Not impressive in the least

Pros: easy to clean
Cons: cheesy timer
"I wanted french fries at home, so I went to get a deep fryer. As always, I checked the local Costco because we've come to trust their selection as the best product at a cheaper price. Instead of a conventional fryer, I found this. The price kinda scared me, but I liked the idea of only using a tablespoon of oil; less than for health reasons and more because I didn't care to be throwing used oil away all the time. I was also interested in the other recipes.
Got it home and opened the box to find just a handful of recipes with the promise of more online. I started a batch of fries (40 mins?!) and then went to look up more recipes. Really, there aren't many. The quality of the recipes online are poor (at least one included no measurements), and although there was the ability to submit more, the most recent was about 5 months old. Not feeling so good about my purchase anymore, I went to try the fries. They were decent, not as tasty as fried, but I guess they were healthy. I cleaned the unit, then started some fried bananas & pineapple. It was fantastic (over vanilla ice cream), but nothing I couldn't have done on the stove top. The next day we tried fries again, and these were much worse (maybe overdone). The timer is not exactly set it and forget it; you hold down a button while the timer clicks up and it emits a tiny beeping when the timer reaches 00 (Actifry keeps cooking).
Tonight, we made the sweet and sour pork. It was neither sweet, nor really that sour. Kinda devoid of taste of any kind. Again, something I could easily reproduce on the stove (and usually do).
So now I am sitting here wondering why it costs so much more than a conventional fryer. Honestly, it is the equivalent of a rotating paddle and a hair dryer. Am I paying the money so I don't have to stand in front of the hot stove stirring constantly? We'll clean it up tonight and return it tomorrow."

I like it !!

"I was a bit apprehensive to buy this product because of its high cost, but a friend of ours uses it and she was always praises it. I love doing catfish in this, no smell while cooking fish and it is easy! I marinate fish fillets cut into small cubes and put oil in it and switch it on, it is done, just enough crispy, in 25 min. It does tend to dry out the veggies, maybe I should add a little water along with oil. Potatoes comes out really well, I tried doing okra in it but my recipe needs to be perfected a bit more. I cooked chicken, came out very well. Overall I'm very satisfied with this product . Very easy to operate and more important for me is no mess in the kitchen. I use it everyday now for the past one month and I feel the money is well spent. It does operate with lot of sound, but that doesn't bother me. I hope T-Fal improves on this product by making it shut off when the timer is up. And also I hope they make the beeping of timer a bit more audible."

Returned It

"I had wanted to buy the Actifry for several years, but the mixed reviews made me leary. When Costco started selling it in their stores, I snapped one up because I knew I could return it.
I put mine through a lot of runs in a month, ganering not only my evaluation but those of my spouse and daughter -- who lived in Paris for about a year.
For outstanding fries, forget it. They don't meet Parisian or Belgian standards by a long shot. And the requirements for rinsed and absolutely dry potato sticks will help sell a lot of Kirkland brand paper towels and take you a lot of time to prepare. (But if you don't do that, the results will be terrible.)
Certain other foods were rather nice when prepared in the Actifry, but probably not superior to oven baked which also were given a spritz of 1 tablespoon oil.
With disappointment, I returned mine.
But I certainly am glad that Costco gave me the opportunity to checkout this appliance.

Disappointment

"I was very excited about this product and it was recommended to me by a family member. Unfortunately, it didn't hold up to its promise. 1. Poor /cheap construction 2. I tried the "crsipy" fries 3 times. First time I left them in the cooker after the time was up and the steam developing in the plastic lid instantly turned them soggy. Next 2 times they were ok,but crispy? No! 3. For a family of 4 it just isn't enough and the work you have to cut the potatoes into fries...not worth it. 5. It is rather loud so if you have an open kitchen/family room it can be annoying ( remember the fries need about 40 min!) 6. the rest of the included recipes are not that great and work better in a regular pan. Bottom line: way too expensive.Use your oven!"

Mixed Feelings

Pros: easy to clean, easy to use
Cons: loud, expensive, large
"This machine does not do anything your oven or pans canot do, therfore I returned the appliance. It did a couple of things well. small sausages and granola. 7 minutes to make great granola. I did not like the potatoes that I cooked. Might be a great appliance where there is not a full kitchen. college dorm possibly. I felt it was well made just not neccessary and quite pricy. Would only reccomend under certain circumstances."

Overpriced food dryer

"After reading a lot of reviews I decided to give it a try and purchased the fryer. The bottom line this a bulky, clumsy pot that dries the food by blowing hot air like a hair dryer. Nothing magical about it's cooking abilities and is way too overpriced. The taste is far off from the gold standard old fashioned oven."

Fry without the oil

Pros: low use of oil
Cons: cost, timer only beeps and does not shut off machine, lack of vegetarian recipes in book
"One of the best purchases yet (Sodastream has been the all time best) I've used this on onion rings (COSTO--please start stocking these), tater tots, fries, potatoes and tofu.
The results are deep fried quality without the big use of oil. If you use frozen products you really don't have to use any additional oil."

The best

Pros: healthy style
Cons: very expensive
"I love this cooker. Fries is excellent without oil. Chicken and beef taste better than in regular pan. But the only down side is very expensive."
