Good for a while
Pros: functionality
Cons: camera build quality
"Purchased this in the summer, and it worked great. Now that we're into winter and the snow is blowing, three of the cameras have gotten water in them somehow, so the picture is blurry. I've replaced two of the cameras thus far with higher end QSee cameras, which were more substantial with marginally better picture quality (still 600 lines). The Lorex recorder and functionality are great... but the cameras on this lower end unit are a bit suspect. The higher end Lorex cameras may be better as well, but I haven't used them."

Returned it immediately
Pros: costco accepted the return without a hassle
Cons: you are excited than get let down
Model Number: Lorex 16 CH with 8 600TVL cameras
"Right out of the box, we found that 3 cameras did not work. You are not able to adjust the color/brightness; therefore, if there is a glare you cannot adjust the lighting to enable a visual. We thought the workmanship was very poor. There are 9 screens showing although there is just 8 cameras and you cannot change that."

Nice for small bussiness
Pros: price support
Cons: mobile apps cables
"I bought the item with the intention to protect my store of thieves, and overall it works, but I went an extra mile and with the help of costumer support I set up the DVR remotely to see my cameras out from the store with an iPad with 4G; however, the lorex app needs a better improvement because its made for phones and looks not very good."

Fan is crazy loud
Pros: costco returns are great w/no questions asked
Cons: terrible fan noise
Model Number: LH16812B
"I returned this due to ridiculously loud fan noise. For a product that is used for stealth surveillance this is just silly. If you put this in your attic the electronics will surely die from dust but it is way too loud to have inside. No way does a little foam under it make it silent, not even close. Further, the fans are bound to die too soon due to constant use. Disappointed and still looking for a good system."

Better than the Competitor
Pros: easy set-up
Cons: haven't found one
Model Number: Lorex Eco2 16 Channel Security System with 2TB HD
"I've worked with other surveillance systems before and nothing matches the quality of Lorex. Everything from the cameras to the technical support are top notch. You know once you open the box that you have purchased a quality product that will keep you, your family and/or business safe for years."

Wont work well with Macintosh Computers
Pros: good local viewing from computer using ip address
Cons: poor instructions, cant access when out of wifi range from internet, no tech support, email tech support is a joke
Model Number: LH138000
"The DVR works OK I guess, the instructions are too vague and don't mention some settings that are necessary for motion detection. I cant access the unit from outside my home wifi area. Ive tried to get to their tech support people but have tried twice and both times hung up after 45 minutes on hold. I'm sorry I bought this and don't recommend you do if you own a Mac."

Poor Customer Service, BEWARE!
Pros: good resolution
Cons: extremely poor customer service from lorex
"Purchased because this system was advertised as MAC compatible, so after a $1600. install fee we find out it really isn't! We were able to get it working with little help from customer service, but it doesn't stay connected and we can't access remotely. The unit burnt out after a few months and was replaced, but now one of the cameras isn't working. Customer service is only open 8-5, M-F, eastern time, not much help since we are in the SW and at work during those hours, and you can only leave a message and hope they call back when you are home. These problems have been with Lorex only, not the fault of Costco. Next step notify Costco."

Pros: night vision

"I spend my New Year Day installing the unit I bought on Black Friday. Only got to 4 camera installed, but so far the night vision is excellent. Better screws could be included in the kits."

surprising with the clarity of this camera system
Pros: night time recording is the best
Cons: not a 100% user friendly interface, daytime clarity is just ok
"was shopping around for a good cctv system for my home coz i want to upgrade a 5 yr old Q-see cctv. when to costco saw a samsung cctv system and this lorex system, but the price was $300 more on the samsung system. i can't make up my mind to chose on those two sys. so i bought both to test them out. below is my best result. interface: samsung better. quality of the craftmanship: samsung day time clarity: samsung(richer color) night time clarity:lorez(much more better) if u need a night time recording system, Lorex Eco2 is the best in price and quality. however, if u want something that is user friendly, and only for day time, choose samsung."

Model Number: LH16812B
"Paid almost $1,000 for installation with Installernet as recommended by manufacturer. Asked installer if cameras needed protection from rain, assured they do not. Withing days two cameras not working and I am now being passed around like a football with everybody saying it's nothing to do with them. Do not use Installernet!!!"

Affordable quality
Pros: easy set up., ease of use, e-mails sent w/ snapshot on alarms
Cons: infra-red images are grainy.
Model Number: LH130
"We purchased this product in Austin, TX last month to remotely monitor my 98 year old mother in her home from our home.
This system is extremely easy to setup and intitive to use. The DVR is totally silent and has been running 24x7 without a problem.
Although we monitor the system from our home, we can monitor from a notebook, tablet, iPhone or Mac real-time from any Free Wifi HotSpot making it versatile. This is really helpful if we are travelling.
Since this is used as a monitoring system, and not used to download data, we use the least expensive Timewarner Internet plan available ($21/mo) rather than the 'Standard Plan".
Lorex provides a free DDNS Service with the purchase, which means that you have your own secure means to connect to your DVR "Server" at anytime at no cost.
The system can be quickly configured to send e-mails to your SmartPhone together with a picture of what the camera caught that triggered the 'alarm'. It also allows us to remotely playback anything the cameras have captured over the last month with a few mouse clicks.
The cameras are color and run on infra-red when there is low light conditions or in total darkness, so we can always see see what is happening. The only drawback is that the images are not 100% crystal clear like on your HDTV when in infra-red mode. This is not a defect with the system but simply a limitation of the technology that is used.
The price was a reasonable given that you got a computer (DVR), fully installed software, a free DDNS Service, and 8 color cameras with 60 foot length cables.
So far this is certainly a good purchase. It allows to watch over my mother-in-law in case she falls or has any other difficulty that would otherwise be ignored in an assisted living facility and a heck of a lot cheaper than $7,000 per month."

Horrible software on DVR and worse tech support
Pros: easy set up
Cons: bad tech support, buggy software
Model Number: LH136000
"Cameras go to continuous recording from motion every time I turn on the LCD that the DVR is plugged into. Software has other bugs like the Rec Para will set PreRecord for cameras 10 and above to exactly what camera 1 is set at like the software cannot dicern between those. Tech support closed every online ticket I opened without ever contacting me and did not resolve any of the issues. The online ticketing system is essentially worthless. They dump the call queues constantly. This company is the worst! Their callbacks take on average 36 hours if you even get lucky enough to get a call back. I have been more than patient but I've been struggling with these problems for two months now and they are not resolving."

Review 17 for Lorex Eco2 16 Channel Security System with 500GB Hard Drive and 8 High Resolution Cameras
"We got the other system but the camera seems to be the same for all the systems. They say these camera's are indoor / outdoor. We experienced a heavy rain and 3 out of 4 camera's were not working the following day. Checked with customer service and they are saying it is not water proof and you have to put them in an waterproof encloser. So I returned them to Costco as it was only 33 days old. I look at he review comments before buying them. Please be realistic when you are giving a rating."

Loud Loud Fans on DVR
Pros: good picture quality
Cons: loud fans / loud fans
Model Number: Lorex ECO2 16-Channel
"This unit looks like it will be a good product. I was replacing a Q-see unit do to cameras going bad after 6months. I read how the fans were very loud on this unit but I decided to try it for myself. Cannot here the TV or sleep, the fans are so so loud. I could not believe how loud they were. I have it installed in the Master Bed Room on 42” HDTV. If you plan to hide the DVR in a sound proof area, you should be OK. However, what good is the remote control when you can’t point it at the unit. I will be returning the unit immediately. All brands will have their down falls. Lorex has plastic Cameras, where Q-see’s cameras are made of metal. Yet I got moisture in the Q-see cameras. One thing about technology, it is always advancing. I ordered the Q-see model again. When it fails I will return it for the next great model. One tip to make the returns easy, purchase 500 foot of high quality cable to put in the attic. The 60 foot runs never are long enough. And when you need to return the unit, all you have to do is take down the cameras and the DVR. The wires stay in the attic for the next set of cameras. The original wires get return with the unit. Active Vision sells all of the cable and the connectors to put on it PS. Its funny how most of the reviews for this product are from the Lorex website and are annoymos."

Best Camera and DVR for the money
Pros: excellent value cameras are great daylight&night
Cons: test all cameras and dvr before installation!, origional dvr had bad drive can happen to any mfg
Model Number: LOREX EC02 8 Camera, 8 Channel DVR
"Camera: The camera gives good color picture during average light and good pictures with its built in infrared at night. DVR: has good quality. The DVR offers a lot of features the basic ones are easy. Some of the DVR advanced features can be challenging to learn. Internet: Fairy easy as long as you follow the instructions well. Lorex tech support will set it up for you if you have a problem. Installation: Very straight forward and can be accomplished by a novice. I received no signal loss using a cable I purchased that extended to 120 feet. Lorex states you can go to 300 feet without high performance cables. Competition: I reviewed a lot of systems and originally ordered the Swan security surveillance system the camera quality was poor. Glad I switched to Lorex! Cost: Unless you are willing to pay for professional level cameras at a very high cost stay with this system."

Great Affordable System
Pros: ease of set up and use
Cons: internet access could be easier
Model Number: LH138501
"I purchased this system to not only monitor my home but my husband who is disabled to make sure he was ok while I am away for work. The color captioning is clear, even from my IPhone. The system is easy to install. We created a space for it in our coat closet and ran all wires through our attic. It is out of site, so no ned to make space in my home office or another room. We did require some assistance setting up the remote access via internet. Brian the Tech support person was outstanding and helpful. I will recommend this product to everyone."
