Not Waterproof.

Pros: nice features.
Cons: not easy to see framed pic on sunlit ocean
Model Number: XP50
"I am updating my review "Thar be Whales Captain!" here:
As a standup paddle boarder it is not my goal to get wet. But it does on occasion happen. After 6 weeks of use in the ocean I took a spill. The camera took on water. Professionally I am an instrument use and troubleshooting specialist. I did not fail in my duties to properly seal the camera up. (the camera even reminds you to make sure it is sealed up properly) I was at the surface and the camera was tethered to my PFD. In the water less than 2 minutes. got home went to download the memory card. Noted water droplets under the lens area. Totally bummed. I was in love with the idea of this camera.

Easy to use & works like a charm

Pros: great pictures, easy to use, point and shoot
Cons: battery life too short (video really kills battery
Model Number: XP50
"Used this camera whitewater rafting, waterskiing and out in the rain. Picture quality is excellent and the camera is intuitive. I had this camera in the water while rafting and took pictures from the water. The strap with the floatation device made me more comfortable and its easy to connect to the camera. I have just used the automatic settings and haven't yet wondered into all the mutliple settings that can be adjusted."

Disappointment

Pros: looks tough
Cons: image quality
Model Number: Fujifilm FinePix XP50
"I always maintained that there are no bad cameras any longer , only bad photographers. Well, I was wrong. They do. I used this camera for one weekend and images shot outdoors with plenty of light came out with so much noise, it is unacceptable. I did not expects top notch performance from such inexpensive camera, just passable would have been enough but it failed badly. I am a long time experienced photographer and know what to expect and what not. I owned many cameras in my life, but nothing was so poor."

Poor video quality

Pros: water proof
Cons: poor quality video
"Picture quality is OK on land, but not under water. Also the video quality is poor. It is not smoothly continuous video. The video is choppy. It looks like fram to fram pictures. I have tried far away video ocean and closer kids play, but none of them can compare with my other compacted cameras. I am glad that I got this in Costco. It has been returned."

Good Camera - so far

Pros: good price, good pics and video
Cons: door latch problem
Model Number: Fuji XP50
"Bought this camera after field testing the Go Pro Naked. It takes better underwater pictures than the Go Pro for less money. Go Pro is not designed for snorkeling unless you buy the additional housing for an additional $50. Then you have to wear it on your head. This camera is complicated at first and makes you want to return it because of all the available settings. However, once one delves into it, it becomes easier to use. I pool and sea tested it for clarity and am pleased with the photogs and video. It comes with software, but if you have Windows 7 all the files are compatible; I uninstalled the software - didn't need it. The Go Pro shoots in mp4 and needs to be converted to avi or mov (PC or MAC) before cutting a DVD or manipulating the files. After two weeks I had a problem with the door latches. The door's latch housing seals the camera, but the latches themselves are subject to flooding. When I tried to open them they were stuck. Apparently they corroded to the point of sticking. I put one drop of 3-in-1 oil in the button area of the latches and squirted some W-2 into the inside lip of the door; between the housing and the outer door plate. There is a small slit type opening on one side and just inside. After manipulating the latches several times they freed up and were back to factory feel. Research showed me they had a problem with prior models leaking and the secondary latch apparently was added to alleviate this; they should have lubricated with waterproof grease.
I like the camera enough to this repair myself. I have invested in an additional battery and a Class 10 16G memory card. I also made a floatable hand camera grip device because my fingers have tendency to get into the lens area. If I did all this you know I keeping it!

Does what it says it can do

"I love this camera! It was very reasonably priced, came with the memory card, case, regular and floating strap, and free costco photos for when I get back from my trip. The battery life is great. The camera went under water like a champ. I took pictures of my black dog, indoors, and you can see the details of his fur! Wow! Also, there's very little delay when you take the pictures. I love it! Thanks, Costco. This is my new favorite gadget!"

No HDMI cable. It's a USP to your PC

Cons: instructions missing the float device
"The ad says it comes with "A handy Micro HDMI connection lets you plug the camera directly into your TV or entertainment system". This is NOT true, as the same Costco.com add states later that it has a "USB Cable" [for your PC connection ONLY].
The other problem is the instructions. It comes with a Neoprene Action Case and a floation thinging. But the instructions don't mention it. And I'm clueless on how to attach it'slittle baby PFD device to the camera so it doesn't drown in the pool!"

Its okay but not great

Pros: cheap price, waterproof works, take anywhere, nice package of extras mean nothing extra to buy
Cons: less than stellar pictures, limited lifespan
Model Number: XP 50
"This camera is among a group of waterproof point and shoot cameras that are also shockproof and freeze proof. Now the problem with all cameras that fall into this category is that they all use CMOS sensors that will not freeze. This type of sensor produces less than pleasing pictures, does not matter what manufacturer they are similar results (do a check of online reviews). With that in mind this camera is not a bad deal if you figure it will take at least another two years for the manufacturers to get the CMOS sensor right. Where as others cost upwards of $200 this looks like a cheap stop gap until better picture quality comes around."

Camera failed within 15 minutes

Model Number: FinePix XP50
"Chose this one over a more expensive water proof camera for the reasonable price....my kids were going to be taking it to camp and on a backpacking trip and did not want to spend a lot of money on a camera in fear they would loose it. Got the camera out of the packaging and noticed immediately it had a cheap "feel" to it. Within 15 minutesof using the camera....taking test shots, etc.....it froze. It would not take a picture, the screen was blank, I could not turn it off, etc. The only indication that it was even on was an orange light that was on. It also became very hot. I was only taking pictures around the house...not using it in the water or anything. I never did get it to turn off....guess the battery eventually wore out. Returned it the next day. I'd give it a -0- rating if I could."

PERFECT Camera!

"This has given us ZERO problems. It worked perfect in the pool, down waterslides, filming snow, filming water, in the ocean and on the beach. It is simple to use, pics come out clear and under water, amazing! For non vacation times, our kids have a blast filming droplets coming out of the tap, splashing their toys etc. We love it too. For the price, it can't be beat. Great, easy, simple camera. HIGHLY recommend. We are getting another."

Good pix, great HD video, but delicate

Pros: great pix, great video, easy to use
Cons: too fragile
"I got this camera right before a beach vacation. On day 2 of very light handling and use, the zoom button stopped functioning properly. The camera continued to take pictures, the zoom just lost it's springy feel and gave me 2 options: be zoomed all the way in or be zoomed all the way out, nothing in between. Also the hook where the strap attaches to the camera is next to the panel where the battery and SD card goes, so I did get it caught in there once, although very little water actually got in thanks to 2 sturdy latches on that compartment. I wiped it out and left it open to dry overnight and it was fine. I wish this camera had worked out, but I will have to return it and choose another model since it broke so easily."

Excellent!

Pros: size- performance- and durabilty., included accesories are great!, awesome apperance
Cons: rechargable battery dies quickly in video mode.
Model Number: XP50
"Okay, So I am not a professional photographer, nor am I a camera freak.
I am simply a father who was looking to get some good shots of the kids while on our vacation to Cabo San lucas. I wanted underwater ability and durabilty. I got so much more in this camera! Not only was I able to snap off more than 1000 quality photos because of the included 8GB card, but the pictures and video came out beyond my expectations.
The included camera life jacket was awesome too! It gave me some peice of mind when handing it off to other people while in the water, because it does not float.
I will be honest, if I was not happy, my intentions where to take the camera back. But I am thrilled with it and will be keeping this one. The size is perfect to throw in your pocket! I can really see using this camera for so many more occasions. I love my bigger cameras, but this one is just as good. I am sure the others have there pluses over this one. But for me, it is more than I was looking for out of a take along adventure camera. Very Happy!!!!
Costco has done it again, they offered a quality item at a great price! Thank you!
