Value tub - know what you're buying

Pros: cheaper than premium models, low cost filters, good air blower, cover decent quality, costco return policy
Cons: low power jets, poor filtration, fit and finish not the best, requires a 4-wire connection (not usual), not that much cheaper than premium brands, bulky for size of tub, you'll pay an installer to move it to your site
Model Number: Magnum
"This was my first hot tub - I spent time comparing "high end" tubs costing several thousand more with this model, and honestly couldn't see much of a difference, so went with the Evolution Magnum.
Once it's installed and you start to get used to it, you notice that the fit and finish isn't great - the waterfall had plastic stuck in it that affected flow, some jets didn't close properly or would fall out, and the air diverters would barely do anything.
The jets are fun, but very weak compared to premium models (although the air injector is very high powered comparatively).
After 10 months of ownership I've had problems with the heater failing a couple of times, and I decided to take Costco up on their (excellent) return policy and send the tub back on the most recent failure.
Worth noting:
1. "Test soak" in premium tubs. If you don't mind the difference in jets power, don't worry about it.
2. The filter bay is badly designed, such that the waterfall blocks flow into it. Turn off the waterfall when notice in use.
3. The filters are CHEAP - making it far easier to throw away rather than clean (premium brand filters are 4-5x the price).
4. Note that most electricians are used to a 3-wire hot tub install, and this needs four. No big deal, but caught my guy off guard ;)
All in all, it's not bad, but to me the extra money for the "premium" product is worth it. Your mileage may vary :)"

Research thoroughly before you buy

Pros: good mfg'r support, solid costco support, decent mid-level tub
Cons: sketchy fit/finish, no differences in jets
"This is decent spa. I can't speak poorly about it, but it's probably not the spa you'd buy if you ever owned one before. Multiple jets, but they are essentially all the same, even the larger faced ones. They are simple bullet jets, and each one is exactly the same, regardless of appearance. (Aside from the air jets in the foot/leg positions). I had a few issues with the fit/finish of the tub, and the blower motor making a loose-bearing noise. A poorly assembled cover. The manufacturer was quick to respond. I give them much credit for their attentiveness. Alas, after 5 separate issues, I had to call it quits. And Costco was on top of it all, as usual. Bottom line is this...if you want a mid-level tub which seems like a one-trick pony, and want solid manufacturer and Costco support, this is the tub for you."

cover lifter?

"I recently purchased this spa and have been more than happy. I called strong spa to determine the best cover lifter and they recommend an under mount lifter. Unfortunately my spa sits on pea gravel and this lifter slides under the spa which is not the best unless you are on a concrete slab. I purchased a side mount lifter which they advertise as "fits nearly all spas". Well, it does not fit this spa because the shell is not wide enough for the mounting plates due to the removable panels. Has anyone found success with a different model that is not under mount? Any input would help. Thanks."

Excellent Value SPA

Pros: great value, full featured
Cons: inadequate ozonator, poorly insulated
Model Number: Evolution Spas (STRONG) Magnum90
"I purchased this SPA almost a year ago adn am very pleased with it. I was hesitant to purchase sight unseen but it worked out very well. The delivery process was flawless. I arranged for the delivery crew to move the SPA to my backyard and place it on the pad I had prepared (additional modest fee paid to the delivery crew). Since this SPA was a replacement fro a SPA of the same dimensions, spotting was a no-brainer and I had the electrical hookup completed, the SPA filled, and heated in no time at all.
A few days after placing the SPA in service, some of the lights stopped working. I called STRONG SPAS and they immediately shipped the required repair parts and dispatched a local repairman to correct the problem. No repeat of the failure to date.
I am very pleased with the way the SPA operates. It meets all of my requirements and I use it every day. I can have a Las Vegas experience with loads of moving water, air bubbles and flashing lights everywhere - or - I can turn everything off and sit and relax in comfort of total peace and quiet. It took a while to figure out what all the knobs and buttons do, but now I know. The design of this SPA allows the user to easily customize his/her hot water experience.
I noticed right away that a big part of why this SPA is priced so low is that there is almost no insulation inside the cabinet. My previous SPA was filled completely with foam. I suspect this fact will result in a higher cost of operation but it saved me a ton of money on purchase price and it doesn't get that cold in San Diego. There are other little things that look and feel cheap, but that goes with the territory when you buy a bargain priced SPA. I can live with it and be very happy.
The one cost cutting measure I cannot live with is the wimpy little ozone generator it came with. It is not even close to being up to the job of sanitizing this large SPA so I had to resort to adding granulated clorine on a regular basis to keep the water clear. I hate to add chemicals so I recently hired a local SPA serviceman to remove the under-sized coronoa discharge ozone generator and replace it with a full sized ultraviolet lamp based ozone generator coupled to a full time recirculating pump. This was not inexpensive, but, for me, it was worth increasing the cost of the SPA by a little over 10%. I also use a Silver-ion cartridge in the filter cavity. I now have 24/7 sanitizing system and will no longer be adding any chemical to my SPA.
I'd make the decision to buy this SPA again, knowing what I know after using it for a year. I recommend this SPA and COSTCO to anyone who will listen."

Great Purchase

"We purchased this Spa 1 year ago for our Christmas gift and it has been absolutely awesome! We didn't really want to purchase online site unseen but after going to the Spa stores and comparing the price and value we ordered it. We made a couple of calls to Evolution Spa's tech support for some minor questions and they are absolutely wonderful and very helpful. I would highly recommend this Spa"

"I was a little leary about purchasing sight unseen. However,I trusted Costco and they did not let me down. I have had my spa for 4 months. Its awesome 110 jets of pure heaven. I am 55 years old and I live for coming home at night and getting into this spa. I have over the years had many spas, but this is the Rolls Royce of spas. YOU WONT REGRET IT. Costco customer service will keep you calm while its being shipped. The whole experience has been beyond my expectations."

Low quality

Pros: cheaper then others for "90 jets"
Model Number: Magnum 90-jet
"Don't be fooled by the high number of jets. half of them are cold air. I would say only the large back jets and the ones on the legs in the lounger you can actually feel. The jets in the foot well are weak.
Mine leaked when more than 2 people were in the tub although I had the tub filled to the correct water level. Leak came from around the water fall and dripped right onto the electric board. At least the GFI works because the tub instantly shut down. The company would not service it for over 3 weeks. I ended up returning the unit. Thank you Costco very much!
Connectionsfor the plumbing are not insulated."

Beware of Customer Service

Cons: limited customer service hours
Model Number: 90 jet - 6 person
"The spa arrived and was easy to set up. We enjoyed it for about 2 weeks and then we started having an error message that there was inadequate water or poor flow in the system. We called customer service and a local technician was sent out. The local service technician contracted manufacturer was great and he figured out what needed to be fixed right away. It was a little troubling to learn from the customer service dept that many other new spa owners have had the same problem. Sounds like they are now re-configuring the water flow to deal with this problem. We waited a week for new parts to arrive. Then we waited another week for an appointment with the local service technician to fix our water flow problem. Unfortunately when the local technician arrived he immediately discovered that the parts he requested were not in the box! So now we will wait another week for parts to come from the East coast, once I get a hold of them tomorrow because it was after 5 PM EST and their office is closed. Living on the West coast it has been a bit of a problem getting a hold of customer service dept because they are only open until 5 PM EST (2 PM PST). West Coast residents - should try to schedule service calls in the morning because help is not available after 2 PM. Perhaps if they are going to sell spas nationwide they should prolong their service hours? Not sure I would buy another spa from this company at this point. It has been over a month and our brand new spa is still not working the way it should."

Excellent Hot Tub

Model Number: Evolution Spas™ Magnum 90-jet, 6-person Spa
"This was an excellent experience. I purchased my first hot tub about 25 years ago and so came into this purchase with some notions about what to look for. The process of buying it online worked fine, the people that Costco had deliver the tub were on time, and after getting everything hooked up - the tub is working perfectly. We did buy the additional spa cover holder that will keep the cover from resting on the ground while using the tub. This piece of hardware works well also."

Excellent

Model Number: Magnum 90-jet
"We live in Northern California and bought this hot tub last year. We previously had an older CalSpa and WOW, what a jump this one was. Love it. Lights are cool. Kids like the fountain effect, I like the jets. There are jets EVERYWHERE. At first is was kind of annoying and then I figured out you could turn each and every jet head off! We all have our jets set to the volume and locations we like. Exterior is great. Excellent choice. Great company to deal with (freight carrier lost steps and Evolution Spas sent out a replacement right away)."

Great Spa and Easy Set Up

Pros: easy installation, easy to maintain, quality craftsmanship, beautiful design
Cons: pumps turn off after 15 min
Model Number: Evolution Spa 90 Jet Magnum
"We bought this spa in March after extensive research of local Spa dealers and other online Spas available via Costco. Set up was very easy. Hired an Electrician to install electrical box and set up spa. Once spa was filled with water at 66 degrees, it took about 6 hours to get temperature up to 100 degrees. We enjoyed it that evening and have been pleasantly surprised that it has not raised our electrical bill very much due to the insulation surrounding the Spa to keep temperature within 10 degrees. We use the Economy setting and have been very satisfied with the temperature control of the water. The many jets can be adjusted to your personal preference and we use the Bubbler Option to cool the spa when the water seems a bit too hot. Overall, very satisfied!!!"

Great Spa, Excellent Lighting, Fantastic Purchase

Pros: led lighting, mini waterfall, lounger seat, ease of cleaning filter, 90 jets, air jets
Cons: having to modify one of the push-levers, lack of instructions for proper water care, lack of more in-depth manual spa owner
Model Number: Magnum 90
"Bought this spa after spending countless hours reviewing Costco.com and various other website. The Spa was on Sale and I decided to take the plunger. Had a new power panel installed and was ready to go in time for delivery. It was here in just over 3 weeks.
Being a first time Spa owner, it looked to be of high quality. The one thing I did not like was the lack of instructions for general chemical care for a first time owner. There are so many different types of chemicals, clarifiers, and various other terms that one needs to become acquainted with. There are so many websites that offer their own advice, but information from the manufacturer would'e been nice.
Once I learned how to become acquainted with it, we filled it up and turned it on. It was ready in about 8 hours, when the water was initially about 62-65 degrees. Once its heated up, it cycles twice a day for 2 hours each to filter the water.
The Spa has 2 separate pumps, each controlling one side of the Spa. Each has a low and a high setting. In addition, there is the "Option" button which turns on air jets that creates bubbles. While its an exciting option to turn on, I don't use it every time, but its a great invigorating experience and also helps you cool down when you get too hot.
I find that 98 degrees is the perfect relaxation temperature, as it allows me to be in there for a long time. 101-102 is extremely hot, and one has to consume a lot of water, but its great for "sweating out" and "detoxing" the body.
I was worried that the power wouldn't be strong enough, but it most certainly is. After about 10 minutes its almost too strong, so I leave it on high and turn down the strength. See, you have two ways to turn it down. One can turn down each individual jet, by turning it left or right. If you have one spot on your back that is sensitive, you can reduce the intensity of that one jet. One also can move the handles to restrict water to one seat, so its less powerful if you like it.
One of the best things my partner and I enjoy is is the ambient lighting. You can leave it on its default setting, where it continuously changes from color to color, or you can just leave it on one color. The red and purple lights certainly make for a relaxing and enjoyable environment.
The customer service has been great! There was one issue, but I called customer service and they already knew about the problem and gave me a fix. It required me to cut part of a white clip which held open a lever underneath the Spa, and shorten its length. They changed pumps on this model, and it was letting too much water in the heater so the spa kept turning off because it was getting air in the lines. I'm not too technical, but the fix worked, and I kept the e-mail from them ensuring that it won't harm my system. I was told that many people have had the same problem, but this did fix it.
The Spa is great, high quality, and I'm hoping it will bring us many years of enjoyment. We've been in it about 5 times a week and live in Sunny SoCal. Great investment....... now here's to waiting to see what our power bil will be like ;) On that note, it is insulated very well, and only drops a few degrees in 24 hours. The designers did a great job, and I'm proud of our investment. Hydrotherapy never felt this good.
Ability to turn down individual jet's power, or also a seat's water pressure."

Review total cost of ownership first

Model Number: Evolution Spas™ Magnum 90-jet, 6-person Spa
"I'm a huge fan of Costco but this experience has been a complete disaster. First, like one of the other reviewers, they shipped the wrong spa. I called the spa company and they gave me a crummy attitude (yes it was Friday afternoon-I don't care) Their response was a curt-Call Costco-not our problem. Yes it is their problem when their supply chain can't ship the right product. If you don't have an existing spa and power at your location, please understand it may be a lower TCO to buy local and have them run power and pour the slab. Those two items alone cost me $1500 on top of the cost of the spa. The spa is nice but one more than one occasion I've gotten the "dry" readout meaning that water is not making it into the pumps and as a safety precaution it shuts down-meaning when after a long day at work dealing with vendors like this, I can't get into my spa because its cooled off to a lovely 90 degrees. Thanks but I'll take a warm shower instead-it's hotter. Can't wait to see the look on the local Costco's face when I drop it off-curbside and ask for a refund."

Extremely Pleased

Pros: seating arrangement, lounger, multitude of jets, air injection system, lights, waterfall, customer support, quality of materials used
Cons: lounger location, placement of interior steps
Model Number: Magnum 90
"Like others, I was skeptical about buying a hot tub over the Internet site unseen. However, the layout and other features, including the air injector system, were just what I was looking for so I decided to make the purchase after readng the customer reviews and knowing Costco would stand behind what they sold. Since I've had a hot tub for 20 years, I initially wasn't going to pay to have the tub filled by the installer, but decided to do so and was glad, because it turned out the control panel didn't work. I was able to get a tech from Evolution on the phone with the installer immediately (mid day Saturday) and they was able to diagnose the problem. A replacement part was shipped immediately and the intsaller came back within a week to replace the defective part. My new hot tub is now up and fully operational! Luckily, I had a long standing relationship with my hot tub service company (Hot Tub Specialists) and they were able to leave me a loaner control panel until the replacement came in. They subsequently installed the replacement panel as part of the warranty free of charge. I abolutely love everything about my new spa - there's 2 sets of jets (2 speeds each) and an air injection system (that I had on my previous tub which is't offered with many new models). The air injection system make the "bubbles". I also enjoy the fiber optic lighting system and waterfall which add a lot of ambiance at night. One word of caution - I ordered the optional spa cover lift (which I absolutely recommend) but didn't realize until after the tub was filled that you had to slide the base underneath before the tub was filled - so I did it twice. The directions for the spa cover lift weren't all that clear, but I was able to muddle through and get it installed. It's an absolute must to get - it makes putting the cover on and off 100% easier and also provides an added level of privacy. The only negatives I can think of are the alignment of the exterior steps with the interior steps and the not having the option to place the lounger in a different spot. Other than that, I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase and would recommend this model to anyone looking for a good quality spa which easily support 5 adults comfortably. Love it!!"

Another satisfied customer

Pros: no complaints
Model Number: Magnum90
"Bought the Magnum90 back in Sept2010. We are very happy with this spa. It arrived in the normal expected time. The delivery was to a spot the delivery service could back to but we had to make our own arrangements for moving it around to the back deck area and in place (this was expected so no surprises there). The lounger pillow had a small rip at the attach point on the back of it but one quick phone call to Evolution and we had a replacement in a few days at no cost...top-of-the-line customer service!!! After a cleaning and fresh re-fill, it easily heats back to temperature overnight. Easy access to all parts inside via the pop-off panels. Thumbs up to Costco and Evolution Spas!"

My Best Spa Yet

Pros: 90 jets, air injection, jet placement, price, outer shell design, service
Cons: only one filter
Model Number: Evolution Spas™ Magnum 90-jet
"This is my fourth hot tub and I absolutely love it. I got rid of a top rated spa to purchase this and the Magnum 90 is much nicer. My first spa had air injection and I have missed it ever since. When I saw this spa had the air injection I started doing my research. I decided to purchase the spa, but I was worried that I was making such a large purchase over the internet. I had no idea what to expect for service. My concern was put to the test as one of my motors failed a few weeks after it arrived. I know that no company has control over this, so I gave them a call to see how their service was. I got a prompt response and they had a few things they wanted me to try before they dispatched someone to fix it. I called back to inform them that none of their suggestions worked. They promptly called me back with the name and number of the company that was going to service my spa. The repairs were made and everything is great. I was very satisfied with their service. I hope this puts to rest any anxiety that anyone may have concerning the service of this product. As for the overall use and functionality of this spa, I like it much better than my previous spa... and the Magnum 90 is1/2 the cost."

disappointed

Model Number: magnum 90
"After pondering for months on this model and reading all of the positive reviews we finally ordered and received our tub.
The tub is attractive, seems to be well built.
but the design of the vector air system makes no sense. After talking to the manufacturer, this is the design of the spa. It uses the cabinet air to heat the air pump so the water hitting you is about 20 degrees colder. You have little spots of cold water hitting you. Also the high setting on the jets is inadequate for true therapy. I'm very thankful for Costco's return policy right now. But disappointed it didn't work for us.

R U worried about buying a hot tub over the web?

Pros: seating layout., overall good design & performance, factory warranty support
Cons: neck jets are just ok (but use lounger - better), storage steps not waterproof.
Model Number: Magnum 90 with Crestwood
"Are you worried about buying a hot tub over the internet? I was too. And what about the Evo brand. - would it be good quality, fit, warranty and support? So I went to a dealer who carries similar tubs made by the parent company and decided to... well... take the plunge.
Went with the Magnum after considering lounger or not, jet strength, etc. This configuration is very good with several options for cool down and deep soaking alike. Plus this variety makes it comfortable for different sized people - although i could see that larger or tall people may not fit as well. And although the lounger reduces seating capacity, it actually increases foot well space.
As for the jets, very solid performance with the air diverters open and pumps on high. I read other opinions about the 4KW heater. Well, it heated water from around 50 to 102 degrees in about 8 hours (20 degree weather).
I went with the Crestwood cabinet - did not personally care for the stone look. Ordered the spa "sure lift" from Costco and is working out well (the removable panels provide great access to interior but affect the use of some cover lifters on the market).
Big concern was the curbside delivery. This ended up not a big deal. I tipped the delivery guys to move it to the back yard and had landscapers move into position when they finished their work.
If you are buying this just for the neck jets in the captain seats, you may be disappointed. However, I've found you can get good neck and shoulder therapy in the lounger.
Although I've had some issues (nothing major), the factory support has been accessible and very responsive.
BTW - there is a TV show called "the Middle". If you watch the episode with the stranger in the hot tub, this looks like the exact model. (be ready with the pause button though - it isn't on for long)"

Worth every $

Model Number: Magnum 90
"I decided to purchase the Magnum 90 after reading all of the reviews. Like others, I was a bit hesitant to purchase a spa site unseen, but decided to take the plunge when it went on sale. I ordered it on Dec. 18th, and it arrived on January 5th. I had it located and electrical connected by that evening, and flushed and filled the following evening. We were enjoying it by the following evening! This is my first spa, and I did everything on my own. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. The spa seems to be very well insulated, and the heater works quite well. We're in MI, and it maintains 103-104 F even when using it in 10-15 degree temps! The jets have plenty of power, the lights are just right, construction/layout is nice."
