Superior product - Great Customer Service

Pros: great customer service, quick setup and installation
Model Number: QC-448
"My husband and I purchased this system when his work van was tampered with and he wanted to be able to catch a thief. Unfortunately, one of our neighbors was viciously assaulted in her home by a man armed with a knife. When he walked away from the house he happened to walk past our home which has five cameras pointed toward the street. The police had his picture clear as day and he was arrested the following day. He is awaiting trial now.
Because of this, many of our friends, neighbors and business collegues want cameras. We recommend and purchase Q-See for them.
I do the computer configs for remote monitoring. This is not an intuitive thing for me anymore and John Paul from Q-See's customer support has been with me every step of the way! There are many different configurations which can be found due to all the different modem/router combos out there and he has worked me through getting the DVR units out to the internet.
We buy and will continue to buy Q-See. A new set for a friend just arrived about an hour ago.

Solid security system

Pros: night vision., easy installation
Cons: network setup can be confusing.
Model Number: QC448 8 channel DVR system.
"After multiple months of looking for the right security cameras I decided on the QSee system from Costco. My biggest concern was the camera quality after buying a similar system from a local electronics store. The quality of the cameras were horrible and I eventually ended up returning the system.
The Qsee system was very easy to install. The biggest problem was using all 8 cameras. Once the cameras were installed the quality was amazing for both day and night vision. Also, the DVR is very user friendly with the only slightly confusing thing will be the network setup. Especially if you aren't familiar with your router.
Definitely recommend this system."

Good for the Price

Pros: simple software, basic installation without remote monitoring simpl, good quality picture, cheap
Cons: difficult remote monitoring installation, cameras flicking between night/day mode
"Excellent price for a basic home monitoring and deterrent.
Took some time to install and you need to be a bit tech savy.
I do not agree with anyone who said bad things about their support. They were great very patient and BASED in the US which was reflected in their excellent skills and patience to help me set up remote monitoring via my Andriod phone compared to Verizon who connected me to India and was only offering opening the ports if I pay business support fee.

worst company ever

Pros: costco return policy
"buy from costco because the return is awesome. This company gave me the worst experience in my life for support. They did not know I bought from costco and were stalling me around with ridiculous things to do to make their junk work or go past what they thought was the return policy... Wouldn't answer questions as to why it doesn't do what it says it should, just kept sending links to videos that were not my item - marking my support case as resolved each time before even a reply from me."

Good Cameras. Power supplies need more amps

Pros: low cost for the number of cameras., hdmi output is a plus., decent processing power for fps. needs more.
Cons: only so much can be done with analog ntsc cameras., software needs better interface and options.
"The camera power supplies are 2AMP which is just not enough for the IR camera LED's split across 4+ cameras. It should be a 5AMP Power supply.
The cameras now emit a visible red glow which is too far into the visible spectrum. They shouldn't be able to be seen by the naked eye. I hope Q-see keeps upgrading these and moves to a CAT5 multi-megapixel camera PoE system that can reach the mass market for the price range.
pretty good software for the price. But it lacks user-friendly features, and poor translation on some screens."

Worst Purchase Ever

Cons: outdated links, no personal help, user interface less desired, remote working problems, tech support lacking, no email support, software lacking
Model Number: QC448
"I would suggest to stay away from Q-See Products. I purchased the Q-See channel DVR in hopes of their tech support to be helpful. I have made several calls only to get this as a result. You tell them what specific item you are working on and then they send you a link. The links are picture by picture BUT it is outdated and does not even match the DVR you purchased. Some were from 2009. Then you get an email saying issue is resolved even if you reply back and say it isn't you still get the closed reply. Over and over this happened. Going to try one more time working with Costco, because I do believe in them and see if they can help. If not will send back. I found no pros for this product but many con's. I would have rated higher if I could get tech support but what I did get only seems to be system generated by title I use."

Don't waste your money

Pros: none
Cons: low quality product, very bad customer service
Model Number: QC-484
"First, the product quality is very bad. The cameras and the DVR unit may "look" good, but are disastrous when it comes to performance. The resolution of the camera is not what they claim it to be. And the DVR software management is very poorly written and difficult to use. Q-See support is worse than their products. Extreme frustration is the only thing that Q-See seems to be able to offer their customers."

Superior product - Poor Customer Service

Cons: very poor customer service
Model Number: QC448
"great product. clear picture and overall top of the line product. The only drawback and it is a big one is very poor customer service.
After reading the the material included in the package, I had a couple of specific questions to ask customer service. There was no phone number available. I had register and go thru a couple of steps before i was given a phone number to call. After being put on hold for over 15 minutes, a guy comes in and without even listening to my entire question, he put on hold again. After about 10 minutes, he comes back and said he sent me an email with links that will answer my questions!! These links were basically a repeat of the material that they sent with the package. That is it, he would not answer any specific questions. I had to go on the internet and find the solution myself wasting several hours. Really bad customer service."

Ok at first but now problems

Pros: excellent price, a lot of gear for the money, near silent dvr
Cons: quality control issues, clunky software, cameras are larger than necessary
Model Number: QC448
"The unit worked okay at first. Image quality is about average for similar systems. Only got around to installing 4 cameras which is a good thing now. Have had it about a month now and the DVR started to randomly beep and stop recording for half a minute at a time here and there. Chatted with tech support and they had me reformat the drive. After a few hours problem started up again plus it also has started to reboot at random. One of the 4 cameras I installed is a bit out of focus. So at this point I have to either get a RMA to swap out the defective DVR and camera or return it all at Costco. I'm leaning toward swapping it out for another brand also sold by Costco.
If you are a techy type person you should be able to setup the system and remote monitoring, but it is not a very polished system. Occasionally for no reason a camera will not show up on remote viewing and I have to refresh the app to get the camera(s) to appear. Documentation is poor and set up options in DVR are not intuitive. Difficult to det up advanced options without talking to someone in tech support.
For some odd reason the cameras are longer than necessary. The electronics inside are very compact yet the camera case is rather long. This makes them more obtrusive and noticeable than need be.
Costco has a similar system by anther company for $100 less with 4 cameras. I will try that system and then decide if I will exchange or return this Q-See system."

Low quality product

Pros: none
Cons: low quality product, low standard of customer service
Model Number: QC-448
"First, I am not sure how these products could even receive three-star rating. They are made with low standard of quality. While the camera resolution is good, it is not reliable. After a few days in the summer (temp <98 deg F), one of 4 outdoor camera started to blink rapidly then stopped working all together. The DVR unit that comes with the package is more compact and quieter than its predecessors (this is probably the only significant improvement). The user interface has also improved but is less intuitive and the 'search' (playback) feature is frustrating to use (it's difficult to get a specific segment of the recorded clip to play). Now the thing the bothers me the most is the remote monitoring feature using Android device (pad or phone). The software (app) that's provided by Q-see is full of bug and it crashes virtually at every single selection. So, if you are looking for a system that would allow you to remotely monitor your home or office using ipad or an Android device, don't buy this system because the app is very unreliable. While customer service at Costco is good, tech support and customer relations at Q-see is HORRIFIC! They'd waste your time and give you a run-around without any effective resolution. And frustrating customers seems to be the only thing that Q-see is good at."

Don't waste your money

Pros: good in concept
Cons: bad - real bad in reality, very poor customer service, incompetent tech support
Model Number: QC-448
"Based on the 'positive' reviews of this product, we decided to give it a try. The order arrived within the expected time frame (credit to Costco), but there were missing items and a couple of cameras failed within 10 minutes (credit to Q-see quality control). But that wasn't the bad part. The worse (or the worst) part was the customer service and tech support: they are the most incompetent group of people I've dealt with. They didn't and couldn't fix the problem, but only led us around the circle. Then we ended up getting help from online and from our neighbor's 15-year-old! The software that comes on the CD caused our computer to crash and the app that we downloaded for our i-Pad didn't work either (kept crashing). The written instructions for this model seem to be written for some other models."

Disappointed

Pros: easy set-up good picture quality
Cons: windows phone 7 not supported
Model Number: QC448
"Just received this system today and had it up and running in very short order. The picture quality on my computer monitor is pretty good. It looks like I could have been very happy with this system except for the fact that there is no remote monitoring app for Windows Phone 7. I bought this system specifically because the Costco site clearly indicated Windows Phone 7 is supported. Hopefully Costco will correct their web page. Will be returning this item to the store as the remote monitoring is a most desired feature"

Good system for the money

Pros: quality system for a great price
Cons: no bcn to rca adaptor
"I purchased this system to replace a security camera system that I bought and pre-wired in my home 13 years ago which had given up the ghost. The wiring on that system used a RJ-11 connector (same as a telephone but with 6 wires in the cable). After hours of searching on the net I found a a coupler that would transform the RJ-11 conector to a BNC and Power Coupler (needed two for each wire run) but then also had to find a Female - Female 2.1mm power coupler as well (one per wire run), all in order to use my existing wiring so it would be compatible with the connectors that came with this system. I did not consider rewiring my home an option. The set up of the cameras after that was fairly simple as all I had to do was plug them to my existing wiring with the adaptors. Great system and cameras compared to what I previously had and the images from the cameras are sharp and produce really amazing nighttime pictures as well. I had to have my son help with the hooking up to the computer as my router is not Plug and Play. My son is a software engineer and was impressed with the software. I, did NOT get a BNC to RCA coupler as advertized on this website and that would be the only real complaint that I would have with this system. The Q-See app for Android is less than impressive and I downloaded another app that works every time at no cost. Cool to monitor your home security on your cell phone."

Great basic system

Pros: easy to get it working, easy to configure ddns
Cons: manual is rubbish
"Installed 6 of 8 cameras so far. Picture quality is OK, rather than great. Good night vision in b&w, good colour during the day. Painful pulling wires through the house, but overall a great system. I configured it to be managed by an external pc and also viewed through an android phone. All pretty easy, even though the manuals are chinglish."

Good system!

Pros: good value for money
Cons: needs some longer cables
"Everything works as advertised. The hardest part of the installation was running the wires - the rest is just mounting the cameras and plugging them in. The apps for the iPhone and iPad are a real plus. Setting it up to work with the network was a little technical, but I've done that sort of thing before so it was relatively easy also. I wish it came with 2 longer wires - mostly the 60' ones are long enough, but needed longer ones to reach the other side of the house."
