One Problem - Camera Mount

Pros: great equipment great features!
Cons: camera mounting issues and hacker ready!, trying to return one camera
Model Number: LH300
"Beware the back of each camera. The threads are made out of plastic. The bolt that screws into it was cut with shears at the factory. You need to get a metal file and file the end of the bolt flat because the metal is soft and when they used shears to cut it at the factory it makes the metal curved like a cup. If you don't file the bolt flat, you run the risk of stripping the plastic threads on the back of the camera. It happened after I had many other cameras already mounted. Of course you can return it to Costco and get another whole package, but when you already have the wires ran through the walls and attic and other cameras mounted it becomes a NASA SPACE PROJECT to return. I ended up having to purchase a whole other set of four cameras (249.99) instead to avoid hours and hours of uninstalling the whole thing and returning it, ordering another one, and re-installing a whole new package. Once you get past that enormous hurdle the system is great! Don't hook it up to the internet either. If you want true security keep it disconnected from the computer. Hackers have discovered a way to get into your system, find out when you're gone, and rob you blind which defeats purchasing it altogether."

Average System with unreliable Playback.

Pros: adequate video quality for a mid priced system
Cons: cheap mounting hardware, difficult to set up for internet, poor customer support hours of operation, unreliable playback of recorded video segments, cumbersome playback user interface
"I had purchased the 4 camera Lorex from Costco, and I also had the mounting issues with one of the cameras, plastic to metal makes for poor durability, and just does not work.
Then I had issues with the internet port forwarding, I went to their web site and downloaded the port forwarding set-up wizard, and still had issues. Tried to call Lorex for customer support, but discovered they are east coast time zone, and I have been unable to take time off from work to call during the limited east coast working hours for help.
Then playback is intermittent, when trying to review a particular recorded segment, video will play for 8 seconds then crash. Very frustrating as that particular one hour segment was the one I needed for my proof of vandalism!! The other 1 hour recorded segments were fine, but the one I needed was unavailable!! This has intermittently happened on other occasions as well. It's a hit or miss on whether or not you actually can review something.
User interface is tedious, and the DVR would be better if it had a keyboard for password entry. Playback software would be better if you could rapidly scroll through the recorded segments with a click and drag along a time line, like in a U-tube video, to reach the moment of interest in your recording.
Then I lost video channel 1, and had to shift my four cameras over to channels 2 thru 5. It has been 9 months now, and I am completely dissatisfied with my system, and I am about to bite the bullet, cut holes in my ceiling to remove the wiring, and return the system!!

Not as Lorex advertises

Model Number: L23WD
"The system was easy to setup and worked when turned on. I really like how the DVR menus are organized. My complaint is that the Lorex website shows this system with "crisp, broadcast quality images". It most certainly is not like that. All 8 images appear at low resolution and not fully focused. I have contacted Lorex several times and spoke with the technician and the engineer. Both looked at images downloaded from my system and said they were normal. How can that possibly be? I would expect their newest 600 TVL cameras to at least be able to clearly identify a person, but they cannot."

Could be problematic

"This is the second Lorex system that we owned and this one was a gift. Both had the same problem...the camera mount is metal and it screws into plastic. One just stipped off and the camera fell out. Fortunately it was on warranty. I would recommend the Q-See, which has a better mount. We mounted the same AVL line systems (Q-see and Lorex) side by side and the picture was equal. I don't believe that the plastic mount is worth the purchase while the Q-See has metal to metal. Also the DVD is extremely noisy, but it is the same with the Q-See. You just can't mount the DVD in a bedroom."

Don't buy this product

Cons: lorex is the only company to have it fixed
"I would not recommend this product to anybody. I purchased this system 15 months ago. The electricity flickered off and back on again at my home. Since then all I get is a white screen that says Lorex on it. I called costumer service and they said they would fix it but I have to ship it to them and pay them another $450 to $500. I took it to somebody here in my home town to see if they could fix it cheaper. We found out that shipping it to Lorex and having them fix it is the only option you have. No other parts will work and Lorex will not sell parts to anybody."

Just What We Needed

Pros: great system for the money, easy installation
"We received the product whitin a week of ordering it. My husband installed the system without any problems. It is performing as stated in the description of the product. Out of the 8 cameras that we received, one had a problem in that it does not produce the infrared feature. We have no complaints with the system."
