IoSafe 1.5TB

Pros: easy to setup
Cons: network port would be nice for faster transfer.
Model Number: ioSafe SOLO 1.5TB
"I Bought this unit in a last resort after many other TB USB drives failed me.
I needed an inexpensive solution to backup our File Servers, Exchange Server, and PST files. Wanted to be sure water damage or fire would not result in data loss.
Plugged in to my NAS Server 2003 with no issues, Nothing to configure on the drive itself. Just setup the database software to the target the new drive and it worked.
We now have 3 units and I plan to purchase several more."

Just what I was looking for

Model Number: Solo 1.5TB
"The drive is packaged in a solid enclosure which should live up to its fire & water protection and survival claims.
It is worth every penny.
It seamlessly connects to the PC via the USB link. It is not superfast, but does the job just fine.
I store it in a file cabinet and use it as a second stage backup once a month or so. I have had a primary automated backup to protect against a mechanical drive failure, but was worried both the computer and this backup would get wiped out in case of disaster ( fire, flood, eathquake, etc). Some things, especially years of family pictures, travel memories, music, and videos are irreplaceable.
Any spinning device wears out and ultimately fails. Although iOSafe offers data recovery in case of drive failure in the first year, it is cheap and much safer to go the two stage route and not have ioSafe run all the time.
The huge 1.5TB of storage beats saving files to DVDs and keeping them in bank safety boxes"

Solid Drive

"I purchased three of these drives for my various business locations and so far they are all performing perfectly. I have Windows Backup configured to back up to these devices and they seem to be solid. They are quiet and while not blazingly fast, they are more than fast enough for nightly backups. Combined with a network backup, our files are well protected and my employees can rapidly restore from this device."

Beware Mac Users

Model Number: IOSAFE SOLO 1.5TB
"I purchased this drive for the same reasons everyone else likely will: the promise of safe, secure, easy backups of my Mac. Unfortunately, the drive comes formatted for Windows, not Mac. Although they describe how 'easy' it is to format it to Mac, my real world experience (as is often the case with these devices) was quite different. The screens that popped up were different than on their website, and it took several tries to get it right. Time Machine worked well and for a week I was able to backup flawlessly.
However, one day when I plugged the drive into the USB port on my Mac, the drive icon didn't appear. The computer no longer recognized that the drive was even attached. Therefore, I could not backup anything or get Time Machine to recognize it.
More importantly, if I had actually lost any data, it would all be entirely lost - not at all what we want from this drive - which is supposed to provide peace-of-mind and data security.
I called tech support and they gave me the standard 'oh this must be a bad drive' and offered to ship it back to their company for repairs. Disappointed that he so quickly told me it was a bad drive (as if this is a common problem).
In any case, once again glad to have purchased from Costco so I can return this minor headache now before it became a major headache later (should I actually have required its service).
Buyer beware."

IOSafe - great buy

Model Number: 1.5 TB
"I had no idea what to expect when I ordered this disk. I wanted peace of mind in case of a fire. I got what I paid for and more. This is a heavy duty unit and has the heft of lots of weight. I expect it will live through my house burning down. The 1.5 TB is more room than I need. Install took about 1 minute. Instructions were not needed. No Cons."

Perfect Back Up Hard Drive

Pros: price, quality, extra year of data recovery, fireproof, waterproof, user friendly
Cons: none
Model Number: SL1500GBUSB20
"The ioSafe Solo 1.5TB Disaster Proof External Hard Drive is absolutely fantastic. The drive is heavier than it looks (like a fire rated lock box) and is built with first rate construction and materials. The Costco video is worth watching if you are considering this purchase. Additionally, there are some You Tube videos of people doing some very crazy destructive things to this specific device and the hard drive still works! The drive is extremely easy to use and is as simple as plugging in a USB cable. The size of the hard drive is HUGE and capable of backing up a tremendous amount of information and then some. I like the size, shape and weight of the hard drive because these characteristics contribute to me feeling secure and comfortable about my data being safe. This is really an excellent purchase all around. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase!"

Amazing product - but heavy

Pros: super easy to use, huge amount of space, fast transfer speeds, glitch free
Cons: very heavy and a bit bulky
Model Number: ioSafe SOLO 1.5TB
"This is a really great product... super easy to use, works right out of the box. I have Windows 7 and they work perfectly together.... you can set the backup in a couple minutes and never think about it again. And the space is amazing! The only comment I would have, is even though I read everything about this before purchasing, including the weight... I still didn't realize exactly how heavy the drive is... I certainly won't be moving it around much... but that's fine. Overall, I love it."

Fast and efficient

Model Number: SOLO 1.5TB
"I had a different external hard drive that would not play nice with Windows 7. Every time i had to reboot the computer i had to disconnect the hard drive.
The ioSafe works great. It is fast, no boot problems and is a no brainer to install.
Granted i have not tried to light it on fire or drown it. It has a substantial feel to it and the fit and finish is quite good.
This is a definete buy for those of us that are hopefully overly cautious."

Excellent Choice

Pros: secure easy to use
Cons: if space is a concern drive is not small in size.
"Bought this to backup files that needed to be legally kept for years. Wanted to be sure water damage or fire would not result in lost data.
Plugged in to Server 2008 and off it went, no problems so far. Nothing to configure on the drive itself. Just setup the database software to the target the new drive and it worked fine.

IoSafe ~ SOLO

Pros: amount of space for system backups., installing was a snap., plenty of room for all my photos movies and music
Cons: none so far after 4 backups and 11 days of use.
Model Number: ioSafe SOLO 1.5TB
"This replaced my 1 TB USB drive for backups (C and D of my internal hard disks ~ 160 GB) of my system and games. The 1.5 TB space plus the fire and water proof are great. No problem to install and ran right out of the box."

Something To Think About

Pros: fireproof & waterproof
Cons: single hard drive single point of failure
"I've been looking for a product like this for a long time. Now I do not have to store my external hard drive in a safe. With that being said, there is only a single hard drive within this case. If the hard drive fails it doesn't matter if a fire or water gets to it.
All the other reviews imply that they are going to have their family photos & and work data forever and feel super confident and safe, which is good but if that hard drive fails (and it eventually will since it has moving parts) you may lose all or some of your data. If you really want to be safe, you should have at least two copies on two different hard drives."

Don't Pass this up

Crashed 31 days later...

"I purchased this drive due to its great reviews, and it crashed. I was given the option to "try to restore the data" which would not give me the option to return the drive for a refund, or to wipe the drive clean and lose all of my data in order to return it for a refund.
Stuck both ways. I cannot express the grief and disappointment I am experiencing with this loss of data...

Best Security for Family Memories

"I learned about this product from a friend and couldn't believe it. I have thousands of photos and videos of my kids as they were growing up and all are digital. We have friends that lost all of their pictures in a house fire caused by an electrical short. This thought just scared me to death. Both of my kids are in college now and I just couldn't bear to lose these memories. I received the product in just a few days and hooked it up. It honestly took longer to submit my order than it did to get it working with my XP laptop. Backups using the windows backup utility are simple and fast. Knowing I have this extra level of protection has made a big difference in my life."

Phenomal!!!

Model Number: ioSafe SOLO 1.5TB
"Extremely experienced user with a no-fail needset for this drive. Even a five-year old could plug and play this drive. It's instant. It is tasked with backing up several gigs a day by automatic backup software (memeo). Holds the data for two businesses and all family photos, etc.
It's so solid in both build and performance. They really, really impressed me with this product. Sleek, quiet, no heat, perfect. This says nothing of its incredible security against fire, shock, and water. Basically, your house could burn down, your office furniture and walls could fall on it, it could get hit with a firehose and still be recoverable. Five year warranty, etc, etc. I swear I don't work for the company, this product is just that good. Had one of the first models shipped and it's not failed to please once. Last thing I see when the office light goes out is its dim blue display panel, very comforting.

Bomb proof Storage!!

Pros: rock solid, plug and play, fireproof and waterproof of course
Cons: heavy and twice the size of normal hard drives
"I got this for all my digital photos at home. My friend is going to pick one of for his business.
This seems like such an obvious product. I wonder why something like this hasn't come out before now."
