Crazy if you don't buy this

Cons: none
"This comes with so much stuff that you would really need in an emergency, but would not think about it when the time came. They really put some thought into this product."

good start

Pros: lots of stuff good price
Cons: cooling needed
Model Number: 401641
"Everything looks good. Only gripe I have is that to actually get the 20 years out of the food you must store the product at 60 degrees. I live in Southern California and my home can get into the 80s and 90s at times and is on a slab with no cool basement. I bought a small wine cooler set to 60 degrees and took the food out (it comes at the top of the bucket in a big bag) ... also dug out the MRE bars buried lower and stuck them in the cooler as well. Hopefully everything will be good should we ever need it."

Peace of mind

Pros: wonderful
Cons: none
"This container has everything in it for a month for 4 people and sits in the closet. Clean and compact. It gives me peace of mind. I recommend all my friends to buy this and their other supplies so they can be part of the solution not part of the problem."

A fine start on preparedness

Pros: some of everything you need, self-contained, reasonable quality
Cons: you should supplement this kit, not as easy to carry as a bag or backpack kit, included foods require water and a way to boil it
"I believe every family should maintain a disaster preparedness kit of some sort. Even a summer power outage of more than a few hours could spoil the entire food supply of some families. A disaster on the scale of hurricane Katrina is possible anywhere, though, of course, the precise threats vary depending upon one's location. Consider your own risk of earthquakes, hurricanes, snowstorms. All of us could also be within range of a man-made disaster.
Having believed this for many years, I'm embarrassed to say that I am only just now getting myself organized to create an organized emergency supply kit for my own family.
The Food For Health™ Deluxe Family Emergency Supply Kit is a fine start for a family emergency stash. Everything listed was present in the 5 gallon bucket upon arrival. (I inventoried the contents, of course.) All expiration dates are the maximum possible for given items--10-20 years for the freeze-dried food; 5 years for the water packets; 2 years for the toothpaste in the "hygiene kits," etc.
None of the tools or supplies is "top of the line" quality, but all items feel reasonably substantial. For example, while I'd never want to cut serious firewood with the included hatchet-tool, I'd rather use that than the tiny blade of my pocket knife. Similarly, I intend to purchase a good quality NOAA (weather/alert) radio, but at least, for now, I have a small working radio in our kit.; there are only two cups to eat from, but two is better than none; etc. The bucket is a bit heavy (from a suburban, out of shape Mom's perspective), but I would have no trouble carrying it out to my car if we were evacuating. I would not be able to carry it for long distances if evacuation on foot were necessary, though I would probably try throwing it in one of the seats of our double stroller under those conditions.
If you are thinking of getting organized for preparedness and have done nothing, then at least order this kit and have a running start! After that, add more and higher quality items to your preparations, especially concentrating on the types of situations most likely for your own location.
Above all else, purchase bottled water or large containers to fill with tap water now to make certain your family has a full three day supply of drinking water stored in case water supplies are ever contaminated or unavailable. The little packets in this kit are a fine start, but you should have AT LEAST one gallon of water per person per day, and several gallons per person per day is much better. There is a water filter in this kit, which is great, but where will you find water to filter if there is nothing coming from your pipes?
Finally, every home should have a first aid kit much more comprehensive than the one in this kit. Once again, what is included here is a reasonable start, and much better than no first aid kit at all."
