Mac Book users beware!!

Pros: wifi is great throughout a large home
Cons: macbook users can't print to any type of printer
Model Number: R4500
"We purchased this router for a large home and the good news is that it provides coverage throughout the house for the PC and Mac users. But if you have a MacBook Pro (2012) don't expect to be able to print on a network or Airprint printer. 7 hours with Netgear tech support and no solution. The MAC utility from Netgear does not work!!
We will be returning this router as soon as the newly ordered Cisco router arrives.

WOW!

Pros: ease of installation and set up
Cons: none
Model Number: N900
"Had to replace an older router and was not impressed with ratings for the Netgear N750 posted on the Costco website. Decided to try Costco anyway and found that our Costco no longer carried the N750 but did have the Netgear N900 with all the bell and whistles. It virtually installed itself (I had to plug in the modem, etc.) also had to do the usual password stuff. I didn’t realize what a difference a router could make. It is super fast and I am no longer getting dropped connections or download stalls."

Disappointing and Annoying

"As with the other reviewers I was impressed with the specs as well as other "expert" third party reviewers. However, we constantly lose our internet connection on all devises using the router while still showing a strong signal."

Poor signal for price

Cons: poor wireless signal, firmware upgrade does not improve performance, accessing the modem has become more cumbersome, more expensive than the belkin 750, download speed inferior to belkin, print server and wireless network no working
"I purchased this router a little over a month ago and have been wanting to return it but have been busy. I've had to reset this modem numerous times and the signal is just inferior. I would be downstairs and using my speedtest app, I am only get 4 mbps on a 22 mbps line. I use to have a Belkin n 750 and I should have kept the first one I had but I am going to end up having to return this to my local costco. This router was more expensive and it has a very poor signal to say the very least. I was sold on the features of a print server function and the usb network HD share but that too proved to be a dud and never worked. I work in IT so I know how to troubleshoot, setup and fix issues related to my wireless network and everything else. This is an inferior product to the Belkin 750 and a nearly $40 premium, not worth it. I guess my next modem will have to be the Linksys like one of the reviewers recommended"

Constant Annoyance

"I purchased this router at my local Costco and was annoyed by it from Day 1. It constantly loses connection and does not have sufficient range for even my model 3000 square foot home. Additionaly, the separate 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz network names (rather than both under same name) add another step in doing set-up/linking. I went with Cisco e4200 and it works great (Even better than the Apple AIrport Extreme)."

Poor Performance

"Tech level: I specialize in troubleshooting Windows operating systems
This was a very disappointing product. Besides the fact that it gets unbearably low signals from 20ft away, lag spikes even within a close range. One second you're getting about 144mpbs the next it drops to 5.5mbps. It happens off and on"

do some more research

Pros: packed with features, wireless performance
Cons: usb performance, readyshare, buggy firmware, expensive
Model Number: WNDR4000
"I was very impressed with the feature list and specifications of the N750 (WNDR4000). Especially the speed (advertised 750 Mbps), and the ReadyShare (DLNA) media server. Unfortunately the router doesn't live up to the advertising.
It turns out the 750 in "N750" stands for 350Mbps @2.4GHz and 400Mbps @5GHz in a dual band configuration, and not a single connection 750Mbs. It's 750 through the router, but not to any one client. Misleading but still impressive.
On the Netgear forum, some people complained about random reboots and dropped connections, but I experienced none of these.
The usb file server is very slow. Also the management features for the file server are sparse. For instance, the shares are either locked down (admin) or wide open, a share folder is not reachable if the parent share is locked down, etc.
I wasted alot of time troubleshooting ReadyShare. The consensus on the Netgear forum is ReadyShare (DLNA/UPNP) has been broken since released (a couple years now?) and Netgear is not going to fix it. Had I known I wouldn't have bought this router.
Since usb and ReadyShare were the main reasons for my purchase, I'll probably return it. For the price the rest of the features are pretty light."

Good Router, but Quirky

Pros: speed, dual band, highly configurable
Cons: usb port functionality
"For the basic networking functions of routing, wireless wifi and speed this router is exceptional.
However, the USB port is a mystery! I was expecting a USB port with a bit more functionality. It is not a print server and also doesn't work well with multi-partitioned hard drives. I was hoping to attach a hub to the USB port and run several Hard drives off of it. I'm not sure it will work.
After these experiences I tried to find documentation on what the USB port supports. There isn't much. There isn't even documentation of what protocols the USB port conforms.
As for the print server, if your printer supports wired Ethernet printing then you can plug it into the wired router ports and it works without any issues."
