Good ... and bad

"I had purchased this about 9 months ago. For the price of the bundle, you are getting a lot more than with most other “cases”. The case / battery works as advertized, easily doubling the usable battery life. My iPhone would last maybe 2 days without a re-charge, but that was stretching it. This battery adds about another 2 days, so that I could go for about 4 to 5 days without a charge. It charges quite easily and quickly, and I actually like the fact that it has a micro-USB socket on the bottom. This way I can charge it from any charger, instead of looking for the iPhone specific adapter.
When you charge it, you have to remember to flip the bottom switch so that it will charge the phone’s internal battery first. Unless you flip the switch, it won’t sync with your computer via the cable either. The switch is very flimsy, and after about 6 months, it does not slide on and off very well. So now, even with a little bump, it will switch to the position where the phone charges from the battery. This is very annoying because I keep hearing the little beep when it starts charging the phone, and then all of a sudden it stops. This is a really poor design flaw, and the switch should have been sturdier. The case does tend to make the phone bulkier, but not by much. I never noticed, because I bought this right at the time I got the iPhone 4S, and so have had it on it from day one. It does require you to get a bigger phone case, if you are the type of person who tends to clip the phone to your belt (like I am). There are no provisions for a clip or other fastening device on this case.
I was worried that it would not sync with the micro-USB, but everything works as expected, so you don’t have to keep removing it from the case to sync! They do give you a USB to micro-USB cable, which I use to charge and sync to my computer. You would have problems using devices that need it to be docked, but I don’t dock it with anything anyway, so not a big deal. This may be a limiting factor for you if you need to dock it all the time. Don’t even think about removing the case after you put it on. As many people have pointed out, the top half is very flimsy, and will break. They do give you two in the box, but I have not broken the original one yet, so with care and usual use, it should do fine. It is very hard to slide the phone in and out of the bottom half of the case, especially if you have the front and back “screen” protectors installed. It tends to peel off the protector on the back as you slide it in, so do it carefully.
The case part of it is okay, and has protected the phone from the occasional bumps. The case has a “rubbery” feel, which help prevent it from sliding out of your hand. The “rubber” has worn off the corners, exposing smooth plastic underneath.
The screen protector has also worked well, and they give you two sets.
The enclosed cigarette lighter to USB adapter “looked” good, since it has a very low profile, and at first glance it looked like it had a nice “metal” flip up ring handle to help put it out, but it is cheap plastic, and broke off the first time I pulled. Not a big deal, but since the adapter is low profile, it is tough to pull it out without the handle. I leave mine plugged in all the time, so again, no big deal for me, it may be an issue for you if you are constantly changing out chargers in your car.
In conclusion, it definitely doubles (or more) the battery life of your iPhone. It is good protection, and won’t break with routine use. The bundle with the screen protectors, etc. is a real bargain, considering that you could pay as much for a case without a battery, and almost as much for a set of screen protectors.
The bad: Shoddy construction on the power switch on the bottom of the battery/case that is the limiting factor on how long you would be able to use this case / battery. When the switch finally stops working, you will have to discard the case! Mine works with a lot of effort, and I am sure I am going to break it off soon! Cigarette lighter adapter that works, but “looks” sturdier than it actually is.
Still, a bargain for what you get. Would definitely recommend it, but not sure if I would buy it again; because of the design flaws."

Great battery, crummy case

"I bought 4 of these for family members. I have returned all four due to problems with the case. I have one more, a replacement, that I am going to return for the same problem. The battery is fantastic. It does give you more than twice the normal battery life of the Iphone 4S. The case however does not last. The main problem seems to be the edges of the case cannot withstand normal use. The plastic started to flake off the top edge closest to the screen, the corners near the bottom back of the case started to crack and I had numerous problems trying to sync to itunes through the case. Once I removed the case and used the Iphone sync cable I had no problem.
I just got the Mophie Juice Pack for one family member to replace the Phonesuit and although the battery does not have the same capacity the case looks sturdier."

"The battery case has been a great purchase. I never take it of my phone. Since I tend to use my iPhone a great deal, I run out of power before the day is out. But with the Phonesuit I can get two full days of power without recharging. Its really a great idea. The feel is really nice, sort of rubbery. Great Upgrade

"I purchased this after spending a lot of time reading reviews of several options of battery cases. Phone Suit certainly lives up to the high ratings. I use my phone for multiple functions (apps, music, camera, calls) while enjoying the outdoors and I don't have to worry about running out of battery. The case doesn't add much bulk to the phone and I enjoy the anti fingerprint finish. The screen shield does present a bit of a challenge getting it applied without dust particles between the phone's screen and the underside of the shield. I ended up having to use both shields provided to get it on properly without any bubbles. The shield also does resist the ugly fingerprints required to navigate the phone's menus."

Nice effort, poor execution

"I'll start with the good:
1. This case does extend battery life as advertised. I use my phone a TON for work and I have not gone through both the iphone battery and the case battery in one day on a full charge. On light use, you could probably get through 2 or 3 days without plugging this in. It's that legit.
2. Micro USB connectivity is really awesome to have. I was weary of this at first, but it has been one of my favorite features. Everything else other than apple products take micro usb for connecting and charging and that means there is a way to charge your phone everywhere you go if you are in a pinch. Also, this means when I go on a trip I only need one cord for my Kindle and iphone.
3. I actually like the weight and size. This is just a personal preference. For your own assessment know that: It essentially doubles the thickness (which makes it easier for me to hold) and basically doubles the weight (which is to be expected because the heaviest part of an iphone is the battery).
Now the bad parts:
I am dumbfounded that there are not more reviews conveying the poor construction/materials of this product. I have a feeling that most people that wrote a review have not owned the product for very long. I admit that I might be a little harder on my phone than some, but I assure you I am certainly not as hard as others. I have owned the case for over a year. Let me summarize the problems:

1. The top "clip" - If you have any ideas of taking off and putting this case on with any regularity (using it just in certain situations), DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. No matter how careful and gentle you are with it, the top clip WILL break just from pulling it off and on. It is made of a brittle hard plastic and has very delicate and thin portions. After breaking about 3 of these just from taking them off, I stopped and just left it on full time. Even then, just a little drop or bang on the counter and it will break. I know this is a problem because they send 2 (which is laughable) and when I broke the second one a month or two into owning it I called phonesuit and they sent me 4 without any hassle. They know how brittle these are. 6 clips got me through maybe 4 months of use.
2. The entire case broke at the seam after a relatively light drop on my hardwood floor. This caused the "guts" to fall out. I snapped it back together, but just the slightest knock after that caused it to do this again and again. Eventually I lost the status button and the switch to turn the case battery on is now glitchy.
3. The plastic that they have chosen for this is hard and brittle. I have no idea why this isn't a rubberized soft case (at least in some areas). The material makes any drop or impact way worse, not to mention does a ton of damage to the case itself."

The charger works as described...kinda

"I give this 3 stars because it mostly works as advertised. With that being said, I don't see how it extends the life of an iPhone battery. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but whether you use the phone suit, or a regular charger, you are still charging the battery thus decreasing the life expectancy of it. Also, don't be misled that it uses less battery power, as that is not the case. It works as a portable battery...and that's it. Also, It does not make for a very protective case."

Suits my iPhone

"It has been a week now since I have had this Phone Suit and so far it has performed like it is supposed to. It charges really fast within 2 hours and once I switch it to battery mode after my iPhone is depleted, it offers a 100% charge on to the battery right away. Overall the design is great, it is slim enough to keep the iPhone's feature intact. The only drawback is the sheer weight it adds to the back side due to the battery. They could have padded the edges a little bit more to protect it from damage in the front, however it would have taken the overall look away from the iPhone so it is a give and take situation in this case between battery life and protection. I realize you can't have everything but Phone Suit did a good job in creating a product that would suit my needs in battery life and appearance."

Cool product with one significant negative

"I was going to upload a photo to show what I mean, but that doesn't appear to be an option here.
Just got this product (referring to the case/charger specifically) - cool idea. Mixed execution.
I didn't look closely enough in advance or think about this issue. The cover doesn't result in the same type of slot, and thus you can't plug your iPhone into other items while the "battery cover" is on. For example, while working I dock my iPhone on a stand which plugs into my computer (allowing the iPhone to stand up right for good speaker phone usage and viewing and also performs syncing and charges); or into a small speaker for better sound (background music, Skype, etc.).
Because the battery cover requires a different type connector, you can't use any of these types of items."

Great Battery life, compact size

"I am such a fan of this battery case, it's very compact and has a great deal of power. I owned the Mophie, but it really adds bulk to the iPhone, and it kept malfunctioning. I decided to try the PhoneSuit and I like it so much better. It might be hard to tell in pictures, but really is small for a battery case."

"This is what I wrote to Costco
As a loyal Costco customer, I am informing your office about (product # 659367) which has a manufacture defect.
On April 30,2012 I made an online purchase of item # 659367.
Problem with the product is that the home charger wire that fits in to the unit (Micro USB port) is very loose and I have to hold it in a certain angle for it to work.
This is a brand new product and the home charge is in excellent condition. Its been less that 10 days.

On May 09,2012 at 11:50 AM (PST) I contact the manufacture PhoneSuite 877-886-SUIT (7848) and spoke to Phonesuite employee who answered the phone and I told him that I already have the (above) problem with the USB cable and the Micro USB port which charges the phone case.
I told Phonesuite employee that the cable is brand new and it's already lose in the USB socket which I have to hold the cable (that fits in to the case) in an certain angle in order for it to charge. As soon as I let go of the home charger cable, it no longer charges the battery case.
***** Phonesuite employee told me that he receives a lot of calls from others regarding the same issue.
The reason I am taking the time to write to your office is because I am a loyal member and I believe in Costco products, but more importantly it is important for your office to make a decision to either continue or to stop offering this item to your members which is a manufacture defect.
Obviously this problem is with the manufacture and from what I was told is that it might be because it's made overseas.
Today On May 09,2012 at 12:11 PM (PST) I called Costco online Dept and spoke to an employee and told her about my experience and she said she will notate the account and inform the right parties at Costco.
Please be advised that I had told my friends and family members to hold off on buying this items until I test it.
Unfortunately I must inform them Not to buy this product from Costco or any other store.
Thank you for your help and support."
