Great product

"You can charge this with your computer and take on the road and charge your cell phone or other devices. You can also use the batteries and recharge them if you want to use it that way. It even has a built in flashlight. I use ti on hiking trips to charge my phone a couple of times
To recharge just plug into a USB on and computer"

Works great with Nomad 7

Pros: light weight, durable, compact
Cons: goal 0 = poor customer support
Model Number: Guide 10
"A strong wind blew it and my solar panel off the table I was charging it on and it's still working great with no visible sign of damage.
NIMH batteries with Low Self Discharge. This means they last on the shelf for a year or so before they lose charge. And they don't have "memory" issues. Charge at any time.
This charger is designed for and works best with the Goal 0 Nomad 7 solar panel. Why? The output of the solar panel for this specific charger using the special power port is 6.5V and a regular USB is only 5V. The Nomad 7 charges at the best Volts possible for 4 NIMH (which is why you need all 4 in the slots) batteries, however the amp rate is a tiny bit high at just about 1.5 amps in full direct sun with panels aimed perfectly.
Battery charging pro's might suggest a charge rate of 1 amp (& 6.5V) for optimum durability of the battery. However... given the differing light and sun conditions, the most likely changes are that you will be charging at this amp rate anyway, because of clouds or less than perfect panel aim, result in the same volts but lower amps.
3 to 5 full charge discharge cycles are required before you get full capacity of your new batteries.
I use a hot/cold food bag to house my device being charged. This lowers the temperature 30-50 degrees on the device in my situation. (Panels were over 140F and inside of bag was 90F outside air at 84)
Charging heat for these batteries (LSD NIMH) should not be above 113 degrees F. You should open the battery door while charging to reduce the heat. With the door closed they reach 117-120 degrees F or more, open the door reduces the heat to acceptable levels as long as you use a cold bag or keep the charger out of the direct sun.
Its the nature of (LSD) NIMH batteries and how they work, it's not a design flaw.
My first charge took 6 hours using a Nomad 7 on a partly cloudy day.
Discharge...
8.25 Hours using a Goal 0 Luna LED light bar with 10 LEDs.
Charging an additional device,
The best practice is to use a Goal 0 Nomad 7 panel, plugged into this Guide 10 with special and included cable. Then charge your additional device (such as iPod or cell phone) from the Guide 10 USB out port. This optimizes all the volts and amps and charging available from the Nomad 7, while charging the phone or?
Our Costco has Sanyo eneloop NIMH batteries too, which work with this charger.
LSD NIMH batteries like this (Sanyo uses solar to charge from the factory) actually last longer than Alkaline and can be recharged around 1500 times, with a 3 year shelf life.
So this Guide 10 charger and Nomad 7 solar panel is an almost perfect combination for charging NIMH LSD batteries. (perfect would be smart cell diagnostics on each cell and temp cut out to prevent over heat with door closed)"

Goal Zero support tried, but no help.

Model Number: Guide 10. Ver. 1.1
"I had high hopes, but this version of the Guide 10 would not charge my IPad. I think I will be returning this and purchasing the Guide 10 "Plus" version . GZ support tells me the "Plus" should do the job."

Good Idea - terrible company support

"I purchased this product recently and still own. Batteries do not hold a charge very long even when using companies OWN Led Light bar. Non existant company support when calling - rude customer service. This product is going back to Costco on my nexst visit."

Good backup

"I take the commuter train daily and when I am not able to get a live outlet for a low battery on my phone or ipod I plug this in for extra charge. It's handy and though add some weight to my bag it is good insurance so that I do not need to have a discharged battery."
