we still close it if we are not home or at night. Came quickly. Delivery people contracted by Costco were cooperative and agreed to work around my schedule and even carried it into my back year. Only minor issue is the hole for the crank in the base cover to raise and lower the wheels doesn't line up right with the crank connector underneath. I can still get it in, but it is a little off. Expensive but worth it so far. Now will have to see how long the fabric lasts in this climate."

I love it!!!

Pros: easy to operate
Cons: one handle for 3 functions
"I was worried I wouldn't be able to turn the handle because I have arthritis bad, the handle is used for 3 different uses, 360 degree turn, umbrella direction, and turning the wheels on the base so you can move it around. I am able to do it all, thankfully. I love the cover that comes with it also. Overall, very happy."

Good Quality Umbrella, but .......

Pros: very stable in windy conditions., set up is easy., easy to deploy the canopy., new rotation function works well.
Cons: increased price in a bad economy.., evidence of economy engineering.
"Last year I bought one of these from Costco and liked it so much that I ordered another this season.
While the new one is of good quality and functions well, it has scaled down support parts and cheaper made canopy. In addition, this year's model was $100.00 more.
Some specifics: Canopy on last year's model has zippers on all of the edge supports. The new one does not. This year's model has a much smaller diameter support arm to the canopy, making me wonder how it will hold up under the big sudden wind gusts we get at our location."

great product

Pros: sturdy, easy setup, easy to adjust, large shade area
"Well made. Sturdy, easy to use. Easy to assemble. Clever mechanism allows the umbrella base to be moved easily, the entire umbrella is also easy to tilt or rotate, in spite of its impressive size and weight. It looks like it should last for years."

Exactly as advertised

Pros: easy to use, easy to move and store
Cons: price scared me a little but still bought it
Model Number: OP-MKT10-PORII-2
"This umbrella was easy to assemble (except for packing the 200 lbs. of sand it took to fill the base). It is easy to operate and the flexible settings give us the coverage we need for our southern exposure patio. It has been exposed to some moderate wind gusts and handles that welll. It is also easy to move with the adjustable casters. Very pleased with it."

Well made

Cons: you've got to be willing to pay the price
"We've had this umbrella for two years now. We filled the base with gravel and blowing over doesn't seem to be a possibility. Moving it also doesn't seem like an option, for what it is worth, but you don't have to fill it as thoroughly as we did. (We do put the umbrella down at night and when it is windy, though.) Easy to put up and down, and positively simple to adjust the angle of the umbrella or to rotate it to shade a new spot. Fabric has held up well for two years and counting."

A great patio umbrella

Pros: maneuverability
Model Number: Item # 175290
"This umbrella is great in the full sense of the word. Great for size (a 10ft square will cover a minimum of 100 sq-ft, and more depending on its inclination relative to the sun rays). Great for features (360 deg rotation capability, by means of hand crank, and 5-position of the deployed umbrella). Great for stability, given the large base whose four chambers can be filled with water, sand or gravel. I have used water. However, given the large surface of the umbrella, it is prudent to close it when not in use, since a sudden wind gust can easily overturn it. One can not expect it to be stable in the presence of winds stronger than normal breeze."

Lots of shade! Easy to adjust!

"This umbrella provides a LOT of shade and is super easy to setup and adjust once in place. I LOVE the fact the base can be weighted down, yet easily move around thanks to the retractable wheels under the base. We can now enjoy our backyard in the late afternoon. - A great buy!"
