The First Alert 2096DF-BD is part of the exclusive line of waterproof fire safes. The 2096DF-BD offers a complete security solution for the three major hazards: theft, flood and fire. The safe’s anti-theft features include patented pry-resistant concealed hinges, a programmable (use your own personal 3 to 8 digit pass-code), digital lock and 6 door locking bolts. This First Alert 2.14 cubic foot fire safe is UL classified for 1 hour to withstand an external temperature of 1700 degrees Fahrenheit while maintaining an internal temperature of less than 350 degrees.
The safe has been tested by an independent testing lab and verified to protect digital media including memory sticks, CDs, DVDs and external hard drives. The composite construction with water tight seal prevents water damage to the contents caused by flooding or by water used in fighting a fire. This waterproof safe will float making it easy to find during a flood, and it will remain dry inside even if fully submerged. The safe also includes an override key that will open the safe if the passcode is forgotten or the batteries go dead. The 2096DF-BD also includes a removable extendable handle with two wheels so that it can be easily moved.
The innovative Ready-Seal™ safe is the only safe in the industry that can be bolted to the floor and remain waterproof and fire resistant with the warranty completely intact. Installation is easy and requires no drilling through the safe. It is the ultimate protection against theft and disaster.

Great little safe but weird bolt-down system
Pros: digital combination works quickly.

"I like this safe. It is the right size and is easy to use. At 150 lbs, it is a little too light for good security. It needs to be bolted down, so I used the provided system to bolt it down. Not happy with the result. I got the bracket bolted to the cement floor, rocked the safe over the bracket and bolted it to the bracket. I then found that the whole safe rocked on the bolt down bracket. I had to shim up the four legs to get it to stop rocking. Even so it still rocks slightly. Not a thoughtful system."

"Arrived pretty quick after I ordered it. Read some reviews that said it gave them problems to open and close. It was a breeze, just follow directions. Great product and it is way larger than I imagined. Plently of room. I hope we never have to see how well it works but it is well worth the money."

Quality Safe with Tons of Room

"I bought this safe to add to my existing Sentry safe which is a much smaller 1.2 CF. This new safe is well made with heavy duty conceiled hinges and a nice programmable touchpad with a key backup. My safe came with one wheel broken, though the manufacturer sent me a new wheen assembly in just a few days. The outside of the safe does have a textured plastic powdercoat shell, though the safe is obviously solid steel on the inside as it weighs a whopping 140 pounds. The only thing that I feel could be done better is the shelving. The shelf inserts themselves are OK as they will adequately divide the inside of the sefe into sections for paperwork of other non-heavy items. The unit comes with two of these shelves and another piece that somehow converts a shelf into a tray. I have not yet figured out how to insert these two pieces together to make the tray as they just don't seem to line-up properly. The safe has a good fire rating and is waterproof due to a rubber gasket which seals the door. Overall I am very happy with this safe and would recommend it for any homeowner or small business to protect important documents, media, or valuables"

Why air out the safe?
"This waterproof safe is designed to seal exterior air, moisture and water from entering the safe. The combination of the air-tight seal and fire insulation may cause moisture to accumulate inside the safe. We recommend that you place delicate items into air tight containers before storing them in your safe.
The desiccant packet included in your safe during shipment, should be left in your safe. DO NOT DISCARD IT. It is intended to help absorb moisture which may accumulate inside your safe. Please open your unit once every two weeks to avoid moisture accumulation."

"I have had this safe for about 4 months. Recently, I have had problems with the keys sticking when opening the safe, which then locks me out for a period of time. I have not tried to reach the manufacturer, yet but hopefully it will be an easy resolution. Also, I realized too late, that when I rolled the safe accross my hardwood floors, it left wheel marks all over the floor. I do like the size of the safe and the ability to bolt it to the floor. Hopefully, I will never need to test the waterproof feature"

Great except for the shelf

"The safe arrived quickly and in good condition. I love the wheels feature so I can get it where I want it without struggling. Set up was quick and the directions were very clear. The reason for 4 stars is the shelves... they are plastic. I put my grandfather's pistol with case on the shelf and the shelf bowed from the weight. I bought this safe to hold our important paper work and guns. I may end up having to store the paperwork on the shelf and putting my guns on the bottom. Part of why I chose this safe over others is because of the feature to use hanging file folders."

Bought on web larger model.Product is satisfactory; however on FirstAlert web site it was impossible to order an extra shelf via web without calling FirstAlert. The phone rep seemed perplexed/annoyed why I would want an extra shelf. Told him that was not his concern. He put me on hold for 4 minutes and then said I would have to send them a check. How stone-age not to have an order page on their website."

Missing Items - Poor Quality Control
"The safe was delivered and looks nice, but the box was missing the instruction manual, keys, bolts to secure the safe, and batteries. We cannot use the safe until we send a notarized statement ($10 notary cost) to First Alert confirming ownership, serial numbers etc. so we can get the keys and other missing items. They said we could return it to Costco, but it is too heavy to move."

On the first safe had minor damage to the bottom corner - you could see where the container bottom corner was damaged. "If mounting to the floor as provided forget the template . Simply take off the covers to the mounting hole then stick a marker in to mark the mounting location on the floor .Remove the safe from the spot set the mounting bracket over the center of the mark and then mark the other six holes to drill . Mine was mounted into concrete with expansion bolts . Seams to be a very good safe . Current price is much less than any other I have seen of tis model and with more features . Others do not have override keys included or changeable combination ."
