What's the Problem?
Pros: hands-free operation, thick sealing strip, vertical design saves space, marinate function Cons: no canisters, minor bag waste
Model Number:
V3825
"I don't understand why people have such negative reactions to this FoodSaver. I had one of the earlier models for many years and this model is a huge improvement.
First, bag "waste" is not that big of a deal. If an extra inch of waste is a deal-breaker for you then by all means continue to use whatever food storage system you currently use and forget about this one. Otherwise, don't worry about it. Buy your bags/rolls from Costco and be happy about saving money that way.
Second, "my bag wont seal properly" people must be doing something wrong. Read the instructions, it is fairly straight forward. I have never had a problem with this machine failing to seal. The sealing strip is thicker on this machine than on previous models and seals the bags with ease. Maybe people have problems because they are not inserting the bags properly; I don't know, I follow the instructions and it works every time.
Third, buy this from Costco and if it breaks on you, return it for a refund. This is a consumer product and there are bound to be some that just don't work. It happens with everything. Isn't the return policy one of the reasons we buy from Costco?
In all, I am very happy with this FoodSaver. It is a HUGE improvement over the old clam-shell style. I love the marinate feature - fully marinated chicken breasts in 10 minutes! I love how this is completely hands-free; insert the bag and it "grips" the inserted end and vacuums then seals while you are free to do something else with your hands. Take it from me, a long time FoodSaver user, this is a great model with great features.
I gave it four stars only because I would like to have had at least one canister in this set. The machine, however, is a 5 star machine."

Hate it.
Pros: looks nice Cons: everything. a giant step backwards
"After about a year of trying to live with the new model, we decide to return it to keep our sanity. A "new & improved" model should not take 3 times as long to do the same job and waste twice as many bags as the prior model. The "Automatic bag detection " is the worse part of the new features. And yes, we used the corner- curved in method of bag insertion. Its about a 50/50 chance of correct operation. We wish we never donated our older foodsaver."

Real money saver
Pros: love the canisters and containers for left overs., also great for packaging up things for camping. Cons: quite a bit of extra bag is needed for the sealing
Model Number:
V3825
"I got his for my wife for Mother's Day 2009. It has paid for itself many times over. We have gotten several of the canisters and containers. They work great at keeping foods fresh, like after you open a bag of chips. Put the rest in a canister and vacuum it up - no more throwing half the bag away because they went stale. We also buy large cuts of meat, cut it ourselves and seal it up. Example - you can get a whole tenderloin at Costco for $7.65 a lb., it cuts up to about 15 steaks (depending on how thick you like them). I'm sure you know how much it would cost to go into your local grocery store and buy a couple filet mignons for that special candlelight dinner :-) The containers are great for left-overs - food stay good much longer when vacuum sealed. We went clam digging, cleaned them and sealed them up and froze them. What a treat to pull out of the freezer and have fried razor clams, or make a batch of homemade clam chowder. YUM!"

Deja vu
Pros: very nice new design & additional features., retractable suction hose. Cons: machines don't last more than a few months., too tall & wide for easy use in a small kitchen.
Model Number:
V3825
"The only reason I gave one star is that I can't give a zero. The ONLY improvement in this particular machine over my three previous ones (they were the preceding model) is the re-design. This design IS much better - the controls are simple, easy to see, and well-laid out; and the ability to store a roll of bags inside the machine and to cut the edges straighter with the built-in cutting blade is great. But I also have not gotten through even one roll of bags before the controls just suddenly stop working. I've been vacuum-packing foods for 20+ yrs., and have never experienced such consistently poor quality in what should be a "high-end" product. The bags are NOT re-usable, despite the company's claim that they are, and they DO puncture too easily. I didn't purchase my previous machine @ Costco, and both replacements under the 1-yr. warranty were re-furb's; the company refused to send me a new one, TWICE. I don't know how this company stays in business. I'm very glad that Costco will take this back, but I wish they could find a more reliable manufacturer. How about a KIRKLAND Vacuum Sealer??"

Pros: cleanable Cons: short use life

"people who review this probably didn't have it very long or this is their first one. Thankfully Costco has a liberal return policy. we're about to get our 4th V3800-series unit. we haven't had one yet that will go through a whole box of bags before it will no longer draw a complete vacuum. it wastes way too much bag and you really don't have any options. design is o.k., the execution is miserable. expect no help from the company, all they want to do is sell you another."

Read Manual First! - Very Good
Cons: wastes bag length
"Love this gadget, didnt get full benefit until I read the manual. Sliding bags in curving edge down, and on an angle made a big difference. Also, learning to hit the seal button to stop the vacuuming process midway for softer foods like muffins and cookies helped. Finally, when using with sharp edged foods like dry pasta, simply wrapping first in a paper towel prevents perforation. This item would be perfect except for the one issue everyone has, wasted bag length. Other than that, it is great. love using the canisters as well."

"So far I have sealed 7 bags of dehydrated food and 6 of them leaked due to the sharp edged on the food. Hmmmm......"

Love it!!
"Just bought this product today. I came home and vacuumed about 70 pounds of meat. What a breeze. This is about my third vacuum sealer and by far the easiest one to use. I truly believe that I actually use way less bags. I would recommend this sealer to anyone. I buy a lot of meat on sale. Vacuuming is the way to go. I took some steak out of the freezer that was vacuumed four years ago and it was just as fresh as if I had purchased it yesterday. It's the best way to save a lot of money."

Great Product
Model Number:
V3825
"I purchased this as a replacement for an older V2490. I had no problems sealing or vacuuming and sealing. You can still seal chip bags and I don't have to look for the hose for use with canisters. It does much more automatically and takes up less storage space and counter space when in use."

Exceeded my expectations
Pros: easy to use attractive appliance
"I'll admit, I haven't owned a FoodSaver before, but I have been extremely happy with this machine. We've sealed a wide variety of food - fresh fish, crab cakes, wine, berries, meats, etc. This machine seems to do it all. I feel like I've embarked on a whole new world - good stuff."

The Worst Model Foodsaver ever,
Model Number:
V3235 f
"I retruned this foodsaver to Costco! Thanks Costco for treating your customers so well!!!!!
I've owned several Food savers until they wore out. The last 2 were the Prof II series. I bought the V3825 as it was advertised as the latest and greatest. Of all the Food savers I've own, this is the worst. Uses an inch extra at the seals, it does not seal other plastic bags like potato chip bags etc. It is difficult to reseal Foodsaver bags. Had I bought V3235 first, I would have never bought additional models!
I wished I had read the reviews and skipped this model. When a new model is released, it is suppose go forward in quality not backward like this model. I've spoke with Support at Foodsaver and they told me that the people who previously owned other models did not like this one and those who never owned one in the past were happy. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews"

A Must Have
Pros: ease of use, on-board bag roll Cons: uses slightly extra wrap

"I absolutely love this FoodSaver. Since it is summer and a lot of fresh veggies have been out, I have been doing some wonderful freezer dishes. Also, there are a lot of buys on meats by the bulk. The new FoodSaver has been a godsend. Much more reliable than my old one."

"Half the time the on button wouldn't turn on and then when it did come on its really hard for the sensor to detect the bags, so if you don't have it just right it won't work... I found it frustrating and want my old one back.... I would not recommend this to anyone..."

It's better... but different
Pros: vacuum capacity., sealing strip., cleanable Cons: it takes 2 steps to "make" a bag., noisey... but more powerful too.
Model Number:
V3825
"This is my 4th Foodsaver. The previous 3 were easy to use but all "died" because of sealing strip issues. My last one was a "Professional II" model which cost serious money. Imagine my angst when I called to arrange a repair to the sealing strip and was told that "it's not repairable".
My previous units were made by Tilla, and were very easy to use. I thought they were great. This unit is made by Sunbeam, and it's different. It requires more "participation" on the part of the user... but I think it's a better unit. After a few days of fighting the learning curve I have found that it has a superior sealing strip. It seals better, It has a more powerful vacuum capability and it's "smarter" than the other units I have owned.
Folks that don't like change will have a problem with this machine. I suspect that folks that never owned the Tilla versions will love it... as I do."

Not as good as the old one
Cons: poor design, unreliable
Model Number:
v3825
"It looks great, but that is the only good thing about it. I have had 3 Foodsaver sealers before and this it does not measure up. It does not vacuum the bag well. Each sealing process generally takes 2-3 attempts. My wife tried and had the same problem. The automatic features don't help. It causes you to use 15% bigger bags that the previous models. It is larger and more difficult to fit in a drawer. I don't care that it is stainless steel - I don't display it. BUY A DIFFERENT MODEL. FOODSAVERS WORK WELL, EXCEPT FOR THIS DESIGN."

Fancy Features But Slow
Pros: sleek and compact Cons: slow sealing features
"This is the fifth food saver I've bought and although the look is great and saves space in the kitchen, it's much slower at sealing than any of the others I've used. The slot for the bag edges is much more difficult to use and takes too much time. It also uses more bag material to seal the ends than the other models. Overall, I don't have the time to wait on this one."

Disappointed
"Love the smaller footprint, but that's about it. The sealing seam is much to wide, wasting bags, and the sensor doesn't work properly. It takes FOREVER to get it to seal. Some of the bags in the freezer lost their seal. Loved my original Foodsaver, hate this one!!!!!"
