Good multipurpose design

Pros: multi-tasking appliance, super easy clean-up
Cons: waffle plates are extra and expensive!
Model Number: GRID-8NPC
"The removable plates are AWESOME! Cool them, pop them out, rinse and into the dishwasher. Makes cleanup a breeze.
I was looking for something to replace my George Foreman Grill...I love it, but cleanup is a pain. This does the job almost as well with a slight slope to the grill plates, but it's much easier to clean. The bonus is I can get rid of my big griddle also! We're downsizing, working toward the empty nest and don't need the big appliances anymore. The panini sandwich function is great also, as long as the sandwich isn't too thick. Yes there are some limitations, but overall it's a great multipurpose design. Easily prepares meals for 2-4.

Cuisinart Griddle

Pros: versatile with grill and griddle tops, non-stick
Cons: bulky
"This was a gift to our married daughter. We have had ours for year and love the product. Great for Panini sandwiches, steaks, pancakes, eggs, and bacon. Very versatile kitchen tool. Our daughter's first experience was grilling a salmon filet. She was elated at the outcome."

great purchase

Pros: rapid even cooking
Cons: unnecessary knobs.
Model Number: Cuisinart Griddler
"Three knobs are a bit much but other than that this griddle/grill works wonderfully. Food cooks rapidly and evenly and I love the fact that it cooks both sides at the same time!"

Works, but Strange User Interface

Pros: well constructed nice looking, performs as advertised, removable plates are dishwasher safe, folds open flat to make a large cooking surface
Cons: redundant temperature control knobs are confusing, optional waffle plates are not yet bundled, stainless top can get very hot during use
Model Number: GRID-8NPC
"Bought this in the Costco store the other day, having been on my "someday maybe" shopping list for about a year and having used Griddlers (both old version and current version) at friends' houses.
The version I picked up has metal tabs which hold the plates in, no plastic. The drip tray is integral and cleverly slides in from the side to catch grease out the back. The plates slope somewhat towards the drip opening. The heating elements now have much more even coverage. The top is brushed stainless, and the base is matte silver heat-resistant plastic. Overall, it seems well constructed.
The control layout is just strange. I don't know what Cuisinart was thinking... not only is it confusing, but it just costs extra to manufacture. It must be just to look "more versatile" when you see it on the shelf. See, the main ON-OFF-ON knob select Griddle or Grill/Panini. Then you use the appropriate temperature knob to set the thermostat (in Degrees for Griddle, or Warm/Low/Med/Hi/Sear for Grill/Panini). Sear equates to 400F on the other knob, so Griddle mode can go to 450F. That's it... no magic to it. This could have all been done with ONE KNOB that goes from "OFF" to 450F... I guess it wouldn't have looked as impressive. They could have at least configured the unit to control top/bottom plates separately with the two temperature knobs... now that would have actually increased the functionality of the device.
There are Waffle plates available for this, further increasing functionality. I bet this would make a great waffle iron with the removable easy-to-clean plates and variable temperature. Why aren't these plates included in the Costco kit? They should be, and would make a great selling point!"

Very Pleasantly Surprised

Pros: easy to clean, can use for more than just sandwiches, better than any other "electric grill" i have used
Cons: none so far
"We purchased one as a wedding gift and the the versatility of the appliance impressed us. But, we didn't want another "one use" appliance.
The Cuisinart Griddler has proven it value. We use it at least once a week. It is so easy to clean and we look the idea of using less oil or butter when cooking.
It is great for grilling burgers, chicken, paninis and sandwiches."

perfect grilled cheese

Pros: easy to clean, grills quickly, no heating up the kitchen, no fat added
Cons: time to preheat
"I'm not sure how the others are making their grilled cheese sandwiches, but I put cheese and turkey between a couple of sourdough bread slices, butter both sides and put it on the preheated "grill/hi" setting with the flat plates. It IS NOT OPENED flat, I close it on the sandwich so both sides are being grilled at the same time. After a few minutes, I have a perfectly browned, gooey on the inside and crisp on the outside, perfect grilled cheese, EVERYTIME!! I also use it to grill meat and veggies without any problems. I love that the plates are removable - have owned foreman's big and small in the past and they are way too difficult to clean. Love this product!"

Big Disappointment!

Pros: would have been great to have both a griddle, and a grill in one unit with removable easy to, clean plates
Cons: won't hold a high temperature long enough to brown, a grilled cheese!
Model Number: GRID-8NPC
"I was excited to think I could get rid of two small appliances and consolidate to one. I always hated dragging out the big griddle from the cabinet but loved the way my pancakes and grilled cheese turned out on the griddle. I was going to leave my new cuisinart on the counter, ready to go for quick breakfast pancakes and lunch sandwiches. I just got it today. The thermostat on the griddle side kept cycling off and the griddle would not stay hot. It also took a very long time for it to even get hot. After first failure at making grilled cheese, I left the griddle on for a good 10 minutes, and tried to make another grilled cheese. It browned one side pretty good, but by time I flipped it to brown the other side, the thermostat light turned off and the griddle lost heat. After a good 20 minutes, I finally had a almost browned grilled cheese. Ugh. Not at all good! I read other reviews and there are quite a few like mine. We are all wondering, did we get a lemon? I will be calling Cuisinart because they are better than this! I will also be returning this unit to Costco ASAP! If this couldn't cook a grilled cheese in 20 minutes, there is no way it could cook a piece of meat on the grill side, or even pancakes as I had hoped."

High Hopes were Dashed :0(

Pros: grill plates easy to remove and clean in dishwashe
Cons: doesn't get hot enough to cook adequately
Model Number: GROD - 8NPC
"Read reviews for this product - thought this would be a good 'all round' appliance - one worth leaving on the counter top for regular use. Tried grilling steaks and they took forever and never really browned.
Tried it for toasted cheese sandwiches - worked ok but they were horribly smashed.
Then woke up thinking - 'I'll try the griddler for bacon/eggs and pancakes - bacon/eggs on one side of griddle and dollar pancakes on other side.
Bacon NEVER got crispy - griddle just never got hot enough to cook the pancakes - I even turned it up to 425 - but it kept shutting off and cooling down and the pancakes were limp and so was the bacon - the eggs? Just not good.
As a previous poster said - the only GOOD thing that I really liked about this appliance was how easy the plates were to remove and replace and clean in the dishwasher.
I have repacked it and will take it back to Costco Friday. Planning to buy another George Foreman."

Quick and Easy

Pros: works great, easy cleanup
Cons: would like if it came with more recipes.
"We've had this product for over 2 months, and now we don't know how we did without it. Great for summer months, as it doesn't heat up the kitchen. We use it a lot to grill fish fillets. I use the grill sides, pre heat for a few minutes on high, slap my oiled and seasoned filets down, close the lid, and 6 min. later they're done to perfection. Very easy cleanup. I've done quesadillas too -- very easy with this griddle."

Wonderful product!

Pros: easy to clean, works as promised
Cons: can't think of a single one
Model Number: Cuisinart Griddler Gourmet
"I bought this with the intention of making grilled sandwiches, but it never really caught on with me. Much to my surprise however, I discovered grilled vegetables and this machine is PERFECT for doing that. I grill them almost every single night. Just brush a tad bit of olive oil on them withe the spices of your choice, then let 'em grill. Sooo easy to clean as well. Just an all around functional product. You can't go wrong with this. Oh, and grilled onions....YUM! Just grill 'em until they turn light brown. They taste like onion rings, without all the fat."

We use this ALL the time

Pros: opens for two flat griddles, panels easily removable for cleaning, heats up quickly
"I have to admit, when this appliance came home from Costco, I wasn't sure we'd use it a lot. The features you'll find make it a value. We love the fact that the plates can be flipped for either a grill or a flat surface. Even more, we like that we can remove and wash the plates by hand, then snap them right back on. A related feature is the ability to fold the top all the way back for two flat griddle surfaces. We've made pancakes every weekend since this little gizmo came home. Warm up some sausages? Yep, it works quickly. Grill up some burgers? Got that covered, too. If you can put it on an outdoor grill, it can go in this grill, too. Minus the smoke."

Very handy to have in your kitchen

Pros: easy to use and clean
Model Number: GRID-8NPC
"Works very to do a multitude of cooking and grilling without having to heat up the kitchen, or as a quick meal prep without using the outdoor grill. Great for families with kids to make great sandwiches quickly. Wish the same appliance came in a smaller size for single serve."

Everyone needs one!

"I LOVE IT!!!! Bought this as a gift for ourselves and did not use it for a good year. First couple of times I use it I wasn't that impressed! I must of been dazed and confused.
Then somewhere along the line 2 years ago I used it again and the rest is history. We love it, probably use it 2 or 3 times a week. Matter of fact, I bought a second one to have in my outdoor kitchen. (We do have a huge natural gas grill, but a lot of the time this is just Cuisinart Griddler is just easier)
It cleans up like a snap and after all this time and uses it still looks like new. Honestly I have never used the griddle, always the grill for cooking or sandwiches. I read where a couple of people said it did not get hot enough and I think I had the dial set wrong when I first got mine, chalk it up to user error. The oil cups hold plenty, and even if you had something with a lot of fat, you get two so you could change them out if they get full.
This is my favorite kitchen appliance, I will end where I started, I LOVE IT."

Had High Hopes

Pros: interchangeable grill/griddle plates
Cons: not hot enough, grease outlet too small, uneven cooking
Model Number: GRID-8NPC, Costco item #526488
"Had high hopes , but alas, this Cuisinart Griddler Gourmet just doesn't cut it. Returning it today. The top plate doesn't get hot enough, so food cooks unevenly. In fact the whole unit really doesn't heat up enough to actually sear the paninis, burgers or quesadillas. Maybe I just bought a dud or maybe they're all like this. But, I'm returning and not exchanging for another as the fatal flaw is the grease drain. It's way too small to handle even 3 extra lean burgers, resulting in a messy overflow. Like my well known brand(think boxer) indoor grill much better. Will probably invest in a higher quality/more expensive panini press."
