You get what you pay for

Pros: price
Cons: weak bolts, drawers do not open and close smoothly
Model Number: Excel CO-TB2080AB
"I purchased this tool chest combo based on many good reviews here. But it is made cheaply in China. The bolts that secure wheels broke off in the middle of tightening. They seem to be made of some kind of metal that is soft. I had to buy broken bolt removal tool to remove them. In addition, I had to buy stronger metal screws to replace them all.
Also, the roller drawers do not move, open, and close smoothly.
Overall, I am disappointed and would not recommend to others."

Great Toolbox

Pros: tons of space for my tools, setup is a snap, drawers slide nicely
Cons: no mat for the top shelf
"I've had this toolbox about a week and loaded it. Great box, drawers slide nicely. Only a couple things: The top shelf does not include a mat for the base. I'm going to buy one. The only other thing is that the chest is dark black, not the grey that's pictured. Two very small things - overall I'm very happy with the storage ability and quality of this box. By the way, I recieved this in 2 days."

Good quality tool storage

Pros: sturdy good quality.
Cons: none
"I was shopping around for a nice roller tool cabinet and looked at the normal retailer brands. For ball bearing units, this one is a no brainer. You can get a cheaper unit at some of the retailers but not ball bearing and the quality isn't as good. This tool chest is solidly built, and I am not having any of the issues mentioned in other reviews (sticking drawers, hard to lock etc) My top and bottom unit locks even use the same key (not sure if that is a coincidence or Excel doing something about customer compliants).
My only complaint is that it took Costco over a month to get this thing to me, and when it finally arrived it was slightly dented on the top. I straightened it out enough to not be noticeable and haven't thought about it since.
I'm considering buying a 2nd unit now that I've filled up my first one already."

Functions okay, aesthetics need work

"It is very difficult to lock. Must firmly push in each and every drawer, firmly enough to rock the entire unit. Also difficult to open after it has been locked, then unlocked. The main reason I bought the unit was the locking feature, and it is so difficult to work with it is discouraging. Locking and unlocking should not have to be a big project.
I put the entire tool box unit in the closet in the master bedroom. It smells strongly like a machine shop. Not at all pleasant.
Also, a color selection would have been nice. Not all toolboxes go in the garage. Not everyone who purchases a tool box wants boring black.
I did not need the caster wheels or the attachable pull bar as it is in the closet and I don't plan to move it around. Would have preferred better quality construction than the heavy duty casters.
Two of the drawers on the large bottom unit would not stay on track. Nicely constructed on ball bearings to slide easily, the clamping portion of the track bracket was too wide and the entire drawer came away from the tracks when opened. Had to struggle a long time to get the drawers back onto the track, hold the track and bracket tightly together, then clamp down as hard as I could with channel locks to reduce the opening distance so that the brackets gripped the drawer adequately.
The top surface of the large bottom unit appears to be damaged where it joined the front left and right corners. A kind of hesitant slope instead of squared right angles. That may be just the way it is designed, but it seems haphazard, the slope serves no purpose, and it looks sloppy.
The rubber mat that covers that surface of the larger bottom unit is nice. The liners for the other drawers were black cardboard rather than a rubber mat, which would have been much more durable without adding too much to the cost.
The small black plastic end caps on the right and left of each drawer fell off easily. I will have to glue each one individually to make them stay put.
Lots of storage space, and nicely varied dimensions on the drawers. When aligned properly, they slide open and closed well, and allow a full view of the interior of each drawer for instant visual inventory. A slick way of identifying what is inside would be nice -- just a simple bracket that could hold a small paper tab on which the contents could be written by the owner.
Difficult to completely remove the drawers. The unit is very heavy and it was a real struggle to get the thing into the closet since I was unable to remove the drawers.
Overall, just way more work than a tool box should be. Not easy or convenient to use. Some thought to stylish design would greatly improve the quality of this product."

Best Tool Chest Period

Pros: it's a really well built tool chest!
"I spent about three weeks searching for a tool chest both online and from other sources. This is by far the best rated and the "Best Bang For Your Buck" tool chest .My final and most important purchasing factor always is...if I don't like it ,I can always take it back and Costco won't hassle me about it! The best part was that It was delivered in TWO days! You can't get better service than that, without having to pay a premium!"

gift for husband

"husband is a motorcycle hobbiest...he had been eyeing tool chests for some time so i got him this as a surprise gift, & he really likes it. i purchased it based on positive reviews & reasonable price since i know nothing about tool chests. tho i was concerned it would be flimsy, now that it is here i am able to compare it to more expensive options in other stores -- & this chest is as good as the others... no problems w/ keys & able to wheel it around easily. was pleasantly shocked it was so quickly delivered w/in a couple days!!"

Good buy

Pros: drawer liners are included, large wheels, ample space in front of top chest to hold items.
"Very high quality. Looked at every major brand and store. The quality is better than most and as good as many much more expensive chests. If the drawer configuration fits your needs - this is a no brainer."

Buy it! Great product

Pros: get quality great price for getting both pieces.
"Being my first tool-chest combo, in fact first tool storage of any sort, I am very happy. Well built, seems solid. Drawers roll smoothly and evenly. Welded, heavy duty material. You will not be disappointed. As others have mentioned, seems strange that there are different keys for the top and bottom. Only issue I have was side had small dimple, even though box had no marks or appearance of damage. Also, did not notice the sticker on the side telling you tel inspect before signing bill of delivery. Come on, you think these guys are going to wait the time it took me to get both of these out of the box and set up. Other than that little blemish I am so happy. Now I just need to go buy more tools to fill it up. :)"

Just What I Wanted

Cons: missing hardware pkg for the large handle
"This is my first tool chest and roller combo - I waited many years to want to spend the amount of $$$ a good combo costs - I am not disappointed. I relied on the reviews of other Costco members and they were right on. This combo is solidly built, the drawers slide easily because of the bearing slides. Buy this and you will be very happy."

All around good product

Pros: great value and craftsmanship.
Cons: same key for top and bottom chest instead of 2
Model Number: Excel 26" tool chest model no. (TBT4008-S) (TB2080BBS-B-ST)
"I purchased this product after reading the review on it, i received the tool chest in a short time, there was a blemish on one of the drawers, i contact COSTCO for assistance and the vendor sent me out a replacement in a short time.
I'm very please with this product, it has a nice finnish and the drawers work very well, it also comes with liners in the drawer to protect the metal finnish."

Excellent Buy

"Tool chest quality, craftmanship, and paint were better than expected at this price. All judged excellent. Only complaint was that plastic drawer corner edges keep falling off and get lost! Better to glue tem on!"

Great Solid Box

"I am very pleased with this box! It came super fast from Costco to Californa where I live. There was a little assembly to do and it was ready to use. It has great little rubber inserts in the drawers and they are super duty ball bearing. The boxes both have great really fancy locks too! You will be able to keep you stuff locked up! The price really can't be beat. Craftsman equivilent was twice the price....."

Great Tool Box!!!

Pros: price
Cons: 2 keys i know picky...
"I've had this tool box for a little over a year now and I'm very pleased with the quality! The powder coat quality is excellent. Shows no sign of wear after 1 year of daily use. I have a fair amount of hand & power tools and they all fit. My only complaint is that I wish both the top and bottom used the same key."

Everything I was looking for...

Pros: heavy duty welded construction, attention to detail & quality, easy curbside delivery included in price, ball bearing feature for standard price
"I did a lot of research before I bought this chest. I considered Craftsman as well as some used brand name boxes on Craigslist. I needed a box for a home garage but wanted it to be a decent investment and not wear out or be flimsy. My criteria were that it needed ball bearing drawers, 500lb+ casters, welded construction instead of rivets (because many riveted products got bad reviews for construction), and plenty of space for the price. This box had all that and more. It was nice to see that the drawers were all lined, the casters attach very solidly, and the drawer arrangement is very convenient. On the bottom they span the whole width of the unit, and there are plenty of small, split drawers on top for the harder to keep track of things. We should get years and years of use out of this. We will probably wear out before it does!"
