Great but don't get wet

Model Number: WG-1 gps
"Pros: loved the crisp pics, shot out car going 65 mph was clear, photo stitching neat but haven't been able to review results yet, pet recognition cool feature, liked all the features, wish I'd had the chance to try them all out.
Cons: took less than ten underwater shots and the camera Lcd began fogging up with water. I tried drying it out by just letting it sit open but it didn't work afterward. I had followed the booklet instructions to make sure the battery/SD door was shut properly, etc. I didn't subject it to anything it shouldn't have been able to handle. Had bought it for a special trip. Took it back to Costco on return for a refund. But still doesn't make up for all the shots I wasn't able to get of my kids."

Amazing with Everything but speed & Battery life

Pros: waterproof, consistently reliable, many shooting modes, doesn't scratch easily, macro mode is cool, lights around the lens for macro mode
Cons: gps kills the battery life, slow to start and take pictures, slow to focus sometimes, low light pictures are often blurry
Model Number: WG-1 GPS
"This little camera is GREAT! We use it at parties where we've had previous camera get dropped, stepped on, etc.. and Pentax Optio's have kept going (We had a Pentax Optio W90.. the version before they went to WG-1, worked great also until it was stolen).
Picture quality is exactly what you'd expect from a point-and-shoot, the fact that it's a waterproof lens & coverings doesn't detract, add a "film" to coverings, blur, or otherwise distort the images.
Movie Quality is Good as well. The Mic could be better, but again, totally on par with a camera of this type (vs. a real camcorder with external mic, or other options).
Underwater shots are great, we've used this in the hot tub frequently, pools a few times, hot springs, the ocean, and under waterfalls. Scuba diving in silty waters, and backpacking through muddy slot canyons. we've had to clean out the water proof lining on the battery/SD Card slot but water hasn't actually penetrated into these sections
Probably my favorite feature is the MACRO mode however. You can turn the LED's on around the lens to get well-lit macro shots without weird shadows (Sometimes those are nice, but not always). It has a Microscope mode and does a really good job of enlarging small things (We printed flash cards at a 3 point font and would read what they said with this, We looked at snow flakes, and sand crystals, and the dogs nose too, really cool stuff).
Down sides include a huge delay between pushing the power button and being able to take a picture... If you're taking landscape shots or something you'll never notice, but trying to get one of the dog doing something fun, or your wife making a face at something... that's just not going to happen. Start up time is terrible, and focus time isn't as quick as I'd like either. If the camera is already on and in use you can catch those things pretty well, but it's hard to keep the camera on for a long time because.....
Battery life is HORRIBLE with GPS on. I'm talking MAYBE 2 hours of battery time. I purchased 3 extra capacity batteries, a solar charger, a car charger, etc... just so i could keep this guy on... THEN discovered I can turn the GPS off. GPS wasn't a huge selling point here, but it was a cool feature. Instead I take a picture with my Phone (which also has GPS but still lasts MUCH longer than this camera does) and can tag my camera taken pictures later, even if, a little less precisely.
Battery life W/out the GPS is good. I keep the camera in my backpack, or pocket for things going on on Campus i'm not expecting or whatever, and now only change batteries once a month or so when I notice it gets low. I haven't had it die on me at all since turning the GPS off. Costco doesn't seem to sell the version w/out the GPS, but if they did I'd say get that one. the GPS kills the battery too much to be worth more money, They should in fact make it LESS money because of the hassle of having a constantly dead battery!
All in all this is a great camera. I Love it, my wife loves it, and it loves adventure & everything we've thrown at it (including the time we put it on video recording and put it in the birthday cake recording the person blowing out the candles and washing off the frosting and everything!). Worth getting, but make sure to leave the GPS OFF
Also in reply to the other poster... I've never had the lens fog up, or other problems with water intrusion, even in dirty, silty, muddy, or salty water."

excellent Camera, flexible use

Pros: worry free, excellent pictures, super macro close ups, cool time lapse feature, sweet underwater pictures and video!, rugged
Cons: not any that i can think of
"Several years ago, I first bought an older model of this camera, lost it, and needed a replacement.....Replacing with this newer model was a no brainer. Bought this camera elsewhere before Costco had them available( yes i paid more). First of all, this camera gives you the carefree ability to go anywhere and do anything without worrying if its going to get wet or broken in your pocket or bag. We have taken this camera with us everywhere from a pool at Disney World, rainy humid zipline in Nicaragua to sandy beaches in Texas and it takes great pictures. Oh and we strapped it to the front of a 4 wheeler and forgot about it in 100+ weather for 4 hours after filming a run. (filled up the memory card with video of a tree, oh well) Still works great. Friends thought I had a high priced camera seeing the pics. Plenty of pixels for detail. Kids like taking pictures of ants up close and with the super macro and led lights, they look amazing! If i lose this one, buying another...check youtube, people love to use this camera for surfing and diving videos and pics"
