FinePix HS30EXR EXPERIENCE THE EXTREME SHOOTING SENSATION! The ultra-bright, high-precision Fujinon lens boasts a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and an optical zoom range from wide-angle 24mm to 30x telephoto. And, with a remarkable 1cm Super Macro Mode, creative opportunities open up right under your eyes. Producing exceptional resolution across the image plane, from the center to the edges, this lens delivers brilliant Fujinon optical quality across the entire zoom range.   60x Intelligent Zoom Controlled by the convenient Function (Fn) button, the Intelligent Digital Zoom offers an astonishing 60x magnification power, the equivalent of a 1440mm* focal length. In addition to magnifying the image, the EXR sensor intelligently minimizes noise in flat areas and sharpens and enhances contrast in edge areas to create natural clarity and crispness even at super-telephoto magnification. Intelligent Digital Zoom also functions in EXR AUTO mode, to guarantee you exceptional shots with minimal effort.   Advanced Anti-Blur In EXR AUTO mode, Advanced Anti-blur selects optimum sensitivity and harnesses responsiveness of the BSI EXR CMOS sensor, using Multi Frame technology to layer four consecutive frames shot at high speed into a single, sharp, blur-free image with remarkably low noise, even at telephoto zoom settings.   EXR Technology The 1/2-inch BSI (Back Side Illuminated) EXR CMOS sensor combines an impressive 16 megapixels of high-resolution image quality with exceptionally responsive performance. Fujifilm's proprietary pixel and color filter arrays enhance both vertical and horizontal resolution, the key to 3-way capture technology that ensures the best image quality for every scene. Dynamic range has been expanded to 1600%, achieving a new level of imaging performance. The BSI structure results in improved light reception for a significant boost in sensitivity, with available settings up to ISO 12800 for S size. An optimized signal read-out configuration significantly reduces in-sensor noise, achieving a further significant reduction in signal-to-noise ratio. The CMOS format also achieves higher readout speeds and faster image processing, enabling 8fps high-speed continuous shooting at full 16-megapixel resolution.   Full 1080p HD Movies With the ability to shoot full HD video (1920 x 1080p; 30fps/H.264 High Profile) with impressive stereo sound, the FinePix HS30EXR doubles as a high-performance video camera. Improved continuous auto focus is enhanced by facial recognition, to ensure the people in your movies are in focus and properly exposed. Movie scene recognition optimizes settings to take the guesswork out of movie making. The H.264 (MOV) file format combines high quality video with a small file size, for effortless editing on a PC.   Specifications: Effective Pixels: 16 MP 1/2" EXR CMOS Sensor Lens Specifications: 30x Optical zoom lens (24-720mm) 2x Digital zoom (60x total zoom) LCD Monitor: 3.0" TFT LCD (460,000 dot) Electronic Viewfinder: 0.26" (920,000 dot) Motion Video Quality: 1080 HD Video at 30fps Image Stabilization: CMOS Shift Type ISO Sensitivity: Auto, ISO 100 / 200 / 400 / 800 / 1600 / 3200 / 6400 (Image Size M) / 12800 (Image Size S) Images Per Battery Charge: Approx. 600 shots based on CIPA standards Dimensions: W 5.1" x H 3.8" x D 4.9" Weight: Approx. 24.2 oz. including batteries and memory card Storage Media: SD / SDHC / SDXC (UHS-I) Whats Included: Fujifilm HS30EXR Digital Camera Li-ion battery Battery charger Shoulder strap USB cable A/V cable Lens cap and Lens cap cord CD-ROM Owner's manual Lens hood Bonus Kit 8GB SDHC Card Fujifilm Carrying Case Model: HS30EXR

excellent buy

Pros: everything
Cons: can't think of anything significant.
Model Number: Fujifilm HS30 EXR
"I've owned several digital cameras including DSLRs and this camera as as good or better than any of them. I had the Fuji HS10 and bought this for the improved screen and viewfinder plus some of the other advanced features and love the camera. The firmware was up to date so did not have to do anything there. I would recommend printing out the full manual and reading it, this camera has a lot of useful bells and whistles that make picture taking fun again. It takes excellent pictures with low noise and they are sharp, even on full telephoto. The advanced digital zoom they added this year produces good results. The HD movies even when shown on a 42 inch HD TV are excellent just like regular HD movies. Look at the ratings and reviews on the Canon SX50 and you will buy the Fuji HS30EXR. What a great buy this is at Costco, don't miss it."

Overall Very Easy Mid Range Camera

Model Number: HS30 EXR Finepix
"I bought this for myself for Christmas and glad I did. The price can't be beat. I wanted a new digital camera where I didn't have to use a flash which tended to wash out my shots with my old camera. Well this Fujifilm HS30 EXR has done the trick. I mostly use this for product photography in my business and so far it's fantastic.
The features I like are the macro and auto focus and of course no flash needed. I can shoot my product in a full size shot then get up close without having to do a thing, except moving in close (we are talking about 2cm or less) all to get a sharp super clear shot.
If you want to use the manual zoom, quick and easy, same for the flash just push a button. I have also tried the Panarama setting and it worked fine up to 360 degree shot. I have yet to do a shoot with the video option but anxious to do so. Large screen makes it great.
Check out all the options and you will see what this beauty comes with. You also get the lens cap, a lens hood, an 8GB Memory card and a great Case with a strap for the case and one for the camera. Fixed lens so you can't change it out. The EXR technology is Great!"

HS30EXR vs. HS25EXR and others

Pros: 920k dot electronic viewfinder (hs25 has only 200k, 24-720mm (equivalent) manual zoom lens, in-camera hdr (high dynamic range), useful auto-stitiching panorama mode, 3d photo mode (2 pictures- hs25 has none), raw mode (hs25 has jpeg only)
Cons: battery charger has a cord (not fold-out prongs)
Model Number: HS30EXR
"This is an excellent camera for the price. It's currently (10/23/2012) only $20 more than the HS25EXR, and you get a lot more for your money. The HS30 uses a proprietary Lithium-Ion battery that is supposed to get about 600 shots per charge, and the HS25 uses 4 AA NiMH rechargeable batteries, which you must buy separately. Also, the HS30 has a much higher-resolution EVF (electronic viewfinder) than the HS25 (920k dots vs. 200k dots), so the EVF on the HS30 is much more useful than the HS25's.
The HS30EXR has RAW and RAW+JPEG capture modes, automatic Panorama stitching, in-camera HRD (high dynamic range), 3D photo capture (2 exposures combined into one 3D photo (MPO format); the HS25EXR has none of these features (Fuji "crippled" its firmware since it's a lower-priced model than the HS30EXR).
Both cameras use Fuji's 16MP backside-illuminated EXR CMOS sensor, which I have found to be much quietier (less noisy) than competitive sensors; compared to my Panasonic DMC-ZS10, the photos from the Fuji look just as good at ISO 1600 as those from the Panasonic at ISO 400 (the Panasonic looks quite noisy at 1600), although the Fuji is actually putting out 8MP in S/N (low signal-to-noise ratio) mode.
That said, although this sensor is somewhat larger than most, at 1/2 inch it's still smaller than a DSLR sensor, so of course you can't expect as low noise as you'll get from a DSLR.
The same sensor is also found in the smaller point-and-shoot Fuji F505EXR, which is the camera I keep with me at all times; it only has half the tele zoom (15x vs. 30x) and has no EVF, but it's small enough to fit in a belt pouch. The Fuji F6xxEXR and F7xxEXR and F800EXR series also feature the same sensor, with different lenses, and features such as GPS or wireless photo downloading.
Bottom line: It can't be expected to be as good as a DSLR, but if you want DSLR-like features without needing to change lenses, this camera can't be beat for the money. Yes, you can get a low-end DSLR for only about $200 more, but you'll need to buy additional lenses to come close to the zoom range you get with this one, and you still probably won't have as much wide-angle and tele range as you get with the HS30EXR."

Ok for Point and Shoot

"This camera is basically just a glorified point and shoot camera. Basically it is a point and shoot camera that has more features. However, do not expect this to come even come close to DSLR quality. To be honest, personally I would buy a less expensive point and shoot camera and will have equal quality pictures."
