Superb Safe

Pros: you can't go wrong with this safe!
Cons: none
Model Number: Bighorn EL 7144
"When it comes to gun safes the old saying "Bigger Is Better" certainly holds true and this safe is one of the largest on the market.
VERY heavy and VERY heavy duty. Once lag-bolted to the floor it is definitely here to stay. It took 4 experienced men to move this into my house and IMO it is money well spent.
The door alone weighs several hundred pounds but is so well hung it will open with very little pressure indeed.

I'd Buy It Again

Model Number: B7144EL
"I did quite a bit of online research on gun safes before I bought, for a couple of reasons. First, because they ain't cheap. Second, because I noticed a difference in the time ratings for fire protection. I looked at models a couple of places. I never saw a Bighorn or Rhino, but the models/brands I did see didn't appear to be of the same quality. The Big Horn, even though it's what I'd call, after doing my research, a middle of the pack safe, cost more than the models I looked at. And, none touched the 70-minute fire rating. I'm very satisfied with the Bighorn & Costco's service. The driver who delivered the safe [1,050 lbs] was nice enough to use his pallet jack to bring the safe into my garage - he was only required to drop it in my drive. Plus it arrived before it was scheduled. Just by coincidence I found out about a major gun show here in the DC area after I had my safe. I went & sure enough was able to see several other brands. All but one brand didn't compare to the quality of the Bighorn. However, one brand did: Fort Knox. Very impressive. They didn't have a cut-away, so I couldn't see the guts of the wall construction, but the interiors seemed to have better quality lining, shelving & heavier shelf supports. But, they were at least 50% to 100% higher in price. I'd love to have one, but for the price, I'm loving the Bighorn more. I'm already thinking about buying another gun safe & if I do, odds are good that it'll be a Bighorn, from Costco."

The Best Gun Safe!!!

Pros: great
Cons: none
Model Number: Bighorn B7144EL Heavy Duty Safe
"This is absolutely the best gun safe on the market for the money. It is huge and very well-built and I have never had a problem with it whatsoever. I purchased one in 2009 and also an additional one in September 2011. Both safes work flawlessly and delivery was extremely fast and courteous. I would highly recommend this gun safe to anyone was thinking about purchasing one."

Excellent value, great price

Pros: very large very nice and durable paint finish, tall allowing for extra storage, great value for the price., bighorn customer service is great
Cons: no internal plugs. shelves and clips are cheap
Model Number: B7144EL
"This is my 7th safe purchase and last. This safe is large enough to hold guns, ammo, and most of my other valuables. The paint finish has been dramatically improved. It's durable, almost like a plastic coating that is very tough and looks great. Easily added battery operated LED lighting and dehumidifier. Delivery was fantastic, quick and driver helped position the safe in the garage. I tipped him $10, cheap given I could never move without the right equipment. I would advise positioning it where you want it once, too massive and heavy to move more than once. Door is heavy duty and swings easily on the massive hinges. Decorative hinge caps are cheap plastic, I wish they were brass but they do look good once installed. I was hesitant to purchase when I learned Bighorn safes are made in China but Rhino Safes are made in the U.S. as I want to support U.S. workers but with the $400 discount and after speaking to another owner/dealer, this safe won out and I am not disappointed. The electronic lock is solid and easy to change the lock code. Buyers should always purchase larger than what they think they need if possible. As you fill your safe, spending a little more now is worth it as you won't need another safe for a long time."

Rock Solid! Interior needs help.

Pros: quick access with well built electronic lock., massive hinges for smooth solid door closing., velcro holstered gun holder built in., massive locking bolts all around. solid!
Cons: one floor screw hole not drilled through., shelves marginal., shelf mounting pitiful!
Model Number: B7144EL
"I bought this safe to hold the extra guns and ammo that wouldn't fit in my Fort Knox. I was pleased at the expedient shipping, courteous freight driver (put it on my patio, with my help) and an local excellent safe mover that only wanted $75, but I gave him $100. This safe is heavy duty and well built except for the interior. The carpeted particle board shelves are probably sufficient, but the standards and clips for shelving are very cheap. I possible had a little more ammo than most and one upper plus one lower shelf collapsed. The clips just "unfolded". I bought heavy duty clips made for steel shelving in a safety cabinet. I also replaced one small shelf with AC 3/4" plywood. These all collapsed again. The clips held, but pulled the thin metal right out of the standards (uprights that the clips go in). I reorganized to put less load on shelving, but I'm not happy with this. I've had to load and unload this safe 3 times so far. I plan on doing this one last time. I will remove the cheap standards and install full 3/4 plywood down each side and install shelves of the same with 2x2 supports glued and screwed. It might sound as if I'm trying to overload the shelves, but the mounting system is truly cheap. I would buy this safe again. You can't beat the price and ruggedness. The only thing I would do different is install shelving first thing. You will find safes with better interiors, but not this size and this heavy duty. I was going to give it 3 stars, but the rest of the safe is too nice. One of the holes to fasten safe to the floor was not all the way through the fire insulation. I could not drill through. Put it down with one 3/8" lag screw.Safe and contents are heavy enough, but you don't want anyone to tip it over to try and gain access. Drill the 3/8" hole for electrical access on the back BEFORE the safe is in place, or you will be measuring and drilling from the inside like I did. Don't buy a handgun mounting system. Just buy the velcro holsters, add more velcro and stick wherever you want on the door. It's all carpeted!"

Great safe, great price, great service

Pros: build quality, value, service
Cons: moving the safe into the house is a bit expensive
Model Number: B7144EL
"Safe: well, even though I knew the dimensions, it's still surprising how big this safe is... it makes everything else in the room seem smaller. But the quality of the safe is excellent: extremely well built, good quality materials, and very "safe"... no one will get into this thing without a couple pounds of c-4.
Price: this was substantially less expensive than anything else of the same size/quality that I found. Value for the buck is extremely high.
Service: Rhino is very professional and helpful; I completely concur with the other reviewers on this. The safe was delivered inside of two weeks of the order, and the delivery guy was very nice and moved the safe into the garage (and wouldn't accept the $20 I offered).
On a side note: once this safe was in the garage on ground level, because of its weight, it was about $300 to get it up 3 stairs (we're on a crawlspace) and about 25 feet straight down a hall (no turns, no stair cases). So, plan accordingly. I am not a little guy, and my friends are even bigger, and we didn't feel it was safe to move this monster by ourselves... so I called movers, most of whom declined to be involved, and only a specialized company that moves big safes took the job.
Bottom line: solid quality safe, the best value, coming from a great company."

COSTCO DOES IT AGAIN...

Pros: 12 gauge construction, better fire rating, large capacity, price (incluing delivery)
Cons: none
Model Number: B7144EL
"...Bringing yet, another Excellent product to thier Members. I have had this Safe for a little over a year now and I can tell you this. I am so Absolutely Pleased with this Safe. Like the other reviews written before mine, I completely agree with everything they've written. When I began my search for a second Safe. I, like them, searched high & low in every possible way for Price, Construction, Fire Rating, Features, Capacity, Quality and most of all, the Customer Service from Rhino Metals, Inc. Wow!!! Now that's what I'm talking about. Everybody that I talked to at Rhino Metals about the Product, Options, Warranty, Delivery, etc was top notch. They even called me after I received the Safe to make sure everything was OK. And, we can't forget the delivery Driver. Very Professional, Courteous, Helpful and willing to assist in setting it where I wanted it. Would I buy another Safe from Costco/Rhino Metals? Without Hesitation."

Bighorn B7144EL Heavy Duty Safe

Pros: roomy as can be.
Model Number: B7144EL
"Well after much research I went with this safe. I got it in the basement with the help of 3 friends and some furniture rollers (no stairs). Its really not that bad if you take the door in separately. The interior is great and very easily modified to meet your specific use. Very glad I went with this purchase!! Would do it again."

Perfect Product

Pros: capacity and fire rating
Cons: none
Model Number: Bighorn B7144EL
"We needed a safe that we could use in our gun store. The safe had to be secure. Highly fire rated, and has a large capacity.
This safe is all of that and was considerably less expensive then other brand name safes we saw at gun shows.
The delivery driver was awesome too. He actually helped us get the safe in our front door, and of course we tipped him.
I would highly recommend this safe. I will be buying another one for my home."

Green Mountain Brothers Bag 3 Bighorns

Model Number: Bighorn 31 Model # 6039 and Two - Bighorn 47 Model # 7144
"We spent several months conducting research: internet, visiting safe dealers, locksmiths, and telephone conversations with numerous manufacturers. We discovered that the Bighorn Safes from Rhino Metals had the product that met our specifications along with excellent customer service and support as well. The crew at Rhino impressed us a great deal during our research phase. Both Amy and Jennifer at Rhino Metals are very knowledgeable about the product and assisted us with the purchase of add-on options like: extra shelving, dehumidifier rods, and locks.
Of primary importance, we all wanted the thicker 10 gauge steel as apposed to the thinner 12 gauge. Most other manufacturers of 10 gauge thick safes were nearly double in price in contrast to Bighorn! The 70-minute fire rating and 1 ½” locking bolts on Bighorn Safes were the secondary factors that convinced us that Rhino Metals had the product of choice.
My oldest brother enjoys the Bighorn 47 with the electronic lock as advertised. Our youngest brother prefers the manual/mechanical lock on his Bighorn 47. Rhino Metals allows the customer to substitute locks and will install the manual combination lock at no extra charge! My storage needs are less therefore, I ordered the Bighorn 31 with the electronic lock and purchased the manual lock in case I decide to switch it out in the future. Amy informed me that the technicians at Rhino would talk me through the lock installation process when I’m ready. That’s what we are talking about when outstanding customer service is mentioned!
Curbside delivery is included however, the friendly professional driver will gladly place the safe under cover in your garage providing you recognize his service.
The Green Mountain Boys believe that the “class act” Rhino Metals will be in business for many years to come."

Very Good Value

"I'm very happy with this purchase. I researched and shopped around a lot and I could not find a better value. Similar size safes with less steel were much more expensive. I called Rhino prior to the purchase and they were very helpful and professional."
