Excellent beginer ukulele

Pros: great package easy to use tuner
Cons: none
"My son got it a week ago and he can't put it down. He had another ukulele but this one is much easier to play, the bridge height is just right and the sound is great"

Decent Ukulele

"This is an attractive instrument. Koa is a nice wood for a musical instrument. The sound is good. So, all in all the ukulele is very playable and pleasing. The tuner works well and is simple to use. The case is a decent gig bag, albeit a bit bright. The instruction book leaves a lot to be desired. But, the instrument, tuner and gig bag are a good value."

Nice materials and good tone

Pros: wood finish tone embelishments bindings tuners
Cons: dirt cheap case one of the two cases has bad zipp
Model Number: K2-C
"We purchased two. This was a bit of a surprise. Materials used were impressive and the tone and machine tuners are good quality. Cases are poor, cheap and of little quality and therefore imbed very little cost to the purchase. Double zippered case on one was good, the other has a zipper that is jacked up on one of the pulls and is unusable. The other pull works but it is inconvenient but we can live with it. Cases are too thin to provide good protection from bumps but I'd rather be getting bang for my buck on the Ukes not the cases."

Pretty and Loads of Fun

Pros: nice looking, well made, sounds good - especially with better strings, tuner and gig bag included
Cons: the manual stinks!
Model Number: K2-C
"I bought the K2-C ukulele on a whim at the local Costco and I've been having lots of fun with it. First of all, the ukulele looks great! The brown wood, satin finish, and dark abalone binding trim is really handsome. Even though the uke is made with laminate (plywood) it appears to be well made, and resonates well. It sounds good, and the frets seem to be accurately placed and not too difficult to finger. Within two days of buying the ukulele I replaced the hard black nylon strings with a set of white Aquila Nylgut strings. They're easier to see, and sound louder and brighter. It will cost you eight dollars or so at your local music store, but you'll hear the difference.
The tuner that came with the ukulele is accurate but there's no indication when you're getting close to being in tune. There are only three indicator LED's; flat sharp, and in tune. It's good enough if you understand the concept of tuning, but if you're a novice you may be frustrated for a while until you get used to it.
The gig bag is lightly padded, but adequate for protecting the ukulele from light bumps and dust. I like the blue color and Kohala logo. It's distinctive and stands out from the plain black gig bags that come with most instruments.
My one gripe about the Kohala Ukulele kit is the "Instruction Booklet". It's terrible! It's written in pidgin English that's unreadable. The only place where the tuning is explained (G,C,E,A) is scrawled on the illustration of the ukulele near the headstock on page three! There are no tunes in the booklet, only three chord patterns that demonstrate a sort of country groove, a fifties rock chord progression and a Hawaiian vibe groove. Only sixteen chords are illustrated in the booklet. Come on Kohala, you could have created a better manual in less time than it took to write that eight pages of junk! Fortunately, if you have access to the internet, you'll find a wealth of ukulele beginner instructions with tuning instructions, tons of songs, and videos. Just don't expect any help from the instruction booklet."
