Excellent camera

"I bought this camera to go on vacation and it takes very good pictures and is pretty easy to use. I haven't tried all the features yet but it is easy to operate and I especially like the zoom to get those shots of streets / buildings / mountains / rivers /people etc. It has an easy grip and is not to heavy to carry around. I'm very glad I made this purchase."

Excellent Product

"At the outset, let me say that I do not make product recommendations regardless of how much or little I like a product. Therefore, "NO" has nothing to do with my review of the product.
I wanted a more substantial camera than what I'd been using and, after a lot of research, settled on this Fujifilm. It has excellent reviews on other sites and the price was reasonable. I have had great success with both stills and video.
I don't understand what some reviewers have said about battery life or the use of rechargeable batteries. The camera itself has a setting for alkalines or rechargeables and their use is addressed in the owner's manual. I have used both types and they have had good life. I tend to turn the camera on an off a lot while on long nature walks so I give batteries a real work-out. Do I carry extras? Of course I do, just as I've always done with any camera. I can't imagine what some users may have done to exhaust batteries as quickly as reported.
If I have one complaint it's so small as to be all but inconsequential: The neckstrap is really cheap and the lugs for the strap are too small to accept a better quality strap (or wrist strap)."

eats batteries

Pros: good pics
Cons: eats batteries, on off switch was funky
Model Number: Fuji S4500
"great pictures - too big for me - thought would be fine, but after eating batteries, then having the on/off switch not always work correctly, I got fed up. The zoom pictures came out good and clear. You might like it but be sure to carry extra AA batteries with you."

Acceptable for this price

Pros: 30x room, price, picture quality
Cons: re-chrageable batteries not working, poor panorama
Model Number: Fuji S4500
"Good picture quality. However, it only works with non-rechargeable batteries, if using re-chargable batteries, screen will show batteries exhausted and shut off the camera.
Panorama picture combines 3 pictures as one, but very poor quality. Try Fuji SL300 same poor quality on panorama.

WOW!

Pros: lightweight, sharp photos, reasonable price
Cons: none so far
"I bought this camera to replace my Fuji S1800 which was stolen on a trip to Hawaii. This camera features many of the same features as the S1800, all of which I liked.
So far, I've taken a number of test photos, including video and macro. The picture quality is excellent, even when using the 30X telephoto while handheld. The stabilization system works beautifully.
The camera's light weight and functionality makes it a great camera for most situations and a versitile unit. My friend, a former professional photographer, who uses Nikon equipment couldn't get over the clarity, brilliant colors and sharpness of the photos."

Exhausts battery life

Pros: takes good and clear pictures
Cons: uses up the batteries too quickly, granted a rechargeable battery might have similar, results but i paid for it when i bought the camera, if you can afford it buy a more expensive camera
Model Number: S4500
"I got this camera as a gift and found it takes great photos. However, it takes common AA batteries and the battery life is only a few hours. (I used duracell batteries which normally last a long time, on my kids toys and my other products)
I found myself having to purchase new batteries every day on our recent vacation.
This camera is going back to the store ASAP. Why would a person pay this kind of money and have to buy new batteries after each use? I paid approximately 14.00 for new batteries over a 3 day period. Why would I continue to do that? At that rate, it makes more sense to purchase a more expensive camera

Fujifilm S4500 Camera

Pros: great quality
"A little too early to write a lot, but because of a friend who has the same camera, I'm sure it takes excellent photos. Price was great for the quality and the Costco concierge tech support and strong return policy, how can I lose? I think it was a great buy and great quality."

Poor exposures

Pros: low cost when on sale, would better suit someone with point/shoot needs, well made but for amateurs
Cons: my camera could not make balanced exposures, telephoto lens offers no sharp focus, colors were on the cool side
Model Number: Fujifilm S4500 digital camera
"Me: artist/photographer who owns other digital cameras. Even in its automatic modes this camera would wash out objects in sunlight and muddle objects in shadow usually presenting both problems in the same exposure. Trying the manual mode it was impossible for me to get basic even exposures in normal everyday outdoor lighting. Indoors the flash worked well. The 30X telephoto lens gives a magnified but not-in-focus image at maximum length. Works better with objects close by (within 100 feet). Waiting for the camera to decide upon what it wants to focus on with the shutter button depressed half down is frustrating. The self aligning panoramic feature is fun and works well. I did regretfully return it."

Nice!

Pros: no shake, sharp pics, easy software, memory card included, case included
Cons: have to assemble carry cord on case
Model Number: S4500
"I am truly a novice when it comes to cameras and this one is pretty simple to use right out of the box. I have yet to explore all the features, but I have used the zoom and auto picture taking abilities. Not experiencing any shake in the pics, they are very sharp and the colors are vibrant. I would recommend this camera to even a complete newbie :)"

Great Camera

Model Number: S4500
"Although I am still learning how to use this camera, I am very satisfied with it. Prior reviews that I had read said the zoom was jerky, but this camera's zoom is quite smooth.
This camera was purchased to take on an Alaskan Cruise later this year, until then I will continue to educate myself on how to best utilize the features.

Nice camera - if it works

Pros: costco exchanged it with no problems.
Cons: poor quality control
"An excellent camera for the money. More zoom than I really need. Menus are well done. Good resolution. But the first unit had a dead flash system out of the box. Second one seems to be fine."

Too many negatives for me.

Model Number: S4500 Digital Camera
"For the price, it is a good camera if you need 30x wide angle zoom and the pictures and videos are very good quality but , for me, I found to many things that bothered me. (1} I was told by Fuji tech support that I shouldn't use rechargeable batteries, that this could ruin the camera, and this made it too much trouble and expense to use AA standard batteries. (2) when playing back a video when connected to an HDTV via an HDMI cable, while the video was playing, there is a constant and un-removable box screen that is viewable in the lower left corner of the screen which gives directions and option to fast forward , exit, etc.. That to me, was too large and annoying to view during the playing of the video. (3), there is no "pause" while taking a video, so you can't stop and resume a video. And (4), I have a usb adaptor that allows you to convert the usb to a ac wall plug, so that I won't use all of the battery charge when playing a video on my HDTV, however, the tech, said not to do this, they didn't support it and it would probable ruin the camera. So, that takes away using a ac wall charge, instead of using the batteries while viewing a video from the camera to the HDTV. I decided to return it."

Good Camera for most.

Pros: high zoom, high resolution, good iso (up to 6400), lightweight and fairly easy to use, takes good scenic pictures
Cons: battery life isn't great, pictures could be better
Model Number: 4500s
"I've had this camera for a week or so and have shot various shots from snow covered mountains to my pets to clouds when it's pitch dark at night.
It's not an amazing camera, but for the price I think it's excellent, It could do better with the image stabilization, but with long-zoom cameras such as this it's best to get a tripod anyways.
I'd definitely recommend, but if you plan on taking zoomed-in pictures I would also recommend some sort of a tripod."

Great features, low price.

Model Number: S4500
"Easy to use, takes awsome pictures. I'm no pro, but I've had pros ask me which Digital SLR I was using to take such great pictures, they were suprised when I told them I used the S4500 Superzoom Point & Shoot. Macro and Super Macro give amazing results and the zoom bring the wildlife really close and crisp. In Dec 2011 I bought the Fujifilm S2940 from another BIG BOX store with 18X zoom or 90mm, it just wasn't enough. I paid $50 more for the S4500 and get more than double the zoom. I'm never on the trail without my camera, I've captured Bobcats, Coyotes, Hawks and a wide variety of water birds, all in a days horseback ride. Lite weight and small enough to carry in my horn bag. I love this camera."

Won't stay powered on, keeps shutting off

Pros: i like the grip, light weight, 30x optical zoom, 14mp, price, option of a viewfinder
Cons: if it won't stay on none of the pros matter, feels a little flimsy
Model Number: S4500
"Got it today, put the batteries and card in it, and it keeps turning itself off. I tried putting in Duracells but still same problem. It turns off faster and faster every time.
I'm exchanging it to morrow, hope this was just a fluke.
I'll give it one more chance.
Wish me luck, and same to you if you decide to try one.

What i was looking for

Pros: light weight, ease of operation
Cons: photographic control
Model Number: Fujifilm S4500 Digital Camera
"I was looking for a light weight camera that would take pictures of sufficient quality that they could be used in our club calendar and inexpensive enough that if I dropped it off a cliff, I wouldn't be diving after it..
The picture quality is good. It produced a decent 13X!9 inch print. Excellent color rendition, but compared to my Canon 50D, it lacks image sharpness and photographic control. Then again, it's $1,400 less, and, at 20 ounces, it is also more than 2 pounds lighter.
The electronics of current digital cameras are now good enough across major brands that lens quality is what counts in image sharpness and in cost. This camera squeezes a lot of lens quality out of its cost. The trade off is probably in the heft of construction.
I've tried a number of cameras in this price range and was mostly disappointed in the cycle time (from one picture to the next) and focus time. This camera was best on both counts of the ones I tested.
I have not been out in the field yet and I suspect that the image sharpness issues will be greater with the grand vistas of the West. That said, if you've been taking pictures with your cell phone camera, this one will knock your socks off, and it is light enough that you might just carry it with you.
The included software is bare bones. It gets the pictures out of camera, but that is all I want it to do.
Bottom line: An excellent camera in its price range."

Missing some features I liked on my old Fuji S7000

Pros: 30x optical zoom, 14mp, hd video (short videos), panorama mode, better photos than most point and shoots, 1/4 cost of dslr, aa batteries (not proprietary), improved controls/buttons
Cons: battery only (no power input), can't replace batteries on tripod, can't replace data card on tripod, viewer is eye or lcd only not both, error when powering up with lens cap on (restart!?, battery door flimsy and difficult.
Model Number: S4500
"Just bought this camera kit from Costco today (3/10/12). Taking it back. It isn't broken, but rather I am just very disappointed in this camera, compared to the Fujifilm S7000 I am replacing.
While there are some definite improvements over my old camera (better optical zoom, more megapixels, panorama mode, HD video), there are a ton of features missing and some really inconvenient features.
Because of the power zoom lens, the camera cannot start with the lens cap on. Well, it will turn on, but give you an error forcing you to turn it off and turn it back on.
The cameras battery compartment door is flimsy with an extra "trigger" to open. This makes it hard to open and close. It is also on the bottom of the camera, which means (since it has no a/c jack) you cannot change the batteries while using a tripod.
The SDHC data card is also located in the battery area, which means you can't replace the data card on a tripod.
While lighter, it seems more "plastic" than my old camera.
You cannot have the eye-view and LCD on at the same time.
I do prefer the more traditional zoom control and I like the ability to switch between playback and shoot with the new controls.
I am not a professional photographer, so I don't "need" a dSLR (although I was considering it). When I saw this new Fujifilm S4500 for about 1/4 the cost of a decent dSLR, and since I liked my old FujiFilm S7000 (10 years old - the viewer/sensor went bad in it), I decided to save the cash and just replace what I had that took great shots in the past.
Whoops! Little did I know how many features were missing from this newer model that I preferred on my last one. (data storage on the side, a/c jack). I don't like returning things, but I am afraid this one is going back.
Sorry, FujiFilm! I loved the S7000 since 2002. I wish this camera had been a better replacement for that one."
