The Brother 1134DW Serger features a 3/4 lay-in thread with lower looper threader. Stitch options include 4 thread overlock, 3 thread overlock, narrow hem, rolled hem, and ribbon lock stitches. In addition, the machine has a free arm/flat bed convertible sewing surface and offers a F.A.S.T. lower looper threading system for easy thread changes and comes with starter thread included! The differential feed improves results on stretch or thin fabrics to give you a perfect finish. Snap-on presser feet allow quick and easy changes to transition to each desired stitch and includes a bonus piping foot. The 1134DW also includes an instructional CD to make serging fast, easy and fun.

wonderful machine
Pros: all functions ease od threading
Cons: lacking 2 thread option

"I have had 1034D which is almost identical to this one for three years. Threading is much easier than my 15 years old machine. thread adjustment is so easy and you can almost do all home projects with it. My only wish is to have 2 needles option. There are number of Youtube video on this machine that you can learn about different function. I advise those people that can not thread this serger to not ever buy any other serger because you may never be able to work with another one. I have years of experience working with industrial and home swing machine and sergers and by far this one is the most user friendly one. I hope you all enjoy serging as much as I do when using this serger."

Great Product for the Price
Pros: light good action versatile.
Cons: would have liked a handle on the top of the unit.
"I've been sewing for years and have had sergers in the past. This is versatile, lightweight, sews nicely for a home machine and unlike other readers I found this machine much easier to thread than models I've previous owned. I like the smooth feed on the machine and the cutting is accurate. Costco also has a great price on this. You can get the machine cheaper elsewhere but it doesn't come with some of the attachments that add up when you buy and have them shipped to you. A good package."

even for a good price, a machine that doesn't work
"is not worth the $ spent. I have been sewing for years, but never owned a serger. I purchased this one because I liked the price and wasn't sure how much I would actually use a serger. It turns out I use it a LOT. This model is one below any model that professional sewing centers sell. I played with it a ton and could sometimes get the tensions set so that I could get a pretty good stitch, but the upperlooper was always loose, no matter what I tried. Also, there is no little metal piece dividing the right and left needle threads, so the threads get twisted and one comes loose and the machine skips stitches, and eventually the thread will break. Also, the final threading hook threads on the left, so that when you sew a little bit faster the threads will separate and get wrapped around one side of the needle holder. That probably doesn't make sense, but I have threaded and rethreaded and played with it for 6 weeks. I finally took it into a professional sewing center where they sell brother machines to get help. They showed me one model up (which has a metal divider and threads on the right) and it was amazing the difference. After weeks of frustration I am returning my costco machine and purchased the one from the sewing center. Also, most professional sewing centers offer free classes on your machine when you purchase from them, so I will be able to learn the potential of my machine. I don't normally review products, but I was ready to live with it just barely functioning, I am glad I was able to figure out that it wasn't me, but some major design flaws, I just thought I would share."

Great Machine for the Price

"I've had the machine for a couple of weeks now & love it. This is my first Serger machine & my first Brother product. I found the instructional CD very helpful in threading the machine as well as illustrating the different types of attachments & stitches. I've used the overlock stitch with the single needle & the 2 needles. I've also used the rolled hem stitch. I'm extremely pleased with the machine."

LOVE my Serger!!
"I love, love, LOVE this serger. Though it may be intimidating to use, there are a ton of resources available from Brother, as well as useful videos on YouTube. Made two dresses for my girls for back-to-school, and it made things so easy. Serging makes all my work look very professional."

Better than expected
Pros: light weight yet quite sturdy

"I've had experience with much more expensive sergers. This one worked quite well right out of the box - it came threaded. It comes with two dvd's. The one on techniques worked fine on my MAC. The one that covers threading did not. The book is good but I wanted to see the lower looper threaded. I contacted Brother customer service. I got a live person who told me that the issue with Apple computers is a known issue and they are working on it. He was helpful nonetheless and I was impressed."

Worst Purchase Ever
"the Serger Machine was too difficult to learn. Horrible instructions. The pre-threads were all the same color and in the instructions it refers to different colors. I returned this product!"

"We used the machine as soon as it came out of the box with ease. There was a moment of a learning curve when the first thread ran out but we followed the schematic and continued quickly. 'Just had to get over thinking it would thread like a regular machine."

"This is not the $1000 serger I originally wanted but is one that I could afford. I purchased this serger to replace one I had for 12 years. I haven't had it long & am still learning how it works. So far though, I like how smooth & quiet it is. This serger is a good buy for the money."

Easy to use

"This is my first serger machine and although I was a little intimidated at first when I opened the box, I feel comfortable with it. This machine comes pre threaded so you cans ee how it should be plus it comes with all the necessary manuals to give you info. It is not loud, and its pretty fast once you lose the fear of it. This machine is compact, lightweight and stores easily, plus it has a cover."
