really good machine

Pros: comes with all embroidery accessories, has dvd and booklet instructions, cord to upload internet designs (freebies online), comes with optional foot pedal (i never use tho), push button sewing, push button and side thread cutters, more feet than i ever use, 2nd spool pin, stitch guide on machine, well packaged
Cons: bobbin winding is slow, thread cutter inside needs regular cleaning, stitches aren't numbered in the display, some dec. stitches only for embroidery, 4x4 embroidery area limitation
Model Number: lb-6800
"I owned this machine for 9 grueling months, which is about the amount of time it takes for me to bring my $1200 babylock machine in for service. I wanted a machine that would embroider and have a few updated features.
I loved that it came with everything but the fabric to embroider so I could play with it straight out of the box.
There is a small learning curve between each machine but the one on this one was minimal. Any functional questions can be answered via the touchscreen as there are picture step by step instructions for loading the embroidery table and more.
I ran this baby ragged because I sew out of my home both professionally and for fun and then post tutorials on my .wordpress. blog.
Ultimately this machine developed a problem with the tension disks so I returned it to Costco for a cheerful refund and reordered the new one the same night. The replacement just arrived, 2 days after ordering.
If I had to I would buy it again, a 3rd time!"

Nice embroidery but poor sewing

Pros: does nice embroidery
Cons: doesn't sew a straight line, can't adjust presser-foot pressure, poor durability
"I am a very experienced seamstress and saw this machine as a way to try embroidery and get an updated sewing machine. I sew a lot of heavier, home decor fabrics. The presser-foot pressure on this machine is not adjustable, it automatically adjusts. The faster you sew, the harder it presses. When you slow down, it presses less. On a more bulky fabric, this has the result of squishing more or less fabric out the sides of the foot, changing the width of the seam allowance. It is impossible to sew a straight line! I have had the machine for two years and have already had to have it serviced, which costs over $100 at a Brother-authorized center, and have the soft plastic bobbin case replaced.
I have had to purchase another machine just for sewing and use this just for embroidery now. It is a real shame because I spent so much money on a machine with all kinds of bells and whistles that are useless since it sews so poorly. Brother should be ashamed of putting out something that does such a poor job of basic sewing.
The embroidery looks nice and it is great that you can connect it to your PC with the provided cable to use downloaded designs. It is easy to use and understand. I have not embroidered before so I can't compare it to anything else but the results looked very good and were easy to achieve."

I don't get it

Pros: automatic threader, 12 piece thread pack
"I purchased this mainly because of the rave reviews on the stitch quality of the machine. So this review is for sewing only. I'm an experienced sewer & have worked on many different types of machines. First the positives. I love the automatic threader. It saves so much time. I also love the fact that it comes with the 12 piece thread pack which saves you money.
Now the negatives, I had problems threading the bobbin, it wouldn't catch & it just kept spinning without winding the bobbin. I thought I did something wrong, so I looked at the manual & tried again. I was never able to wind the bobbin so I used my old machine to wind the bobbin so I can try out the sewing. I started to sew, and the machine was running quite smoothly & stitch quality was good. But I don't understand what the hype is about. The stitch quality was good but nothing spectacular to rave about.

Great purchase

Pros: ease of use. needle threader and cutter save time.
Cons: none
Model Number: Brother LB 6800 THRD
"I love this machine! Bought it based on the reviews and it did not disappoint. I haven't sewn in many years and this machine made it so easy to start again. I was using it within minutes after removing it from the box. The on screen help is great. Needle threader works well and the thread cutter is so handy. I haven't tried the embroidery yet but looking forward to that next."

Almost perfect

Pros: good value, poor quality embroidery thread, love the self threading feature.
Model Number: LB-6800THRD
"The machine works great. I really like the self-threading feature. Only problem is the embroidery thread spools that come with this have rough edges that the thread gets caught on which causes the needle to break in middle of work. I recommend buying good quality thread spools separately. Once I did that I had no problems. Was able to input a company logo and a cool design from the internet without additional software and it embroidered nice."

Great Machine!

Model Number: LB-6800THRD
"I've been sewing for over 40 years. I purchased this machine for a fun thing to do. It is a great value and does a terrific job too!
II was purchased to use for embroidery, I have enlarged the butterfly and used a solid color and also a varigated color and both came out beautiful. I also have embroidered my name on several t-shirts. I would recommend this machine.

LOVE IT!

Pros: good entry level home project machine
Cons: can only save 12 extra graphics to machine
Model Number: LB6800-THRD
"I have been looking for a good embroidery machine at a good price, THIS IS THE ONE! There is a bit of a learning curve, but if I can do it, anyone can! I have already made several really nice projects. I will say I haven't been successful embroidering on a flour sack towel, or a tea towel, but on regular fabrics, super.
They do recommend 'ibroidery' as a source for extra graphics, but they CANNOT be saved to the machine, you have to save them on your computer and download them every time. And the graphics cannot be 4" x 4", close but ... so some of the grapics they recommeded for this machine, and I purchased, will not work.
I would also recommend buying the large hoop ... purchased seperately from a different source.

Beautiful embroidery

Pros: usb port., very easy to follow directions., beautiful embroidery., reasonable price.
Cons: none so far.
Model Number: LB6800thrd
"Very easy to use after reading the directions and watching the CD. Beautiful embroidery. Easy to program. No problems at all. Embroidered a baby quilt the same day that I got the machine. Had been wanting an embroidery machine but didn't want to pay the high prices. This is a great machine that sews and embroiders for a reasonable price."

Really happy!

Pros: easy set up (must read instructions though), an amazing value for all you get, embroidery is a blast!, lots of built-in sewing stitches, quiet
Cons: built in embroidery patterns are pretty lame
Model Number: LB-6800THRD
"I upgraded my very old seeing machine and decided on this one because of the awesome reviews and the embroidery intrigued me. The sewing machine part is a very nice upgrade from my old machine. It's smooth and uses a few new features that I didn't even know existed as my other machine is 16 years old. (I've been sewing for 25 years.) All in all, it's a fairly basic, very nice machine that is a pleasant upgrade to the technology of even 10 years ago.
You do have to read the manual. Yes, even you experienced sewers! Don't blame the machine if you didn't take the time to learn how to do it. I broke a needle right off the bat because I didn't get the thread cap on snug enough and the top thread would around the rod.
To my surprise, what I'm enjoying the absolute most is the embroidery! The pre-loaded design are nothing to be excited about for sure (sorry, just not my style.) But, I've already downloaded some from the internet and they stitch beautifully! (you'll need the PES format, and a computer; mac or pc) I found a ton of freebies, and a bunch of low-cost designs too. The most absolute generous site I've discovered so far is Bunnycup Embroidery. Lots of variety, (though most are children-oriented,) amazing prices, a bargain bin, and an almost ridiculous amount of freebies.
Overall, I feel like I got a LOT for my money with this versatile machine!"

Great Sewing Machine & Easy to Use!

Model Number: LB-6800THRD
"I've never used a sewing machine but I wanted to make some pillow covers and tailor some of my dresses that were too short and jeans that were too long. When the box arrived I was intimidated by all the parts and shininess but the instructional videos were really helpful and reading the manual - though tedious like all manuals- really helped. I started sewing in about an hour and its been easy peasy ever since!"

Great machine, simple to use.

Model Number: LB-6800THRD
"My wife bought this machine, and I had never done any sewing before, and had to try. It was simple and fun. We had the kid spool up the bobbins. The embroidery is easy to use, but with many colors, it is a chore to replace the thread every time. At least it threads automatically. Works like a charm. Downloaded a million embroidery designs from the net for free, and it was easy to download to machine. Now kids have butterflys and airplanes on a lot of clothes, sometimes covering up a stitched hole.
You have to have very limited skills if you have any problems with this as I see some reviews have."

So far so good!

Pros: very smooth action quiet easy to set up.
Cons: it would be nice if the presser foot lifted high, the price was only $10 cheaper than walmart., the manual is a third inch thick-but necessary.
"I haven't used any of the extra features, only straight sewing and it's a great machine-quiet, smooth and I love the threader-super simple. I had the Singer Brilliance (3 actually), the threader was complex enough I just threaded by hand. I returned the Brilliance because of shoddy workmanship.
This Brother was quite a step above Singer's machine, though it was also nearly triple the price.
Once I use the other features I'll be checking in again. The UPS delivery person saw the box and was excited, decided to buy one for herself! I told her it was on sale (came out to the regular price due to tax) so snap one up while she could."

Easy to use Embroidery Machine

"This is the first embroidery machine I have ever owned. It is so easy to use just following the manual and/or the dvd that accompanies the machine. So much embroidery thread is included so you can start using it right away."
