Best laptop for the price

Pros: inexspensive, fast, quiet, nice screen, plays higher end games well, good sound system
Cons: charging cable is inadequate for high performance
Model Number: Pavilion dv7
"This laptop exceeds all expectations for a laptop of 1000 dollars. With the fingerprint scanner, faster than average computing speed, gaming capability, sound system, comfort of keyboard, I could not be any happier. I am completely satisfied with this purchase. The screen is the perfect brightness and when gaming it could not possible look any better than it already does."

Excellent all around

Pros: awesome, priced fair, great performance
Cons: long drive to get it home and play with it.
Model Number: dv7-6C23CL
"I was looking for a replacement for my aging Dell Latitude D530, I wanted to go much bigger to the 17.3' screen. I was looking at the Dell 17r series, but when i saw the HP with the AMD A8 processor I was in awe of what it could do! I took it home and right away installed Fallout 3 to see how it would run, not a problem. The Radeon graphics card is excellent and offers excellent performance. Battery life is better than expected, as well as the 6GB of ram and the 750GB HDD. If I needed another one, I would get this setup again!"

Many Features Not Mentioned

Pros: 3.0 usb port, instant-internet feature / button, windows 7 home premium, beats audio with subwoofer, hp coolsense, sd card port, hdmi port, vga port, fast cd/dvd writer
Cons: glossy reflective screen like many puters
Model Number: dv7-6c23cl
"I may be wrong, but this should be considered an Ultrabook, with its wide 17.3" LED screen, and full keyboard with 10-key and high end AMD processor.
Includes Windows 7 Home Premium! I love the speed of boot-up and of course its flawless compared to past Microsoft Operating Systems. I still use my old Office 2002 Software (amongst others) and it runs fine on Windows 7 Home Premium.
If you need to tote a puter to class or work, then you may want skip this model and purchase a thinner lighter puter, otherwise this is a great puter to tote around the house. If weight is important for you, then buy a puter less than 5lbs. This is not a portable or lightweight puter for daily toting.
The brushed aluminum finish is nice and modern. Doesn't show fingerprints like those sleek high gloss black models that I've owned. I am sure the brushed aluminum was used to help dissipate heat from the processor like a heat sink, a very multifunctional design feature. It also features a new CoolSense technology that adjusts the quiet fan on different occasions. This puter runs way cooler than my previous lower processor powered HP puter. I don't like HOT puters that vent HOT air constantly like you're sitting next to a blow dryer.
The keyboard features soft separated keys. My big fingers/hands love the separated keys on the keyboard to make typing easier. The keys don't click like a cheap keyboard. The track-pad is multifunctional and multi-gestured. You can use 2 fingers for scrolling, and zooming, etc. One day I'll get used to using the new features rather than the old way of clicking on the mouse buttons all the time.
Windows Media Center has vastly improved and not buggy. I am not a big TV watcher, but this is the first computer that I looked at the Windows Media Center to review the Internet TV. There are lots of shows, news, comedies you can watch. The guide is filled with all kinds of things to watch instantly (while on a WiFi network). I like playing my Mp3 library with Windows Media Center. I like the way the screen shows all the artwork while playing tunes.
The battery lasts a lot longer than I thought it would. If you turn down the brightness of your puter to a level that's comfortable, then you'll be amazed at how much longer the battery will last. The battery also features a little button that you can press to show 4 lights on the batter for energy level. The battery is designed to help prop up the puter to allow more air to flow under it to keep it cool. I usually prop up my computers with pads, but now HP finally made a design that props it up on its own. So far I haven't noticed the puter get warm.
There are many features that aren't fully explained in specs, that I found amazing, like the instant-net button(to the right of the power button). When you don't need a full puter running, just internet browsing and more.
The fingerprint reader was vastly improvement from my previous HP puter with the feature. Love that I can set the fingerprint reader to log-in to different sites and other actions, using different fingers.
The 17.3" wide LED screen is sharp and crisp. The blacks looks very black, and whites look very white. I will be glad when the trend of non-glossy screens come back in style. Your eyes have to compensate for the reflections that show on your screen, but I guess we all get used to it. This is my first computer where I don't use the brightness at its highest setting. Within the house, my eyes are much more relaxed using this puter at its lowest brightness setting.
This model has a subwoofer on the bottom! Try listening to it on a glass table top for ultimate sound reflection. You may find that the sound emits better sound than your TV. Yep it has Beats Audio, and its the best sounding Ultrabook I've ever owned. While an Ultrabook will never replace the sound from your Home Theater system, if you want HQ sound, I'll attach this puter to my Home Audio System for full sound or use the best Headphones.
For testing, I quickly created a System Repair Disc with its CD/DVD writer. The CD/DVD writer is way faster at writing than my previous models. Its the first time I've touched a CD is a while, as I only use MP3s and DVRs. It felt so retro.
The one thing I had to have on my new puter was a 3.0 USB port and this has one. I use it with my 3.0 USB Flash Drives and my 3.0 USB External Drives for quicker backups. Also great to use with my 2.0 USB Flash Drives as its does improve transfer speed. Yes this model also has three 2.0 USB Ports and a SD Card Slot."
