Works as advertised - with some caveats

Pros: costco customer service, unit funtions adequately
Cons: vinotemp is a brand in decline., units may arrived damaged - check your packaging
Model Number: VT188SBW
"Received from Ceva Logistics, the Costco courier, with no outward damage to packaging, but the unit itself had exterior damage to the upper hinge. This appeared to be induced by over compression of the packaging at the source side. Contacted Costco customer service for repair through Vinotemp. Vinotemp refused to repair. This and other experiences lead me to question the products and services provided by Vinotemp. As their prices have increased, the quality has decreased.
That said, Costco customer service was wonderful. They arranged for pick up and white glove delivery of a replacement unit. I would recommend requesting this service unless you have multiple sons that play linebacker, as the unit is a BEAR to move.
The unit itself is acceptable. The shelving pulls out a little stiffly, but the shelves themselves can easily handle wide bottom Burgundy / Rhone style bottles. Unit temperature does fluctuate moderately based on room temperature. Locking mechanism may be of some use during an earthquake, but should not be considered a security feature."

Not for keeping Cool

"This product will likely not keep your wines at an acceptable temperature. The ad copy says the temperature will fluctuate 5 degrees: it will fluctuate at least 10 degrees. Setting the unit at its lowest setting, 48 degrees, my BRAND NEW unit registers as high as 63 degrees. I called Vinotemp who sent a tech who heard the motor running and told me that the unit "was working." Because the room temperature was about 78 degrees, the tech used that as an excuse, telling me the high temperature in the room was a problem. When autumn arrived, I opened the windows to chill the room to about 65 degrees. It made no difference whatsoever in the operation of the unit. This winecooler is no better than a cool closet and not fit for the purpose for which it was purchased. I have had two smaller Vinotemp units which kept my wine at about 55 degrees with only a couple of degrees fluctuation. I live in Florida and have to do something to keep wine cool. If you live in a cooler climate, you should be able to store your wine almost anyplace that would keep it as cool as this poor performing Vinotemp."

Loud when compressor kicks in.

Pros: looks nice.
Cons: loud when compressor comes on.
Model Number: VT-188
"Yes it's true. After reading other reviews, some comments played it down, but really now, it's a loud vibration sound when the compressor comes on. Not sure how to reset temperature since the manual limits explaining where and what to adjust. It just says reset button and nowhere in the manual shows it pictured. Delivery was quick but the 4 hour window was at the last minute of waiting all day. And NO, they do not take it out of the box for you. It weighs 330 lbs so be careful moving it on tile floors because there are four nut bolts on the bottom that will scrap your floor easily, like mine did. I believe this is last years model since the wooden racks don't look like the newer Vinotemp racks in Wine Enthusiast. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and hope this wine cooler will last at least 5 years or more."

Good Value

Pros: quiet, good size, solid construction
Cons: shelf space is too narrow for magnums and champ.
"This replaced a Vinotemp machine I've had for over 10 years. The Ceva guys rolled it in and it was ready to go. The cooler is excellent but you need to know that magnums and champagne bottles require you to remove a shelf. Other than that it's perfect."

Excellent Value

Pros: attractive and generous size between shelves.
Cons: i would request "white glove" delivery to have, installed in the area you want it.
Model Number: VT188SBW
"This wine unit is an excellent value. All wooden shelves on roller glides. Stainless steel front with substantial stainless steel pull handle. The temperature fluctuates as described, but maintains the average that is set. The noise when running is not more than I expected. Costco has again done a great job in having a unit built for their members at an incredible price!"

amazing frozen wine

"never thought wine refrigerator would fail in such a way that, instead of just shutting down, it actually cooled things to freezing. it seems from error code i relayed to customer service rep that the control panel went wrong and brought temps down to freezing and we had 16 bottles of approximately 100 that actually popped their corks. it seems, according to wine makers, that the freezing may have denied all of the bottles of wines to age appropriately. while we have opened and drank some of these wines and found them OK, those bottles that needed to age (and we had plenty stored) will not do so according to some wine makers with such knowledge. it's a shame to have found too late that good wine refrigerators actually have alarms that warn when the temp goes too high or low. next one will have the alarms."

Very good deal for the money

Pros: good size and build quality of cabinet and shelves
Cons: does make some noise
Model Number: Vinotemp 160 bottle wine cooler
"Have a 36 bottle Vinotemp for last 5-6 yrs, it's been totally reliable.
Bought this one about a week ago. Shipping was fast, guy wheeled it right in the house and zero damage.
It keeps temp very well. Racks are well made, roll well, and holds regular to medium bottles with no problem. The very large sizes, eg champagne do limit the number on a shelf. But you'll find that in all coolers except the high end (much more expensive) ones.
Does make some noise when running, recommend putting in area where noise isn't a factor. It's louder than refrigerator because of front venting, but not obnoxious.
For the money this is a very good deal. Look at all the wine cooler companies and you won't find this capacity for anywhere near the price. And Vinotemp is a good brand, even the lower quality brands elsewhere are much higher. I don't think you could build your own for this price, and it's a lot easier to have it delivered to your door!"

does well

"I have had a model of this for over five years. we built it in, and, it looks great, and has performed well. a bit noisy, and, it DOES NOT hold 160 bottles, more like 100. Also, thicker bottles like syrah or champagne do not fit well. I took out one rack to put larger bottles in a the verfy top"
