good purchase

Pros: good value for the price
Cons: little complicated to figuring wireless printing.
Model Number: brother mfc 740 dn black white all in one laser
"The printer came really fast; 2 days delivery time. I have made a few copies and they turn out well.
I am having a tough time figuring out the wireless part of the printer. I liked the fact a can get 2000+ copies out of a cartage.

Perfect All in One for my Home Office

Pros: bought it at costco! never an issue with cust serv
Cons: none!
Model Number: Brother MFC-7460DN
"This is my 4th Brother. I have one larger unit that we use in our Medical Office. 2 smaller Brothers in exam rooms. In the past, we have used "ink Jets".. No more! This 7460, uses the SAME toner that my 2 smaller printers use. The TN-450. Very Economical to use and its nice to have the same Toner for 3 of my 4 printers. (The larger printer takes the TN-650. In one month, this printer paid for itself in ink jet savings! The low cost of of a Laser Printer over an ink jet is well worth the investment! What are you waiting for? BUY ONE NOW!!"

best printer I have owned

Pros: many
Cons: no color but a worthwhile trade-off
Model Number: MFC-7460DN
"For years I have been buying inexpensive HP printers at Costco and then paying for a large volume of print cartridges. And now the HP printers require 5 or 6 cartridges in different colors, which really turned me off.
I occasionally miss having color, but not very often. We use this printer for our home business. As others have reported, the document feeder is flawless in its ability to suck in the stack of pages properly. Compared to an HP All in One, the printing is amazingly fast. The scanner is also really good, especially since I can scan using the document feeder and get one PDF document out with all the pages in the same document.
Another HUGE improvement for me is that we travel a lot for our business and are often away from the printer for several days or a week at a time. With the HP, I frequently struggled with cartridges that had dried up and clogged while we were gone. So I either wasted lots of ink using the cleaning feature or had to take them out and store them with a piece of damp sponge whenever we left for more than a few days. This is not an issue for the toner on this printer.
Also, the paper tray is really deep on this printer so you don't have to reload it very often.
We have the printer set up with the toner saver feature turned on and the resulting print quality is fine. I read some complaints about the noise, but ours is set to go into 'deep sleep' quickly so I don't notice it.
I had a little trouble with set up as my CD drive wasn't working properly, but I reached Brother customer service without a long wait and they walked me through the download/set-up process.
It was my non-technical husband who suggested looking at Costco online for something other than HP. I was impressed with the reviews and am totally happy with this purchase which I made a couple months ago. If you can live without color, this is a terrific printer at a very good price."

My favorite out of all the printers I've owned

Model Number: MFC-7460DN
"I've had this machine for a few weeks now, and I love it. I was so excited about it the first day that I spent several hours just playing/experimenting with different features.
SETUP:
* I know next to nothing about computers, and this was a SUPER-easy initial setup. I don't have a disc drive on my computer, so I was grateful to just plug everything in and have it self-install. I should mention, I use a USB cord with it. (Incidentally, I had also remembered reading in another review NOT to use the driver CDs that come with certain brother printers, as they often cause issues...always use the software from the site.) I made sure to switch to the MFC-7460DN as my new default printer.
* I was immediately able to copy documents, print from Word, and scan documents to my PC. I was, for some reason, unable to print the documents I had scanned.
* After downloading the driver from the brother website, and still being unable to print a scanned document, I discovered that my scanning program (Windows Fax & Scan) hadn't recognized that I'd switched to the new printer as default. It was still trying to print on the old one. So I just manually scrolled down to the new one in the dropdown menu, and then it worked fine. (This has since happened with a few other programs, but after the first print, they seem to remember the change.)
CONS:
* It doesn't print color. I know this isn't a true "con," and it's not the printer's fault, but I *really* want color laser printing. It bugs me that color laser printers' consumables (toner) make them so unaffordable.
* I can see what other reviewers have said about the noise. My last printer was a laser, also by brother, and though the fan was sort of loud and lasted a while before "going to sleep," it didn't bother me. This one, on the other hand, has a slightly high-pitched tone in there with the fan, so it's a bit more annoying. I'm just hoping I get used to it over time.
* The LCD screen is obnoxiously faint and hard to see. There are five settings and the default is in the middle. I immediately adjusted mine to have the highest contrast possible, which is still faint. (Needless to say, the lowest setting is a joke.) I don't have to squint or anything, but the readout certainly doesn't jump out at you and make it easy. Brother should've done better here.
PROS:
* Beautiful printing. Couldn't be happier with the quality.
* Printing speed is *quick*! Even to someone who's owned laser printers for over 15 years.
* I'm absolutely loving having a copier at home... no more wasting time/money with last-minute Kinko's runs.
* I won't be using the fax feature, but from what I can tell (having programmed the date/time, etc.) the fax buttons and programming seem very simple and intuitive.
* I have nothing to compare it to, but the scanning quality is pretty good. If you have a colorful document, I think you'd even have better results if you first scanned it, then printed (vs. copying it using the copier).
* I love the button on the copier that allows you to enlarge or reduce your copies! I'm able to take a full page of a document I may need to hold onto... and instead of keeping it indefinitely to get lost somewhere in my files, I can now easily make a copy, reduce the copy by 50%, hole-punch it, stick it into my planner, and shred/recycle the original. Or just cut out a small piece of a reduced page and glue it in.
* There are a million options for doing versions of the above if I'm working with *any* scanned document, or with a Word document, typed notes from a phone call, etc. I can tell the printer to print *two* pages of a Word document on a single sheet, or even four or six pages on a single sheet. It allows up to 25. And you can print them going from left to right, up to down, etc.
* The main reason I picked this specific printer is the duplex feature! I've always worked hard to conserve paper by printing on both sides, but now I don't have to constantly carefully open the paper tray to insert a new stack of already-1-side-printed-paper so I can then use the other side. I can just tell the printer to print on both sides from the get-go. Or I can cut down on the paper even further by smooshing two pages into one as I wrote above, and *also* duplex!
* You can duplex photocopies by pressing a dedicated "duplex" button on the copier. I haven't played with this yet.
* When you download the driver, you get an application called "Brother Creative Center," which has a demo and sounds fascinating. (I haven't used it yet.)
BOTTOM LINE:
I'm pretty sure I sound overly excited about a printer... maybe even about features that many other printers have (and I never knew it?). But *because* of the duplexing feature, I really started to experiment yesterday and discovered so many new things I can do. It's only been out of the box one day, and this machine is already making me feel more in control of my daily and longterm organizing - and excited about reducing my paper clutter. For a *really* reasonable price, too. (I got it during a sale.) Plus it's just fun to use, and pretty to look at the end result. I feel all professional and creative. Haha. The day I opened it, I found myself sitting here trying to think of new things to print next! Anyway, I plan to use this for:
* Organizing (and paring down) important documents
* Getting more efficient and creative with my (paper) planner
* Making labels
* Old-fashioned paper correspondence
* Academic projects

nice printer

Model Number: Brother MFC-7460DN
"this is a very nice printer for the money. the only drawback is that it is a loud printer. Otherwise the print time and quality is excellent and it scans cleanly with high dpi quality."

Overall A Nice Printer

Pros: reliable (doesn't jam), prints 2 sided reducing paper costs
Cons: scanner does not work with windows 2003 server, installation cd did not work with windows 2003 ser
Model Number: MFC-7460DN
"I had an HP laserjet printer that was constantly jamming and needed to be replaced as well as a fax machine that needed to be replaced.
The most important things to me are having a duplex (2 sided printing capability) and reliability.
So far this printer is just that.
Overall, I am very pleased"

Great printer

Model Number: MFC - 7460DN
"I am running on a MAC Pro and PC running Windows 7 with the printer plugged into my Airport Extreme router. Prints great. I use it for home office. I like that it scans quickly. Setup was fairly easy. Had to download drivers from Brother website, but instructions were clear. I like that the scan control center is easy to access on the status bar.
It also prints much quicker than my old hp all-in-one inkjet. Haven't had to buy toner yet, so not sure about printing cost.
I like that it isn't constantly aligning print heads.
Only con is the fan noise. It is a little louder than any printer I have had, but it is only loud when in use or just after.

Pros: useful for everyday use
Cons: price noise frame materials
Model Number: Brother MFC-7460DN Monochrome Multifunction Laser Printer
"This produced is over priced. It should be max 150 dollars not the 200 dollars. The full software installation is problematic for computers (I am a very computer oriented guy), I do not like sounds when double sided printing, but occasionally I need to print double sides. Printing quality, response, and functions of the printer are very good. Network printing is very good too. I will keep it until I see there is no other low price. Minus two stars are due to price , color of the printing machine, sounds when printing double sides, and materials used to structured the frame of the printer"

Fast Printing

Pros: fast, reasonably priced
Model Number: MFC-7460DN
"Have only had the unit about a week and have not used the scan, copy or fax functions yet. The print function, however, is great! Fast and clean. Set up was fairly easy. Am looking forward to saving on print costs. Had a ink jet color printer previously and hated spending so much money on the cartridges. So far, so good!"

Returned Lexmark Pro 901 for this Printer!

Pros: low ink costs
Cons: none - simple and easy.
Model Number: Brother MFC-7460DN Printer
"I tried two (2) Lexmark Pro901 printers, and I returned both and bought this MFC-7460DN and am much happier now! The Lexmark was high maintenance and had several problems. The Brother Laser printer does only black/white but works smoother and I was able to hook up two computers we have wirelessly. Tech support helped me on the phone. Give up on color printers and go with Brother Laser is my advice."
