good but check the specs

Model Number: Dell XPS 8500 Desktop
"Every time I buy a new PC I think this will be the one that lets me fly through everything I do like when the world was new. This one almost got me there. At the top of my fly-through list was video capture and editing from my old mini DV camcorder which I have been putting off for 10 years, hoping for a really fast machine with lots of space to make the job easy. This one made the grade in all respects except that it does not come with a firewire port. In all fairness to the manufacturer, this is no longer needed to import video from any device I can think of, so one cannot really fault them for not including it. I purchased and installed a card from Dell that fixed the problem without much trouble and life is now fine. If you need a firewire port, better order the card . A second limitation of this system is that it will not use a 5GHz wireless network if you have one in your home. The 2.4GHz is fine, but the lack of 5G would seem to be a mismatch with the high level of performance in all other aspects of this system. This cost it the 5th star.
This system arrived sooner than expected and was easy to set up. The case is not unsightly and is easily opened and has enough space to install hardware easily. With Office installed and other features, I thought this was a really good buy. If you have not used a PC with a solid state drive, get this. Like the world is new, really!

Great promse, bad delivery

Pros: lightning speed, quick start-ups of system and applications
Cons: linadequate tech support from dell
Model Number: XPS 8500
"I am not a techie, but I believe I am a sopisticated user. I chose this machine and configuration based on my needs, good reviews, and past experience with Dell computers. I am disappointed - with Dell,s technical support and foillow-through. Order fulfillment took longer than I had exopected (over a week from order to ship date,-over 2 weeks until delivery. The machine had a major defect right out of the box; the computer would shut down and restart without warning. A week of back-and-forth with Dell tech support including a "system reset" could not resolbve the problem. I insisted that Dell replace the entire unit, which they reluctantly agreed to do. After four days I have not received confirmation the replacement of statue update. I am out of patience, and returning the unit to Costco. I will decide what to buy as an alternative in a couple of months."

Poor Quality

Pros: great price
Cons: doa until i fixed it
Model Number: Dell XPS 8500
"Just got the XPS 8500 and was excited to boot it up. As I removed it from the box there was a definite rattle inside the case. After I opened the case I found a loose PCB laying on the bottom of the case. I finally figured out the location where it belonged and realized that the screws that should have held it in place where missing. So much for Dell quality and manufacturing excellence. Once I inserted it in the correct slot, the computer appears to work as advertised, but it's left me wondering what else wasn't manufactured correctly."

Dead on arrival

Pros: great customer service
Cons: did not work right out of the box.
"Unfortunately when this computer arrived today it was unable to boot up. I called Dell and their customer service was great, they even walked me through opening up the computer to check the parts inside but we couldn't fix it.
Since it was still under warranty they were willing to send a tech to my house to fix it free of charge, but I am opting to return it as I am afraid this would just be the start of many problems yet to come. Makes me sad, but there you go."

Dell Consistency

Pros: 16 gb memory and 2 tb hard drive
Cons: pre-loaded virus software
Model Number: Dell XPS
"So far, everything has been great. Very easy setup. Fully deleted some of the pre-loaded software before transferring my files and programs. I could have purchased the same basic configuration from ZT through Costco but too many friends have struggled with consistent performance with ZT. Dell is more expensive but worth it in the long run. 16 GB memory and 2 TB hard drive should serve me well in furture."

Great computer!

Pros: fast
Cons: blu-ray playback software not pre-installed
Model Number: XPS
"So far the computer is great. Very fast. The only issue so far was that there was no Blu-ray playback software installed. I let the Dell tech take control remotely and he verified. Service was very good and they sent software out. I received today (next business day)."

Mostly Good

"As a whole this computer performs as it should. I selected 3 strars and NO for recommend to a friend due to my "BUT" below.
I am able to perform all basic operations quickly, multi-task without issue, reboot/boot up very quickly, play one of the latest MMORPGs without issue, stream data over internal network with ease ... BUT
And this is why I may return this item ... No Supplied Blu-ray Softwate. This means you much purchase additional software to even play a Blu-ray. PowerDVD works well from what I hear but do you really want to shell out another $100."

I Was Shipped A Non Functioning Computer

Pros: good customer support
Cons: poor quality control
Model Number: Dell XPS 8500 Desktop
"This desktop arrived and would not boot. With help from Dell/Costco's customer service, we discovered that the hardware drivers as well as software had not been loaded on the PC prior to shipping. There are no discs sent with the unit and therefore it needs to be sent back to Costco or have the CD's shipped to me and loaded myself to work. A replacement PC will take another 2 weeks to arrive, as they are manufactured overseas after the order is placed. Customer service through Costco/Dell was excellent, but the bottom line is that this just shouldn't happen; particularly when considering the cost of the unit and time dealing with this that I'll never get back."
