Great machine!!!
Pros: quick quiet and intuitive, price was very competitive
Cons: no docking station, wish it had more usb ports

"I've had several laptops but this one has been my favorite so far. It is very quick and has given me no problems in the short time I've had it - and I work it hard! The only thing I was surprised about was that it did not allow for a docking station which, for me, was a disappointment since I use a 30 inch monitor with my laptop. I've gotten around this issue by using its HDMI port.
I also wish it had more USB ports since you use up two with an external mouse and keyboard. A docking station would have made those issues go away since you would plug mouse and keyboard into the docking station instead but here, that is not an option. I use a USB2 hub for extra ports but have to be careful not to oversubscribe the port which I have done on multiple occasions. Sigh... A docking station would have made this machine the BEST... BUT, it's still an amazing machine."

Very Happy

"Well, unlike some other unlucky reviewers here, I am loving this laptop. Mine is very quiet and barely gets warm--does not get hot at all. I was at first put off by the shiny screen surface but it has not been a problem for me. The display is excellent. I've only had mine for two days so I'm still getting to know it, but so far I am very pleased."

"Just open box and there where the problems bad sound fan always working call tech sopport and they told me y have to send it for repair not even an hour in my hands and y have to send it for repair will never buy HP again will just keep my Mac and Vio they never gave me problems."

Costco is the best
Pros: sandy bridge, 8gb

"Several weeks ago I had purchased the previous flagship DV7 that Costco.com had to offer. Had the i7-740 1gb of ATI goodness and the 8gb and two 500gb drives. The two drives were a great combo cause I was able to leave the progs on one drive and all my data on the other which really made for some great performance. The laptop was rock solid. Considering it had a windows OS. One night I had a marathon programming session and must of been on the laptop for 8 hours straight. I put it away for the evening hoping to pick up where I left off in the morning. Morning came around and I started the laptop and I know that it was starting and it was ready for login cause the windows start jingle has just finished but there was no display. I thought I must of hit one of the hot keys that enable a second monitor, so I proceeded to figure how to undue what I thought I must have done. Out of frustration, I restarted the laptop and noticed that the display didn't even show the POST screen. But the windows startup jingle rang just as it had before. Oh well, looks like it suffered from some display disconnection. I returned it to my locAl Costco. I immediately came home and ordered the new DV7 that costco.com had listed. The one that is listed now only has one 750gb drive instead of the two 500gb drives. But the new DV7 now sports the i7-2630qm(sandy bridge) CPU and for one hundred dollars less. Looks like I'm gonna be in for some extra performance once it finally shows up."

Great buy
"I've owned many HP laptops that were purchased from Costco. The HP laptops I've owned never had overheating issues. I had one issue wherein the hard drive was very loud. Called customer service, sent the laptop in for repair and a new hard drive was installed. The whole process took 3 days.
It is unfortunate that MCMalkemus had a problem with one HP laptop and now that is their view of all HP laptops. This product appears to be a fantastic buy for those looking for a desktop replacement."

HP heat problem
Cons: overheats
"Use caution when purchasing HP. The last one I bought from Costco self-destructed due to excessive heat just days after the Costco return policy expired, and I seriously doubt that HP has addressed the design issues to date.
They never even returned an email after writing to their corporate office multiple times.
I for one, will never purchase another HP, no matter how 'nice' it might appear. Good luck if you choose to purchase one."
