Good but a little quirky

Pros: decent battery life, "instant on", usb power port on the power supply
Cons: heavy, switch from built-in graphics to radeon needs work, toouchpad is too large.
Model Number: ENVY 14-2136NR
"The HP Envy 14 is a solid, well-built laptop. Overall I'm pleased with the unit.
First, the bad -
Weight - this laptop is on the heavy side for a 14" screen. That doesn't bother me as I think it helps with the solid feel, but it might bother others. The touch pad is both very large and very sensitive. The first few days with it were frustrating, to say the least. However, after adjusting the sensitivity in the Control Panel and training myself to place my right hand differently I no longer have problems with the touch pad. The final negative is the switchable graphics. In theory this is great. In practice, sometimes things don't make the switch to the Radeon chip very well. In one particular game on a social networking site, the scroll bars didn't work correctly. I solved the problem by forcing the browser to use the on-board graphics instead of the Radeon. I have not had this problem with any other software.
The good -
Instant on. When you close the lid, the Envy goes into sleep mode. when you raise the lid it wakes back up - without pressing anything else. It's ready to use in just a couple of seconds after opening the screen. I'm sure other laptops do this as well, but this is the first one that I have used with this feature, and I really like it. I used to prefer to hibernate my laptops, but with the Envy I like the sleep option better. And despite the problem I noted above, I like the switchable graphics. You get the efficiency of the Intel graphics for mundane tasks, and the power of the Radeon when you need it - like for games. Best of all, the Envy will choose the appropriate chip to use based on the demands of the program you are running. And If you're not happy with its choice you can alter it yourself. Nice!

An Excellent Desktop Replacement.

Pros: intel core i5-2430m processor, 7200 rpm hard drive, backlit keyboard, 1gb switchable graphics card, usb 3.0, 6gb ddr3 ram
Cons: nothing negative so far
Model Number: HP ENVY 14-2136NR Laptop
"I recently purchased an HP ENVY 14-2136NR Laptop from Costco.com and it offers everything I was looking for in a system to serve as a backup for my desktop development system. It has an Intel Core i5-2430M Processor, 6GB ofDDR3 SDRAM, a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive (most laptops come with a slower 5400RPM hard drive), a Slot-Loading SuperMulti DVD burner, a 14.5-inch diagonal HD LED-backlit Display, 1GB Radeon HD 6630 switchable graphics , 802.11a/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth, a full-size island-style backlit keyboard, and a USB 3.0 port. I have had the system for only a few days but it has exceeded my expectations so far. It is an excellent desktop replacement."

Nice but Not for Me

Pros: backlit screen
Cons: weighs too much
Model Number: ENVY 14-2136NR
"I read the reviews prior to purchase. It seems that many imported from the HP website are for a tower and not a notebook.
My old Dell is literally falling apart, so I decided to look for a new notebook. I have three requirements that are deal breakers. It has to fit comfortable on an airplane drop down tray, the screen needs to be 14 inches or less and the keyboard needs to be backlit.
I was not sure about the size of this one when I ordered it, but it was the only one with a backlit screen in this size. I figured I would give it a try.
After unpacking, I noted that it was much bigger than my 13 inch Dell and weighed more.
It looked nice. I liked the feel of the keyboard, but it was just too big for my needs. I did not even turn it on. I just packed it up and took it back to Costco."

Great computer

Pros: button to turn on/off touch pad, fast!, great audio (from beats audio), quiet fan, does not overheat
Cons: optical drive is noisy
"I am very pleased with the HP Envy. It is really fast, has a ton of memory, and nicely designed and laid out.
I wouldn't call it a light weight computer (it weights close to 6 lbs.) but it's not overly heavy and it feels sturdy.
The battery life is decent. If your running a lot of programs or games then you'll probably only get 2 hours tops, but using Word or simply the internet you can easily get 3 hours plus!
