Looks good, but does not stream as good as Sony

Pros: picture quality with bluray and dvd is great, looks very expensive, difficult to setup via wireless via wep encryption
Cons: audio is converted to 2ch when streamed, can not play mkv via sd card, can not play mkv via usb, gui is difficult to navigate
Model Number: DMP-BDT215
"I bought this unit to replace a Sony BDP-BX58. The Panasonic can not stream movies from my computer and decode in 5.1 channel sound. The sony was able to do this very well. In addition, the video quality of streamed content from home computer looks pixelated and choppy. I thought it was due to having it setup wireless. I hard wired the connection and it still looked pixelated and choppy. The Sony Bluray Player was excellent in its streaming capability. I decided to keep this player because it plays Bluray and DVDs very well and they look better than the Sony. The Sony picture quality looked greenish. I am disappointed in the streaming capability of this player. If it had the Sony's ability to Stream I would have given it 5 stars. If you want a player that has good picture quality with Bluray and DVD discs then get this unit. For the price you can't go wrong. I haven't tried the 3D features as I don't have a 3DTV so I can't comment on that."

I like it!

Pros: price and features
Cons: wifi linking
Model Number: BDT-215
"Have used it (Model BDT 215) extensively since buying it this week for Netflix streaming, YouTube, and Facebook on TV. Have also watched a Blu-ray and regular DVD. I'm not much for reading manuals so I won't give an opinion on that. Setup was very easy. Wi-Fi is OK, but it doesn't always immediately link up (but I have same problem with other systems like wife's Nook) so I am using my DSL cable part of the time. The remote and on screen displays are good. Streaming is fast and Blu Ray loading speed is reasonable. For the price it cannot be beat."

Decent Player

Pros: built in wi-fi
Cons: instruction manual
"It's a pretty nice BD player, and a lot better than the older Samsung unit it's replacing.
I'm using a direct ethernet connection right now, not the Wi-Fi, so I can't comment on that.
No problems with my Netflix streaming, though the on-screen navigating isn't as easy or pretty as the Netflix on my Panasonic TV.
My only real complaint is the instruction manual. I know most people don't even read them, but if you're like me and you want to get the most out of your expensive electronics, don't expect to get it from the manual. It's one of the most confusing ones I've ever read. Just going to have to go through the menus and figure things out that way."

jury still out

Pros: free 3d mail in disc, fairly straight forward setup
Cons: netflix streaming issue
Model Number: 215P
"we originally purchased the Vizio player with wifi but have started experiencing little issues like icons staying on the screen, and extremely slow startup.
when we first setup this 215p player, it was not as straight forward as the Vizio but manageable. Once setup, we ran the firmware update. So far so good.
then we tried netflix. We logged into our account, and the player froze at about 1/4 download...every time. I went to the net to see if there were any others with the same issue. Yes...CNET has a great review but a lot of posters that had the same issue. Apparently Panasonic was aware and has been working on fixing with the firmware updates. Since we were at the latest firmware, we had no place else to turn as we tested netflix on our computer and the vizio...both worked fine.
I reset to factory defaults with the intention of returning. I had an extra 10 minutes to kill before leaving so I decided to run setup again. Did that...this time, the firmware showed 1.65 (latest) but all passwords needed to be added again. Did that and low and behold, netflix loaded. I will keep it and try it with cautious optimism. I had already returned the Sony because they use only coaxial digital RCA and my stereo only has fiber optic.
bottom line, hard to recommend yet. good price point though and as always, because it is costco, we have the return option. Hate to use it but will if we have to."
