Value but caution

Pros: price can't beat!
Cons: installation
Model Number: 90167
"For the price point alone, I would give this product 5 stars. However, the installation & assembly was very difficult. Almost impossible to install it by yourself without injuring yourself. Caution with the details required for installation. You cannot afford to miss a step, let alone make a mistake. You need a power drill to get the self tapping screws in the pole & backboard. I cannot reiterate more, do not make a mistake. This DIY project took me more than 4 hrs to complete! After two days... I'm still sore!!"

Good Hoop. Poor Manual.

Pros: good and solid hoop
Cons: poor instruction manual to assemble
"Good hoop. My kids love it. But it took a long time to assemble and we were worried about injury during assembly.
Bolts and Nuts are sometimes very hard to tighten and the some of the bolts won't even go through the holes"

Design it for Recreation

Pros: grip height adjust
Cons: too much vibration movement, thin transparent backboard
Model Number: 90176
"Installation and instructions could be better. There are two carriage bolts that attach the backboard to the frame. These bolts are designed to fit into the frame but they turn in the frame slot. I had to insert a paper clip in there to prevent the bolts from turning when tightening. Also, the backboard is a thin piece of plexiglass that doesn't have good bounce. The only reason the NBA uses a transparent backboard is so spectators behind the backboard can see the shot go in. For recreational purposes a transparent backboard is not needed. Prefer a solid backboard with good bounce vs. a transparent one."

Takes time to assemble but well built

Pros: seems quite stable for a protable system
Cons: enlarging the holes was unexpected although easy
Model Number: Lifetime 90176 52"
"Assembly went well but I followed carefully the well written assembly instructions and inventoried all the parts before I started. All parts were there. It took me about 8 hours working alone for most of the time, which I thought was pretty good given the size of the project. You need two people only to attach the base and hoop to the pole. Everything else can be done by one person. I had to slightly enlarge two holes on the angle supports, otherwise everything fit together easily."

base cracked after 4 months

Pros: quality backboard and rim
Cons: base cracked after 4 months, too heavy without water in base
"above average backboard and rim, but do not purchase if you want a "portable" hoop.
The based cracked after 4 months and will no longer hold water, causing the hoop to fall over.

Good but really tough to put together

Cons: too heavy
"I have always heard friends moaning over the years about the assembly of these things and now know why! Wow! That took my husband & I a good 3 hours to put together. Almost needed a 3rd adult it was so heavy towards the end of the assembly. Wishing now I had gotten a smaller backboard! Too late now. The actual product is great once assembled & so far so good."

Lifetime® 52" XL Portable Basketball Hoop

Model Number: 52" XL Portable
"Basketball Hoop arrived on time. Got everything put together and realized that two important pieces were missing, the two pieces to complete the handle which adjusts the height. Really not sure how two crucial pieces were missed. I called the 800 number for Lifetime and after what seemed like a 'lifetime', someone answered the phone. The man took my info and promised to call me on Monday to see if the pieces could be expedited. Never got a call so I called late Monday. The person that I spoke to apologized and offered to send them Fedex 3 day. They will hopefully arrive this Friday.
The backboard is very thin and definitely makes a lot of noise. Other than that, it seems to be OK.

WARNING -- Backboard is JUNK!

Cons: backboard is junk!
"I ordered one of these and, when it arrived and before I assembled it, I examined the backboard. It seemed thin and without much firmness, so I tested the backboard with a basketball. Good thing I did because the ball basically fell against a dead surface and the backboard vibrated like a trampoline, NOT at all like a backboard should!.
So I promptly brought it back to Costco.
Then, I visited 4 local sporting goods stores (all national or local chains) to see what they had in stock and test the backboards of the display models. What I found was that ALL the Lifetime backboards are basically junk as are many of its competitors. I am still looking for a portable system with the firm backboard like my old one (Spalding) but have not found it yet. Will keep searching.
STRONG ADVICE -- Go to a sporting goods store and throw a basketball against the backboards of the models on display. You'll see what I mean."

Pros: quality materials made in the usa
"Although the basketball hoop came in a box that had a puncture and some missing strapping, the unit itself was complete and went together fairly straight forward. No complaints having owned it for a few weeks now. It gets a lot of use and so far no problems to report."

Excellent product at excellent price

"This is excellent quality product at very excellent price. some of earlier review mentioned about large base. yes it is large but I liked it as it holds this hoop firmly and less worry about tipping off."

Good goal; takes a while to put together

Pros: easy to adjust height
Cons: takes more than one person to put together, takes 4 hrs+ to put together
"So far, so good. Hubby & 10 yr old son put it together...it was not an easy task...especially when it came to filling with sand. But, it's up & we're using it & it's pretty good. Hope to get years of enjoyment out of it!"

Solid Basketball Hoop System

"Fairly easy to put together, only took a few hours. The height is very easily adjustable and quick. It is also very easy to move, even after we filled the base with water. Our boys are loving it!
The only downside I can see is that the backboard is a little flimsy, meaning that if you throw the ball against it, it does not come back as strongly as it would on a more traditional hoop."

Slow Delivery

Cons: missing part
"Ordered this system for my nephews birthday, we check the same one at a local sporting goods store. The Costco price was $50 dollars cheaper, so I bought it. Lifetime must use a snail to deliver it, because it took almost two weeks to get here. I read the assembly reviews and was all set for a couple of hours of time to set it up. The whole process only lasted about 20 minutes, because a part was missing for step 3. This missing part was the one that held the pole to the base. Work has stopped.
My sister called to Lifetime and they are shipping the part but FED-ex ground. It will take at least another week to get here. You think that after their screw-up an expedited delivery would have been in order.

Shipped without net

"Product came okay and assembled fine but came missing basket net, I called 800 customer service number at least 4 times but they didn't offer any help. I don't know what to do with this item after spending over an hour is assembly its still incomplete. I do not recommend buying products from this vendor."

Great Product

"I put it together in 2 hours with a little help from my 10 year old and 8 year old sons. The assembly instructions are very good. The hoop is sturdy, height easily adjustable. A great deal for the price."

Quality product, not a good fit for our yard

Model Number: #565131
"All the comments about the assembly & directions were right on. Two people/two hours. Just know that when you start and you'll be fine.
PROS:: The quality is great...sturdy, stable & easy to adjust the height. Shake of the backboard is minor and basket is very strong. Pretty sure my husband could hang on it no problem.
CONS: This thing is massive!! I know the dimenstions are listed but the base is beyond what we could have imagined. I've seen other hoops and the base on this one is bigger than most. Perhaps that's what makes it sturdy, but it takes up so much space. It was also near impossible to move when full (we used water). This made placement even more limited for us. Once it's in place, it's not going anywhere. Also, when the ball hits the backboard it is loud. I mean really loud....like your neighbors will be screaming at you loud. If you have a huge yard with plenty of space between you & your neighbors, this won't matter. Unfortunately there's only about 15-20 feet between our neighbors and us.
Overall, a great product for the price, but the cons outweighed the pros for us. We just got back from returning it to Costco - with no hassles of course."

Not so portable

Pros: instructions were clear with good diagrams, not as wobbly as i was expecting
Cons: too heavy and cumbersome to really be portable
"Instructions for assembly were pretty clear and straightforward. I mainly relied on the picture diagrams for the install.
I assembled this myself but could have used some assistance at 3 different stages including standing the assembled product up. At a minimum, you'll need 2 adjustable wrenches. I recommend an adjustable wrench and open or closed-end wrenches in 9/16, 1/2, and 3/4 inch sizes. Also a mallet is invaluable in getting some of the bolts in. Installation took me about 3 hours.
This thing will not stay standing by itself when the base is empty so be sure to have someone hold it up while filling the base with sand or water. Even with the base filled with water, I'm not sure this thing can withstand winds greater than 25 mph. I'll have to weight down the base with sandbags or use perhaps tie it down with tent stakes.
The net is smaller than standard size but it can be easily replaced. The backboard wobbles a bit but not as much as I had feared it would.
I bought this for use in my front yard. I have a sloping driveway so wanted a portable unit that I can move to and from the sidewalk easily. This thing is so heavy and bulky that I decided to leave it parked on my lawn next to the driveway. I would probably have purchased an in-ground system instead had I known how unportable these things really are."

good purchase

Pros: good solid product
Cons: difficult to install
"great purchase, but be ready for some serious instalation! I am usually pretty handy and enjoy putting things together, but not this one! lables in the manual not helpful since the peices are not labled. Our tools were not good enough and actually had to hire a handyman for the install. took handyman and myhusband 2 hrs!"

Good Deal

"Purchased this basketball goal after shopping the several sporting goods stores. This was by far a better deal for price and overall quality.
Putting together isn't too hard. Only a couple of things require 2 people. Recommend filling with sand after getting pretty close to final location. Not very easy to move after full.
Would definitely buy again.
