Wireless Wind Sensor

Pros: works as advertised.
Cons: none
"We live in an area where the whole back of our house is in the sun in the afternoon and early evening. We bought two 18" motorized awnings a couple of years ago but were afraid do leave them out during the day when we were gone. I bought the sensors, installed them per the directions and they are perfect !!!!!!!! Directions were easy, installation a breeze (no pun intended), and they make sure your motors are programed correctly. We now leave the awnings out and don't worry about the wind."

Better safe than sorry

Pros: works when tested by manual rapid lift and drop, hasn't needed to retracted awning while unattended
Cons: none yet
"When we purchased our new Sunsetter 14 ft motorized awning with acrylic fabric, we thought that protection against unexpected bad weather would be a very good idea."

5 minute install

Model Number: Wind Sensor
"Worked well. Agitated the end of the awning and it rolled right up --- just like it should. It will take the worry out of leaving the awning out at times."

Good idea - not yet seen work

"I have only seen this work when testing during install but I have seen the awning pick up in the wind and think this could save me from having it fly off when left open during a storm accidentally."

A must have

Pros: best idea ever to save your awning in high wind.
Cons: none
"If you have a SunSetter Awning, you need one of these. I have had the awning for about three years. One day I forgot to roll the awning in before leaving the house and a gale wind came up. My neighbor noticed what was happening and was able to roll it up for me. If he had not, I would no longer have the awning. The SunSetter Wireless Wind Sensor was super easy to install and works like a charm. Buy it from Costco and not from the SunSetter Company and you will save money. You do need to have the wireless remote control for your awning however."

Works great

"I installed the sensor and tested it per the instructions and it retracted the awning. I waited for a windy day to see if would automaticly retract. The wind whipped the awning as much as I though it should and didn't retract, so I lowered the sensitivity adjuster from 2 to 1 and this setting works great."

Works well, challenging to program

Pros: good wind insurance, works well once installed
Cons: a little tricky to program
Model Number: Wireless Wind Sensor
"The wind sensor installed easily and works perfectly once it is programmed. It required reversing the motor direction which didn't work the firtst few times I went through the steps. Sunsetter has excellent customer service personnel and tried the steps with me several times over the phone. When that didn't work, a little help from their tech specialists and they got it to reverse. The rest of the steps worked easily."

Really good, really simple.

Pros: easy to install, small little box
"Easy to install and works exactly as advertised. I can now leave the house with peace of mind when leaving the retractable awning in the open position. I know that if the wind picks up, which is fairly common in the desert, the sensor will get it closed before any damage occurs."

Works as advertised

Pros: works as described, remote hanger incl.
Cons: quality control for bad battery terminal
Model Number: Somfy
"The SunSetter Wireless Wind Sensor was easy to install. The directions were easy to follow except for the part that said to install on the arm nearest the motor, which on my unit was on the right, but the photo showed it should be installed on the left side. One deflect was the unit had a battery contact which was installed at a 45 degree angle, but it made contact with the battery positive end and I did not want to go to the trouble to return it. It just made the battery slightly less tight. I am highly satisfied with the unit's performance."

Good Investment

Pros: easy to install

"We can get unexpected gusts of wind so I'd close awning if I was away from home. Now I can leave it open and not have to worry. Awning blocks sun/heat from coming in sliding glass door."

Sunsetter 18' Awning

Pros: quality, price, delivery
Cons: minor. add open/close on the remote control
Model Number: 18' Traditional Motorized
"The price was great!
The quality of the product was great!
The customer support was great!
The delivery process was great!
And above all, it totally met all, and exceeded our expectations. When you make an investment in your home lie this, you would like to know that it was the right thing to do, and in this case, it was. We can now enjoy our deck during the hot (but infrequent) summer days here in the northwest. It was like getting a new room in our home. The quality of the product is great, and we can readily recommend it to others.

Really glad we spent the money!

Pros: unbelievably cooler in the shade!, very attractive makes the house look better.
Cons: there aren't any "cons."
Model Number: Sunsetter motorized with wind sensor
"It took longer to receive than expected, but once we had it up all was forgiven. The installer told us that it was easy to attach to the house. He and his helper were done in less than an hour. The difference that the awning has made INSIDE my living room is easily felt. It must have lowered the temperature by (at least) 10 degrees. Before the SunSetter we had to close the blinds and hang black cloth over the windows and door to help the air conditioner. We LOVE this addition to the front of the house. It looks great, works properly -- we are waiting for some wind to see the sensor close the unit!"

Not just the wind sensor! The awning also!

Pros: great telephone assistance from sunsetter
Model Number: #440698
"We ordered an 11' wide awning with the wind sensor. Installation is not difficult, but the most important aspect is attaching the awning brackets securely to the side of your home and putting them in a straight and level line. The wind sensor, in our opinion, is a necessity. It's inexpensive and prevents damage from gusty winds. And, it really works! Also, you can vary the sensitivity of the wind sensor; a nice feature. Our installation was difficult because we just barely had enough room above the sliding door to install it. It is good to have two strong people to help mount the awning into the brackets, once they are firmly attached to your home. The remote control and motorized awning is the way to go. You can manually use the supplied "crank rod" to roll it back in or roll it out, but it takes a lot of time and effort. We called Sunsetter several times and they were always available and very helpful."

Unattended SunSetter use may result in awning tear

Pros: nicely priced, quick turnaround from order
Cons: excess fabric for easy tears, sunsetter hasn't answered or returned our calls, so heavy you may reconsider returning it
"We have had the awning up for about a month now and have learned that SunSetter installs extra fabric, which will tear if the awning isn't retracted properly. Therefore, this is not a great add to the SunSetter awning. It was a great idea but we have regrets."

Good add on

Pros: adjustable sensitivity
Cons: set up instructions
Model Number: 436487
"Took some study to install this in the correct place on the SunSetter Left Lateral Arm. Once this was determined it was easy to install, but no room for error. Simplified instructions with 1, 2, 3, etc would be helpful."
