Whynter 21-bottle Wine Cooler

This Whynter Dual Temperature Zone wine cooler offers premium quality and sophisticated design. It allows for 21 bottles of wine storage capacity; 6 bottles in the top zone and 15 bottles in the bottom zone with vibration-free thermoelectric cooling. Many wine coolers use a compressor to provide the cooling function which generates vibrations that can easily disrupt the delicate sediments in fine wine. With the thermoelectric system, your wine is kept at the appropriate temperature and humidity levels without damaging vibrations. This cooling system has no moving parts and is CFC-free, which means that you get silent, long-lasting, and environmentally safe refrigeration for your collection. The WC-211DZ features a sleek stainless steel door trim with an ergonomic towel bar handle glass door. The removable luxurious stainless steel racks in the unit allow you to display and store your wine collection as desired. Budget price, premium performance

Pros: design, dual zone, temperature stability
Cons: capacity
Model Number: Whynter WC-211DZ
"Still can't believe the great prices on costco sometimes. This is not a thousand dollar wine cellar, but it sure looks like one. The design is great. The stainless shelves give it the perfect finish. The shelves fit white wines fine and can be removed to make space for bubbly or wider reds. It's designed to be freestanding but I have plenty of clearance from the back of my unit so it ventilates in cabinent no problems. I'd say give it about 5" from the back to be comfortable. excellent value all around."

So far so good...

Pros: dual-zone, easy assembly, good temp control, quiet, quick delivery
Cons: doesn't fit magnums, shelves don't slide well
"I've had this wine fridge for about a month. So far I've been extremely happy with it. It arrived more quickly than I expected. It assembled/installed quickly (didn't even have to use the leveling legs). The temperature controls are working well.
My only complaint, thus far, is that the shelves don't slide as easily as I'd like. They're pretty clunky. Not a deal breaker though.
Also, magnum bottles don't really fit. You can fit *one* per shelf diagonally if you remove the shelf above it. Bummer, since I prefer buying magnums when possible to save money. Again, not a deal breaker. Wider style 750ml bottles fit just fine when you alternate directions.
Overall, I'm satisfied with this dual-temp wine fridge.
Note: I've never owned any other wine fridge, so I have no comparison."

Heed the warnings from other reviews.

"I thought I might get lucky with getting a cooler that would work. Wrong!!!
Purchased in July 2011, it broke down in February 2012.
Worked great for the first few months. Then it broke down like the others.
The rubber gasket is too thick. Requires you to push it in while trying to slide out the rack. Not a problem if you can open the door 180 degrees.
The fans do stay on all the time. Though not that loud, it does become apparent that you are running electricity 24/7.
This cooler was a big disappointment in the end."

Look Nice, but upper portion never reach 44F

"It look nice, compact narrow shape, hold 21 regular bottles. However, the upper portion never reach 44F. Upper and lower thermostat only go down to 50F. Need upper portion goes down to 44F... Returning to Costco.."

You get what you pay for

"During initial assembly, I dioscovered that the unit is missing one of the four supporting pegs. Called Costco on-line staff and they were very supportive and quick to contact manufacturer to order the missing part. All in all, that would be a minor inconvenience if not for the actual performance of the coller. I was expecting fairly quite performance as it is thermal electric (no compressor) design. However, I learned that there are two cooling fans that never turn off (even when the fridge is at a temperature set point). These fans make constant noticable humming noise that I found quite annoying. The shelves are flimsy and rub against the isolating gasket on the door (even when the door is 90 degrees open) to the point that I had to use two hands: one to pull the gasket away and the second to slide out the shelf. Needless to say, I had to return the coller back to the store."

Worked For A Year

Model Number: WC-211DZ
"Bought this in November of 2010 and it worked fine until December 2011. The temperature read out for the lower shelf started burning out. I have replaced the temperature control twice and the lower shelf now has a reading of 50 degrees and I have it set for 60. The upper shelf temperature works fine. Whynter wants me to return it to them but after 6 months I threw packing out, They don't provide a shipping box and want me to pay to ship it back. They also have very strict conditions on how and how fast you have to return it by. As long as you only want it to work for a year then buy it. Also, note other reviews with same problem."

Nice while it lasted

Pros: number of bottles it holds, looks nice enough
Cons: warranty covers shipping only 1st 2 months, malfunctioned -- cannot keep temperature
"The Whynter 21 worked OK for most of the first year. It looks nice enough and 21 bottles is a more than enough number of bottles to have handy. About 2 weeks before the warranty expired the temperature started fluctuating in the lower zone (the one with the most space) and it now does not go above 44 degrees--too cold for any red wine. The led screen for the upper zone has lost a few of the lights and it is hard to tell what the temperature is in the upper zone. While this cooler has a 1 year warranty you are on your own for the shipping of this 40-45 lb box to the manufacturer after the first 2 months of the 1 year. Needless to say that you needed to have kept the original packing or have access to packing and a box large enough for it."

Bottom part doesn't go above 62

"Dissatisfied so far. The top part stays at the temperature I set (52), but the bottom I keep trying to bring to 65, but it won't go above 62. I am going to call Costco to see if they'll replace, because the red is just a bit too cold for my liking."

Very smart wine cooler

Pros: dual zone, cold, stylish
Model Number: Whynter WC-211DZ
"Works nicely in our bar area. Stores 21 bottles ok. If you need to put in larger bottles, you should remove some shelves as needed. Is able to cool down to about 50-58F depending on how warm your area is. Dual zone and stainless steel door at this price is a huge plus."

Dual control is the way to go

Pros: # of bottles it holds
Cons: bottles packed tight
"This wine cooler is compact, yet hold 21 bottles, is sharp looking enough to be placed near our dining area, and holds the temperature in both chambers at a constant setting. We like it !"

Good value; attractive

Pros: attractive cooler, costco's unbeatable customer service
Cons: had to reorder
"We bought this as a gift for my son. We had to re-order once because the first one arrived damaged - as if it were hit hard causing large ridge on the top of the cooler. The cooler had been packed extremely well and the box did not show any signs of damage. The second wine cooler arrived in perfect condition. It's very attractive in the dining room. Kudos to Costco for helping me get a seond wine cooler in perfect condition."

Whynter Wine Cooler

Pros: fast delivery price point is good for size of uni
Cons: temp control not so good, damaged on delivery that should have been detected
Model Number: 21 bottle Wynter Cooler
"The first one I received was damaged. It was shipped from the factory that way since none of the packaging was damaged when I opened it. Wouldn't normally order it again since I felt if their quality control is such that they fail to make such a basic check, what might I be faced with on internal workings. I re ordered anyway. The temps seem to take forever to settle in at the lower levels (especially when I place more wine bottles in the cooler (temps go up immediately even though I close the door quickly and check for a good seal). Jury out on whether I will keep it. I will see if temps settle down and if the energy consumption is reasonable."

Good But Drawers Are 2 Small

Pros: duel zone is awesome, compact size
Cons: can't get bottles in and out easily
"Bought this in 09-2011 mainly because of the dual temps (I keep my white and big beer bottles up top at 44 deg while my reds are below at 56 deg). Simple set up. I used a portable electricity meter to determine it's going to cost about $13/mo to run. The only (and considerable) downside that I have found is that the distance between the sliding drawers is too little. It's difficult to get bottles in and out as they will hit the drawer above them. I have to work the bottles underneath the drawer above. It's strange because all they would have had to do is add maybe 1/4 in to the distance beween the drawers and it would have been perfect."

Excellent Wine Cabinet

Pros: design, temperature control
Cons: rear venting
Model Number: WC-211DZ
"Super fast shipping. Received it quick and intact. I'm storing mostly standard sized cabs in it, but the racks are fully removeable making it easy to store bubbly too! It looks fantastic. Accurate and fast cooling. Top notch product."

Undecided still

Pros: costco makes returns easy
Cons: can't get an undamaged unit
"Just ordered this item for the 5th time. It comes damaged everytime. I don't think it is UPS that is doing the damage as the box and protective foam is not damaged.
This item fits what I am looking for so I keep trying and I hope it does what want when I finally get it but getting it seems to be a huge problem."

Work as advertised

Pros: sleek modern design, vibration-free, very quiet (can't hear any noise even at night)
Cons: none so far
Model Number: WC-211DZ (Whynter 21 Bottle Wine Cooler Vibration-Free Thermoelectric Cooling)
"Had this for 2 weeks now. It blends in beautifully with all other stainless steel appliances & runs quiet. Setup involves balancing the 4 adjustable legs and screwing the handle in place. To play safe, I unpacked the cooler and let it sit overnight (instruction recommends 2hrs) to stabilize internal components and let it acclimate to room temperature. Wife loves it and decided to place it in the kitchen instead of my study. Note: Will need about 6 inches of clearance for door opening in order to slide out trays."

Gorgeous wine cooler

Pros: quality, deisgn
Model Number: WC-211DZ
"This is a great looking wine cooler that has thick heavy stainless steel doors. Very nicely built and the dual zone is fun to use. Still can't get over how nice it is for this price.
I got this thermoelectric specifically for the vibration-free operation. I had several wines ruined before when a old cork slowly disintegrated over time when I stored it in a compressor based unit.
It fits Pinots or any type of 750ml wines, but if needed I can remove the shelves to store a limited number of champagnes.
Very good value purchase. Thumbs up."

Good choice

Pros: silent, stable temp, convenient size
Cons: shelves don't slide very smoothly
"Shipping was quick. The packaging easily withstood the rigors of ground delivery - double boxed with styrofoam padding. The temp control seems to hold the temp right on. Nearly silent operation once it reaches temp, a little more noise when it first starts up. Larger bottles will only fit on lowest shelves of either section, but they will. Shelves don't slide in and out smoothly, most have to be jiggled back and forth, I'm going to try pam or wax. Sized right for airflow to operate in available undercounter space when removing old trash compactor, just don't seal it in."
