I now realize I've never really had knives before!

"I got these before the holidays on one of the "24 Days of Christmas" specials (to me, from me, with love!) and remain thrilled at the quality and variety of this knife set. We've used every knife and the scissors - the knives are SHARP and glide through everything! Nice bonus for our tiny kitchen is the small footprint of the knife block. GREAT deal and we expect these to last for years."

Great knives and great service
"I bought the F-16 set, just a couple more knives than the set shown. The knives are great, time will tell of course, but the service from Rich is outstanding. The swiveling, upright knife block my set came with looked neat but I misjudged where it would sit in my kitchen and it just wouldn't work for me. I contacted Rich through their website to see if I could get the regular angled block and he sold it to me for a great price. No fuss. I would have just used my old block but these knives have a broad blade and wouldn't fit (which makes for a good knife)."

"I received these knives today and they are great. Excellent value. Unfortunately the block that came with it was damaged. I sent an email and it was answered within minutes by the CEO of the company! Not an exaggeration, within 15 minutes, my issue was handled and they're shipping me a new block. Highly recommend, and the manufacturer stands by their product."

I'm a Big Girl Now!
Pros: quality feel performance of knives 3x the price
"I now have a grown up set of knives to call my own. I just took my Chicago Cutlery to Goodwill! I grew up with a Dad who obsessively (at least I thought back then) doted on his Shun knives and would tweak if he saw a knife left unclean on the counter. He would absolutely spaz out if one was left in the sink to soak, we all knew better to put one in the dishwasher. Now that I have learned from the error of my ways and ditched my average knives that had dulled past redemption, I have bought a big girl set of knives. I know how uber expensive knives feel and handle, and these Saber knives are incredible for the price. They have great weight and balance and the blades are perfect. They got here quick (I'm still into instant gratification eventhough I am all grown up) and I am now carrying on the family tradition of instilling fear into my children's hearts if they even glance at my new knives. These are Mommy's new toys, and I'm not sharing. I also feel great about supporting a company that is located in a place near where I grew up (shout out to all the folks in Seascape!) which also has a great warranty and customer service program."

Loved at first...
"We've had these for roughly 15 months and I've loved them the entire time...very sharp and sturdy. However, just the other day, the blade of the 5" knife broke off near the base while I was cutting a slice of aged cheddar cheese! So far, the rest of the set seems to be holding up but I no longer love these knives like I used to."

My husband and I run a business where we work with a lot of high end swords, so we know a lot about a quality blade.
the construction of this set is very well put together from the full tang to the balance of the blade and handle of the chef knife.
I am very impressed with the price vs quality of these knifes, they definitely are worth more than I paid!"

Excellent set of knives

"We upgraded from a basic knife set (think it was FaberWare before). No comparison - hands down the Saber knives are superior in every way. Saber are super sharp, cut everything with ease - from meat to bread, and everything in between. A pleasure to use - and my wife approves of them, so they must be good :)"

Excellent Knives but Knife Block Wrong

"The knives themselves are fantastic! Well made and VERY sharp. My order was delivered without the included AccuSharp sharpener, but one call to the number included in the paperwork (to the OWNER of the company who answered on a Tuesday night at 7:00pm!) and that oversight was quickly resolved.
My only complaint is that the knife block is NOT the same as it is pictured on Costco's website. The way it is pictured makes sense...with the shears BEHIND the knives. Unfortunately, mine is reverse of how it is pictured and the shears are in front of the knives (not the steak knives, but all the other knives). This makes taking the knives in and out of the block very difficult as the shears block them. I don't use the shears as often as the knives -- who does? I thought I received a defective block, but was told by the owner of the company that his design had the shears in the back, but COSTCO wanted them in front! What????? If I didn't like the knives so much, I would seriously consider returning them to Costco because they are hard to remove with the location of the shears."

I was wrong. All what I want for my knives to be sharp for longer than about 5 times ussed. After 2 times in use it became like any other knives not sharp. So, why to pay big money for those knives, if I need to sharp it every time?"

Perfect value for the price

"I wouldn't consider myself to be a heavy knife user/chef but I know when knives are just cheap and hard to use. So, I was looking for a decent set of knives that wouldn't break the bank and these have been perfect. They arrived very quickly and I've used more than half of them for cooking & dining since. I've felt that they work with a lot of ease and are exactly what I was looking for. I understand that there are probably some German knives that are the "sports cars" of knives but these are more than enough for me. These knives occupy the space between $30 cheap knife sets and $400 amazing and unpronounceable brands.
I'll update this review should I run into any longevity issues but so far I'm pretty happy with these!"

Excellent knives for the price

"We've had these knives for a year now and we love them. The weight, balance, and cutting capabilities are amazing for a knife set at this price. Like any knife set, you've got to keep them sharp--use the sharpening steel that comes with the set before the knives get dull. And learn how to sharpen them: the Saber Knife website has directions on the proper angle.
One reviewer said their knives started to rust--that's not been a problem with our set and we're not the best in drying them right after washing them.
I do agree with some of the reviewers that the rotating storage block can make the knives hard to get to if stored under a kitchen cabinet. But, the open design allows me to see the knife blade, so I can select the correct one every time without having to hunt through all the knives, like I do when the blade is hidden in the more traditional knife blocks.
And I second the kudos to the Saber customer service. An additional knife I purchased was shipped the same day I ordered it."

Started off good

"I bought this set last thanksgiving. I thought it was a great price for the description. I also felt good about the customer service. The knives were sharp to start with, however even after taking a lot of care( always hand washed and quick dry), I feel that they lost the sharpness in a couple of months.
Also, I have small hands and good have used the smaller santoku, but that is not available."

"We looked for a long time before we purchased a knife set. We bought this set last year for our Christmas present to us. We were very excited. They work and feel great and the knife block was attractive on the counter (although not convenient as other customers have mentioned). In order to preserve our investment, we bought a new set of bamboo cutting boards and decided to wash and dry the knifes after every use and not put them in the dishwasher. After only 3 months of use I noticed some rust spots on the chefs knife. I thought, well, I must have done something wrong, but then more of the knifes started to rust. I'm not sure why, maybe it was just our set. Hopefully they are higher quality now. We went back to using our forschner knives (not a set) which have never rusted despite harder use. We returned the saber knifes and can't recommend them to anyone."

Good, but misleading

"I just received my knife set today and I have to say that I completely agree with other posters. I think the quality of the knives is fantastic, but I was very disappointed that the block is not completely filled up with knives since the picture implies that it is a complete set. The swiveling block is a really nice feature and i'm sure will come in handy while cooking, but since it is not completely filled up, why didn't they create a smaller block with 3 knives on each side instead of 4? This would have enabled the block to be smaller and not take up so much room on the counter. It just seems odd to have so much room wasted on the block, especially since there is also so much room left open in the middle of the block.
Also, there was no paperwork or anything else in the box. It would have been nice to have something that explained how to take care of the knives so that they last longer. Maybe some information on ordering additional knives to fill up the empty slots? Just a thought.
My block came with a crack in one of the slots. Since Costco has such a great return policy, I know it will not be difficult to get a replacement, but it is still a hassle.
All in all, it appears to be a good set of knives for the price paid, but it would have been better if the block design was smaller."

OK but.......
"The knives, shears and steel seem to be very good. What really disappointed me was the block. This can't be placed under most kitchen cabinets because the pieces must be removed by pulling them straight up. The other thing that bothers me is the fact that there are empty slots. It is implied that this set is a complete set. If that is the case, why leave empty slots?"

"After searching for a few years for high-quality, affordable kitchen knives, we purchased the 13-pc. Saber set from Costco.com based on information from the Saber website (www.saberknives.com) and on customer reviews. Not only have the knives exceeded our expectations (they’re the best kitchen knives we’ve owned), the customer service can’t be beat. Our customer service issue had to do with the loss of a few knives under strange circumstances. I had questions about replacing them and called the Saber customer service number and left a message. A few minutes later, I received a call back from Rich Menefee, the CEO of the company. He was not only great to talk to—funny, engaging, and helpful—but he resolved our problem promptly. "I have been waiting for a long time to buy new knives and am so pleased with the Saber Knife set offered by Costco. My husband and I like them so much we ordered the steak knives. Would recommend them to anyone. Not crazy about the knife holder but that didn't matter because I store my knives in a knife holder in a drawer."
