The State-of-the-Art Winix PlasmaWave™ Air Cleaner Model 5300 features 3 stages of Air Cleaning to capture and neutralize a broad range of indoor pollutants quietly and efficiently. The Carbon Pre-Filter collects dust, pet hair, pollen as well as odors caused by cigarette smoking, organic decay, and cooking. The True-HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns in size, and the PlasmaWave™ Plasma generator attacks airborne pollutants at the molecular level.
Also includes an Air Quality sensor that provides “set-and-forget” operation by adjusting the fan speed automatically. Sleep mode great for bedrooms. Suitable for very large rooms: Clean Air Delivery Rate of more than 350sq feet.

Maybe a bad batch
Pros: looks nice
Cons: noisy after 8 hours.

"I turned on the purifier the first time with excitement and it was great. No sound at all. I mean, very quiet operation. Left it on for the whole night on Auto and woke up hearing a sound, like a cricket makes at night. The fan is making this kind of sound in the purifier. I must say its very annoying after not being able to hear any sound. So I returned the purifier thinking it was defective. Ordered second one and it was like deja vu. Exact same thing happened. I like the way it looks and works but the cricket like noise is something I can't get used to it. Second one is gonna go back too."

Cleaned Great - Didn't Last Long
Pros: cleans the air. light weight unit is easily moved
Cons: fan became very noise after a short period of time

"This product worked well....at least for a bit. I noticed a vast difference in the places I used it in. Fresh air, less dust, my allergy symptoms decreased. The down side is that the fan got pretty noisy fast. It went from a whisper quiet sleep mode to a quiet helicopter sleep mode...and the faster you run it the louder it gets. Could be just my unit. I'm returning it this weekend."

I've stopped sneezing!

Great Air Purifier

"I have tried many air purifiers and I LOVE this one!!! I have been so happy with it. It is so quiet and very effective. I have alot of allergies this helps me alot. When I enter the room where I have this air purifier, I can actually feel that the air is cleaner. I am going to buy another one."

Just a big HEPA filter

"Bought this at Costco. I received it without the Plasma feature working. I have an Electrolux that is almost identical. The plasma went out on that one a long time ago. If the plasma is working you should be able to smell it - and also slightly hear it. The plasma part of these units seems to be of poor quality. Either the plasma doesn't work at all or it stops working after a few weeks or months. I really liked the Electrolux when the plasma was working on it. The sensor (when on Auto mode) only adjusts the fan for odors. Not really helpful if you are after good air quality. Your air could be dusty or have pollen in it - but no odor so the fan remains on low. So, the auto mode is not good for those with allergies - but good for those who are sensitive to smells. This is a good HEPA filter, but the auto mode is only good for odors. Returned it to Costco."

No More Remote!!! (The Picture Lies)
Pros: cleans air very well
Cons: no remote, can't disable plasma cutter
"This product is fantastic. It does a great job cleaning the air. The problem is Winix got cheap and removed the remote from the 5300 (couldn't find mine in the box so i called winix). The remote is the only way to turn off the plasma cutter / ionizer. Not only does the ionizer produce very small amounts of ozone *potentially bad for you* but it sounds like a pack of crickets on low settings. I was not able to sleep at night due to the chirping of this device.
<<<Winix, i dont know why you had to tamper with such a fantastic product>>>
If you dont mind noise of plasma cutter then this unit will be a great buy!"

Ok, but could be better

"A decent value but it no longer comes with a remote like my old 5300. And this new version makes a noticeable buzzing sound most likely from the plasma wave assembly. It also smells like plastic for the first week. I almost returned the unit but eventually decided to keep it."

"Unit is very sensitive to changes in air quality;
it responds to new odors such as cooking, shaving lotion, etc, automatically increases air flow until the air sensors trigger a return to normal air flow. Fan sound is not loud to us even in the higher setting.

Waste of Time
Pros: air flow - no drafts blows air softly., air quality colored light indicator, replacable filters.
Cons: sound - annoying chirp low or frenetic at higher., takes up too much space - 2 ft all around, awkward to carry - no handle no grab areas.

"This is the first time I try an Air Cleaner, it arrived on time and was easy to setup, what's even better is it's very quiet and shows the air quality clearly although I don't how it measures the quality of the air in my house."

You get what you pay for

"I found this unit to be ineffective. It is basically a large plastic housing with a fan and a filter. I noticed absolutely no difference in air quality with this unit running. I returned this unit and purchased a Blueair unit. What a difference, you really do get what you pay for."

Good for my needs
"Machine is quiet when running on the lower speeds. It appears to regulate air quality well. I have seasonal allergies, as well as my dog (yes my dog) and I've noticed in both of us our symptoms have improved. As of yet no complaints."

Not for problem air issues

"If it's on high for a long time you'll notice a difference. Otherwise on lower settings pretty ineffective for my 10 X 8 bedroom. Sleep mode just blows air. I ran it for 4 hours in my daughters bedroom (fairly clean) to alleviate her allergies and it's monitor never noted an improvement.. On sleep mode she still woke up congested. Plasma mode is a gimmick. But I do think I have an unknown pollutant off gasing from carpet or mattress in her room."
