A good deal for a desktop replacement
Pros: usb 3.0 ports, beats audio, n class wireless + gigabit ethernet, multicore i7 gen2 processor
Cons: louder fan, graphics could be better (sufficient for movies)
"I've been using the laptop for a week it works great and it is perfect for what it is.
It doesn't have the best graphics card and I like the styling and weight of the new Envy series better, but this one is exactly what I wanted in a portable desktop replacement. It's fast and multiple cores and big disk are great for multiple boot OSs and/or simultaneously running them. The costco description is incomplete- just take a look at the dv6-6c53cl description on the HP website.

When at home I run it with a universal dock connected to one of the USB 3.0 ports I have my own 2 27" displays, gaming keyboard and 5.1 sound system... So I like the Beats sound, and the laptop display is ok but honestly I don't care about these much. The HD webcam and mic are pretty good and the display and keyboard are adequate for taking on the road. Its got N class wireless and Gigibit Ethernet... The CoolSense feature seems to keep the surface cool, and the fingerprint reader works. Its got HardDrive protection. I like the QuickWeb feature for just getting on the internet fast.
The fan is louder than I'd expect from an "entertainment" PC with Beats. This is the best sounding laptop I've found but it isn't loud enough -it's no boom box. It could use a faster disk and better graphics . It comes with a fair amount of bloatware (I hate trial versions of stuff) I was tempted to delete it all, but look at it closely, you might find something useful."

Very good price for this machine

"I bought this machine and received today itself and tested. As per the prior reviews, I see the issue with the battery, initially it was not charging even i have power cord plugged, and i took out and used only power cord and later i inserted the battery and i see a message that no battery check mark, but once i updated the BIOS version, i do not see any issue. I think you need to call tech support before returning... I am an expert user for laptops and desktops. Very good laptop for this price and also you know the COSTCO sells only good products. I buy items from costco without checking anything if i need it."

Good PC if you don't mind it won't work w battery.

"I purchased this refurbished notebook knowing the potential issues with the battery. I assumed that this problem would have been resolved, but not so. From the start, the notebook didn't boot on or work w/ the battery, but only w/ the AC adapter. I followed all the recommended steps: updated BIOS, performed hard reset, etc. Called Concierge 3x and HP 1x. After all attempts to troubleshoot, HP tech asked me to send it back to the factory. I feel I wasted a lot of time trying to figure this out.
Otherwise it is a good PC and so far I don't see anything else wrong; however, this defeats the portability purpose , so I'll return it to Costco hoping they won't resell it again until this issue is fixed."

It looks like a good deal but not worth
"I have a background in mechanical engineering and have used several laptops in the past ten years: 4 Dell, 1 IBM, 1 Lenovo, 1 Toshiba, and 1 HP. The last one is HP DV6 with AMD 3core. I often fix desktop but rarely fix laptops.
With this computer, I have updated a new bios, Win 7, and tweaked Win7 for a better performance. All update does not help to fix the laptop hangs up when IE hangs up (just test for 2 days).
Pros:
- The specification: I7 second gen, 8GB
- AL frame, sturdy laptop
- Beat Audio
- Cool (not hot)

Bad:
- a battery slot sometimes does not fit well with a battery.
- When IE hangs up, the laptop gets frozen. I only have to press power button to shut down and restart.
- Bad finger reader sensitivity when compared with old HP DV6.
- The volume of Beat audio is not load enough.
- Intel 3000 on-board graphic chip does not perform well on 3D, VDO, or gaming. I heard that Intel 4000 is much better.

worst purchase
"I bought refurbished one. when i first started the screen is flickering. I thought I need to return immediately but next time when I started again it is ok. But some times the flickering is very bad and returning.
2nd thing is battery: very first time battery not charging but after that it started charging."

Gambled and lost
"Thought that I would be lucky and get a working computer like the others who did and got hope that if it didn't work I would be able to update my bios and windows like the previous reviewer did and get it to work. Computer arrived quickly, but had the same issue with the battery. After updating everything the battery still wouldn't charge. HP customer service (after Costco service) said that they would need to have it mailed in, in order to repair the issue. Haven't decided if I am going to mail it in or just return it and buy a working computer."

After a bios update, a great computer
Pros: fast cpu, lot's of memory, big hd
Cons: needed update to fix battery problem
"I had the same problem others described with the battery not charging. I called Costco's concierge support who brought HP support into the call. After a windows update and a bios update, the problem went away, and has never returned. Now it works great and it's been a great computer. I'd given it 5 stars if not for the need to update the bios and Windows."

Two computers/ two non working batteries

"Purchased one of these about two weeks ago. Computer was in great condition but only works while pluged in. When I scroll over the battery icon it says "plugged in and not charging". I like the computer so I purchased another one. The new computer arrived with the same issue. I am going to give it one more try to see if I can find this laptop with a battery that will charge. All in all I would like the laptop if the battery functioned properly."

Great Laptop
Pros: processor speed, 8-16gb ram, bluetooth, widi, stays cool, bright screen

"Bought refurbished, and arrived in pristine condition, basically looked brand new. No blemishes or scratches on the laptop, screen was flawless. Upon using the machine, it is incredibly fast, 950gb of usable storage after it is formatted by HP. 8GB of ram is more than enough for day to day task, and its "future proof" as you can upgrade it to 16GB. Not as much bloatware as previous HP laptops I have bought in the past. This was an upgrade from a first generation i3-330m processor. However, my old 500gb 7200rpm hard drive was a bit faster, but I would rather sacrifice speed for storage. The screen gets plenty bright, speakers sound pretty great for a laptop, and graphics are surprisingly good for the on board intel HD graphics chip. Bluetooth is a great feature to have to pair your phone or even a wireless mouse. By using PerfectDIsk software to defragment my hard drive, boot times are around 30 seconds (also depends how many programs you have running at start-up). In the end, I couldn't be happier with this purchase, my prior HP laptop was also a Costco refurb and that one was a great machine as well."

Won't Buy "Refurbished" Again
Pros: outstanding features for the price
Cons: arrived broken

"I don't know whether the laptop was damaged in shipping (it was not in any of its original packaging and wasn't packed in insulating material) or whether it hadn't been properly "refurbished," but the battery wouldn't charge, and the battery panel was jammed into place and could not be removed.
The computer worked fine while plugged into the outlet, and the HP user manual loaded onto the computer was very helpful. Had the battery worked, it would have been a keeper.
From now on, I'll stick to buying new electronics."
