really good

Pros: lasts a long time, tastes yummy, no waste, peace of mind, good recipes
"We bought this for peace of mind but also to use in our day to day living since we were wasting too much food. We are a family of just two people and a lot of fresh produce and meats were rotting in our fridge out of laziness to cook. When I brought home 3 different expired foods from our small local market, I gave up and ordered this and several other thrive combos. I love this food. You only make as much as you need and it lasts a whole year open! It tastes great and my husband who has always eaten like a bird, snarfles the recipes in this cookbook like it was gourmet food! So far we have tried the THRIVE peaches (finished the can), rice, potatoes, roast beef FD, sausage crumbles FD, bacon TVP (exactly like Bacos TM-best straight out of the can and not rehydrated), carrots, peas, corn, onions, mushrooms, orange yogurt bites(which we didn't rehydrate) , milk, butter, eggs, mixed red and bell peppers, chicken FD, cooked ground beef FD, egg noodles, corn meal and strawberries. I think that is it. We have been satisfied with all of it. As long as these products are available, I won't go back to fresh food. Please make more cookbooks, I'd "collect them all". Try the sweet and sour meatball recipe but don't try to make them round. Just scoop it on the rice. OH so good and an authentic recipe. Thanks COSTCO."

Great Investment

"Great thing to have around for the "What If's" product was shipped fast and a few cans had only a few very minor dents.
This is something that everyone should have."

Happy w/ shipping!

Pros: nice assortment of food.
Cons: no labeling on cans (paper labels only).
"We haven't tried the product yet, but cans were delivered on time and most were in great shape (a few were dented but no damage to product). I'm sure that if emergency conditions arrive...this stuff will taste like a gourmet meal."

Yes and No Review

Pros: easy to store good insurance against disasters.
Cons: soy and corn may be genetically modified products
"I ordered this product as an insurance policy against natural disaster and it arrived quickly and as described. But it wasn't until after I ordered the 6 month supply that I emailed the company and questioned their use of soy products usage, especially in their "Meat" products. They could not guarantee that their soy products did not come from Genetically modified sources. Since 90% of US soy and corn come form non-GMO sources, that didn't surprise me. So I would suggest that the vegetable sources are fine, but look for other real meal freeze dried products over GMO-soy-I-wanna-be - a - meat product."

Great Product for the Price

"Item was on my doorstep only 7 days after ordering and that included a weekend. All items arrived in perfect condition. Surprisingly the 9 boxes did not take up as much room as i had anticipated. We've eaten Thrive food before and are happy with the products. Shipping is included in the price. Price per can is amazing!"

not completely accurate description

Pros: quick and easy way to stock up emergency food
Cons: maybe better buy this brand's meat&veg separately
"Living in earthquake country, I felt we needed emergency food. I purchased the 6 month shelf reliance because the description listed a shelf life of 25 to 30 years and so wouldn't have to worry about replacing supplies for a long time.
I was disappointed that some of the items have a 5 to 10 year shelf life. This is especially disappointing when all the meat TVP is only 10 years shelf life when i thought it was going to be at least 25 years.
Here's the list with the shelf life as listed on the can:
2 cans pancake 8 yr
2 macaroni 8yr
2 cornmeal 5yr
1 bell pepper 7yr
3 strawberry 25yr
2 brownie 20yr
2 beef tvp 10 yr
2 taco tvp 10yr
2 chicken tvp 10yr
3milk 25yr
2bacon tvp 10yr
carrot 8yr
2 green bean 25yr
2 broccoli 25yr
2 chocolate drink mix 25yr
1spinach 25yr
1lentils 30yr
1pinto 30yr
1 kidney bean 30yr
1 black beans 30yr
1 lima beans 30yr
2 peas 25yr
2 rice 30yr
2 corn 25yr
4 potato 25yr
2 mushroom 25yr
6 wheat 30yr"

a good supply of emergency food that is usable

"For emergency food storage back up, we are so pleased. Now that we have tested some of the Thrive products, having this food on hand for emergency storage gives peace of mind it will not go to waste if not needed for emergency food.
So far we have tried the peas, corn, strawberries and diced potatoes from this 3 month supply and are very happy with it!
We rehydrated the potato dices and browned in olive oil with a little salt and pepper. It was tasty all alone ...Made great fixins for an easy side dish to breakfast/brunch. I did not expect it to be so fresh tasting, and was so easy to prepare.
Now that I see what the freeze dried potatoes are like I can think of many uses for it. (not just easy hash-browns while Camping!) A full high calorie meal when mixed with scrambled eggs veggies and even a tastier treat when topped with cheddar cheese, salsa and sour cream. Fun to experiment with but in reality I will use my own home-grown potatoes for my every day cooking or fresh from the store (when the garden is not producing) and will save this potato product in unopened can for emergency storage. For the potatoes, "fresh" is a more economical choice for our family over this product, However, it is very nice and convenient not to peel and dice and cook for a long time to make the hash-browns of equal quality! I will be tempted to dig into the emergency supply.
The strawberries can be an economic factor especially for a couple or single person, because fresh strawberries don't keep well and usually are purchased in a large container. The freeze dried strawberries are tasty right out of the can for a snack! so far I have added them right out of the can to cereal and milk, reconstituted them in water & blended for flavoring a milkshake, made a cheese cake using recipe found right on the can. No, I guess cheese cake is not a necessary emergency food source but know that the strawberries wont go to waste whether there is an emergency or not. There is very little left after two months of opening the can and the remainder is still fresh tasting. I was pleasantly surprised with this item.
The peas hydrated well but I did over cook them the first time I tried to make them as a side dish. But I added them to a stew and they were very fresh tasting. Peas are also a winner.
The Corn also is very fresh tasting and is he texture of frozen corn. Very happy with it all so far.
I do plan to experiment with sealing up the remainder of an opened can in a glass canning jar using a vacuum sealer but nearly two months all the items we tried are still fresh when stored room temp in original can. 68-74 degrees at our house.
There are bits at bottom of cans that can be like powder, but no problems if used potato bits for mashed potatoes or a thickener for chowder or something else. The strawberry powder used for sauces etc.
Also much of them say it good for 25 years if sealed and 2 years if opened. times do vary with the different items. Keeping storage of 60 degrees is not easy for many families. So storing this product at 70 degrees might cut my own shelf life.
for the potato hashbrowns:
"1/4 cup serving" and 41 servings per can (35 calories each serving). This is small portion for a big appetite; 1/2-3/4 cups is closer to an actual portion you might make for yourself. So actual servings per can might vary depending on your own personal portion and calorie needs!
Although I haven't tried everything I am giving this purchase a 5 star because it is an ideal product for storage, preparation, convenience. The taste and texture better than expected for freeze dried food.
We received our order from Costco with rapid delivery, complete and in perfect condition. Thank you."
