A Very Wise Purchase

Pros: great picture and sound
Cons: none so far
Model Number: DMP-BDT220CP
"At first I bought the Sony BDP-BX59 3D Blu-ray Disc Player w/ built-in Wi-Fi on sale since I was familiar with the Sony Entertainment Network with my Sony PlayStation 3 which unfortunately died. Anyway, when I setup the new Sony DVD player the Wi-Fi was inop on it and I couldn't even manually add it to my Wi-Fi router online so I exchanged it for this 3D Blu-ray disc player instead.
I was able to set it up and connect to the internet through the Wi-Fi in short order and updated the latest firmware. Blu-ray discs have exellent picture and sound with the built-in Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD decoders."

Not for Netflix

Pros: plays all dvd's fine
Cons: all but useless for netflix streaming
Model Number: Panasonic DMP-BDT220CP
"Blue Ray player works fine, but Netflix is EXTREMELY slow with either wifi or cabled to my home network. We haven't had it lose the connection but as we navigate through the selections on Netflix it may take 30 seconds to respond to a single click. I brought the Roku back into the living room for Netflix viewing. This will be returned."

superb disc playback

Model Number: Panasonic DMP-BDT220CP
"It seems as though Blu ray player manufacturers have really risked torpedoing their product ratings by adding wi-fi and internet streaming. Watching the reviews of such players must make the manufacturers cringe. Gone are the days when a blu-ray player just played discs, and now reputations have sunk. This blu ray player loads quickly, plays discs superbly well and it has a nice menu system. I have been lucky because my wi-fi and DLNA streaming have worked pretty well, including with the dreaded Netflix. This player is a steal and worth a try, especially from Costco."

Great blu-ray and DVD- no problems!

Pros: blu-ray playback is spectatular., it's pretty fast loading.
Cons: the remote isn't very intuitive., i wish there were more access on the front panel.
Model Number: Panasonic DMP-BDT220CP
"I researched the Blu-ray players on that review site (rhymes with Informer Shreveports). I also looked at many of the reviews here and on other sites that sell the BDT220CP. Everything suggested a great BluRay player with some Wifi issues. So, knowing I could wire the connection if necessary we purchased it. We have been delighted with the performance- Even some old B&W DVDs look great. Blu-Rays are spectacular! 3-D is very good (but we don't use it much). I've used it a lot with Netflix and other streaming and not had any more drops or snags in streaming than I had with our old Sony which was hardwired to the network. (It worked with our old router set-up just fine although we did update to a faster one recently which just works better). I think it meets all the accolades of the pro reviews and I've experienced none of the problems."

Wi-Fi Connectivity sketchy

Cons: wi-fi and netflix functioning.
Model Number: Panasonic DMP-BDT220CP
"Discs play OK but Wi-Fi connectivity is a real problem. After hours of discussion and fiddling around with both Panasonic and Frontier support lines (they both said it's the other guys problem), I got it working by manually putting in the IP, Subnet, Gateway, and DNS settings Frontier gave me. However it is really slow to connect and occassionally loses connection and the settings. I bought this to replace my Sony Blu-Ray after it started having problems reading disks and Wi-Fi stopped working when I went to WPA-2. Hmmmm - maybe the security settings are the issues for these Blu-Ray Wi-Fi devices! Also just purchased a Vizio 3D tv from Costco with wi-fi and Netflix and it was a snap to set up, is lightning fast to connect and NEVER has a problem with Netflix. They must have figured it out!!! Wonder if they make Blu Ray players!!!"

Great design, poor performance

Pros: design
Cons: wifi defect, software functionality
Model Number: BDT220CP
"Wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. In theory and design, it is
a great product, however like many others have pointed out the WI-FI does not stay connected. Reset requires unplugging from outlet. I purchased at the request of the consultant because the television was only wifi ready. After returning BR player, I found a wifi adapter for $30 that works perfectly for my television.

I like it

Pros: price size quality
Cons: delay in starting in order to read the disc
Model Number: DMP BDT220CP
"Several years ago I bought a blu-ray player, and it seemed to take ages to 'read the disc' and start playing, so I returned it. Decided to try again, and the Panasonic works much much faster.....tho still not as fast as an ordinary DVD. I'm really pleased with this player, but I have to admit, it is taking me a bit of time to adjust to the switch from DVD (fast forward is now search). I don't have wifi yet, so I'm not using any of that. But I think this one so far is great for the price."

WiFi won't stay connected

Pros: good blu-ray and dvd performance
Cons: unusable wifi
Model Number: DMP-BDT220CP
"I ignored the bad reviews about the Netflix problems and bought the BDT220 anyway. While setting up WiFi to the router in the same room, it dropped the connection twice, completely freezing the player, and requiring a power cord pull.
Firmware is up to date, and I tried the Netflix tricks described elsewhere.
It seemed to work fine for a few weeks, but without much WiFi use. Yesterday we were able to watch a movie on Netflix all the way through without a problem, so I decided to sign up for Vudu. 5 minutes from the end of the movie, it lost the WiFI connection.
None of the other 8 wireless devices in the house have problems connecting or staying connected.
I'll be returning the BDT220 to Costco."

Panasonic strip-mining reputation

Pros: not as large as some others
Cons: short life
"I'm having to replace my Panasonic Blu-ray player after playing 12, count 'em 12, Blu-ray discs. Reporting the problem to Panasonic brought the following response, "Often times units will play regular DVDs and not play Blu-rays and visa versa. This sometimes mean that the lens which reads the respective type of disc has gone bad. The unit will require servicing in this case. " It would be nice if the MTBF and AFR was provided by Costco"

Netflix issue

Model Number: DMP-BDT220
"This worked beautifully downloading from Netflix for about a month. Then it stopped working for 10 days, worked for one day, and stopped again. I was calling the ISP and Netflix. Then I read these reviews and knew exactly what was going on.
It has nothing to do with the firmware--you can't download movies without updating the firmware. In fact, if you want to download a movie and there's a firmware update, you must wait 10-15 minutes for the update to complete. I have the current firmware.
I'm planning to return it to Costco."

For the Negative Reviewers....

"The Netflix issue with the Panasonic Blu-ray players isn't anything new, it has been an issue on previous models however Panasonic has addressed those problems fairly quickly in the form of FIRMWARE updates. I suspect the two negative reviews are from people who more than likely didn't update their firmware because from the time the product is made, to the time someone buys it in a store, there potentially could be two or more firmware updates already available. Also, make sure your Blu-ray player isn't very far from your wireless router, as the built-in WiFi adapter isn't the greatest one produced but it does the job. My 2011 model had the Netflix issue but a firmware update fixed it just fine and it works perfectly. Panasonic Blu-ray players are some of the best units on the market, but like any electronic device, they aren't flawless, so always make sure you update your firmware before you do anything else."

do not buy for netflix

Pros: great looking player price hdmi cable included
Cons: won't hold a connection for netflix
Model Number: DMP--BDT220CP
"I purchased this player because everything I own is Panasonic. Bad Choice. Blueray works fine. Netflix takes forever to load, had it a week and never got to watch a movie all the way through, it always drops the connection. I went to netfix on my pc and tried all their fixes but no luck. The only way I could get it to work was unplug it and plug it back in basically resetting it. When it dropped the connection the remote would sometimes freeze. sometimes it would drop the connection five or six times in twenty minutes. Returned to costco and bought the sony, we will see if it works better. I can't believe panasonic would put something like this on the shelf. Cnet reviews said it was their top pick for 2012, they must have gotten a better playe than I did.r."

Problems with Netflix and the Internet

Pros: blue ray & dvds work fine
Cons: netflix and the internet features don't work
Model Number: DMP-BDT220
"As a Blue-ray or DVD player, this unit is fine. It seems to do everything a Blue-ray player should do. Pictures are great on my 1080p tv. Load times are fast. There is even an Android or IOS remote control app you can download for free.
My problem and low score is for its ability to play Netflix and poor wireless performance. All wireless features of this player are s l o w and it drops the internet connection all the time. If you plan to watch Netflix, I have to say pass on this one and buy a different player.
Before I describe my Netflix problems, you should know that I have a current technology wireless network in my house with all the latest firmware installed in my router. My router is a Linksys E3000 dual band wireles N router. I also have a ROKU box that streams Netflix wirelessly and quickly with absolutely no problems. My Panasonic Blue-ray player says it has a full strength connection to my router. In the little over a month I have owned this machine, I have installed two Panasonic firmware updates.
Here are the problems with Netflix. (Yes, this is a Panasonic issue not a Netflix issue) Netflix takes a long time to load, perhaps 30 seconds or more. You can litterally get up, go to the kitchen to get a drink and come back before you ever get to Netflix. It will work fine for a week, then all of a sudden, I'll start getting a "We're having trouble playing this title right now." errors right in the middle of the movie. This happens because the player dropped the internet connection. My only recourse is to turn the played off and back on again - or go upstairs and watch it on ROKU where the internet stays connected! Most recently Netflix has refused to load at all. I've now had to reset the player and redo all the initial settings. Very frustrating!! It seems like bad reviews like mine exist throughout the internet. If you don't believe me, you should try going to the Panasonic site and read reviews there. They echo all the same problems I'm having.
UPDATE... The reset had no effect. I just made it through half a Netflix movie and it dropped the internet again!! There is no excuse for a piece of electronics to be this buggy! Buy a different model."
